My current relationship with reading isn't really exciting. I'm not much of a fan of reading in my leisure time, but I do dabble in it from time to time. I can't say I have any negative associations with reading; most are very positive. As for the types of things I read, they are very diverse, from random articles to non-fiction books. I usually use random websites to find articles that catch my eye, either things related to my major or random things happening around the world. Some of the most interesting things I've read are related to the use of efficient power usage. This is a very important and interesting topic to me since it also correlates to my major. Which means that for the most part, I get sidetracked with this topic when looking for my next read, that's not to say I don't read other things like manga, which I also really enjoy.

As for my current relationship with writing, I can't say it's very positive. I don't enjoy writing as much as I would say I like reading just due to my creativity. I've ranged from different genres of writing, ranging from fictional to informational texts, but none have hooked me into wanting to identify as a writer. As for tools, I don't use anything crazy, either your standard pen and paper, or a simple Google Doc sheet where I just jot down ideas that either turn into a. small personal project or stay as drafts. But overall, writing isn't much of an enjoyment for me, but I can see its appeal as a form of expression, which is very interesting.

I do not have a very positive relationship with reading. I believe the negative association I have with reading comes from the material that was covered in high school. In my senior year of high school, we read a lot of fiction, which I am not particularly a fan of. Additionally, I found myself to struggle when reading older works, such as those by Shakespeare. I enjoy reading non-fiction and accounts of real-life events. I like to read online news articles to stay up to date on current events. Also, I like to read about crime, whether it be cold cases or recent murders. One case that has caught my interest is the murders of the college students in Idaho, so I have been reading a lot about the investigation and Bryan Kohberger. The tools I use are news websites, as well as social media platform like Instagram and X.

I feel like I definitely have a more positive relationship with writing than with reading. While I don't write for fun or as a hobby as many might do, I am a strong writer when it comes to essays and assignments where I am given a prompt. I remember doing especially well in the synthesis essay component of the AP English Language exam. The tools that I use to succeed in writing are Google Docs and a few sources that I can research before writing. I also find it useful to have a dictionary and/or thesaurus handy to find different words.

Reading now is a very joyful thing for me, and I think the relationship between reading and me is positive. It is true that before high school, I disliked reading. I thought reading was totally a waste of time, and I hoped to spend more time watching TV shows. In addition, at that time, I always read textbooks that were boring for me. However, when I came to high school, I first read the novel Harry Potter with my classmates. The attractive plots helped me first feel the happiness of reading. Until now, I still like reading novels and online articles. I also like to read something that is emotionally depth and has social meanings. This will help me see the world in more different perspectives. When I read, I feel relaxed because during the reading time, I can enter a different world and feel a different life. I usually read by kindle and iPad. It is convenient for me to read everywhere.

Opposite to reading, when I was a child, I enjoyed writing very much. I thought writing was interesting, and I could write anything I like. I enjoyed creating my own world by writing. However, when I was in middle school, I started to write academic writing. This was the beginning that I hated writing. Now, with no doubt, the relationship between writing and me is negative. I usually write academic writing now, and I always receive feedback like "unclear" and " too long" which reduces my confidence. I usually use Grammarly to write because this app helps improve my sentences and correct my wrong spelling. It is important for me to do writing assignments.

Right now, my relationship with reading is complicated. On one hand, I love the feeling of getting lost in a good story, especially fiction. But ever since starting college, reading has started to feel more like work than pleasure. I find myself skimming through articles just to find the main point, instead of enjoying the full text. Most of my reading now is for assignments, not for fun. I usually read on my laptop or phone, using apps like Perusall or Google Docs. Occasionally, I still try to read novels on Kindle or physical books before bed, but I often get distracted or too tired.

Writing, for me, feels a little more personal. I actually enjoy writing when I get to express my own thoughts, like in journals or personal reflections. But academic writing stresses me out. I worry about structure, grammar, and whether my ideas sound “smart enough.” I use tools like Google Docs, Grammarly, and sometimes even AI tools to brainstorm or get started when I feel stuck. I want to feel more confident in writing and stop seeing it as something I need to “get right” the first time. My goal this quarter is to learn to trust my writing process and enjoy it more.

My relationship with reading is quite varied, often shifting depending on the material. While I enjoy diving into comics and manga for leisure, and can generally manage articles or textbooks for specific information, I find significant difficulty when it comes to reading poetry or older English literature. The primary reason for this struggle lies in their distinctive structures and vocabulary, which often feel "weird" and don't immediately make sense to me compared to contemporary writing. For casual reading, I frequently use websites and social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.

When it comes to writing, I must admit I'm generally not a fan. This sentiment is largely amplified by my experience as an international student, with English being my third language. I often find myself grappling with a noticeable lack of vocabulary, frequently relying on Google Translate to find the precise words I intend to convey, which can sometimes result in my grammar feeling "weird" or unnatural. Beyond assignments required for my classes, I rarely engage in writing, even for tasks like writing essays, articles, or analysis for a science project, which feel distinct from the formal academic writing expected in a course like this. For my writing tasks, my go-to tools are Google Docs for drafting, Google Translate for vocabulary assistance, and Grammarly for grammar checks.

My experience with reading has always been mixed. I enjoy reading when I get to choose what book to read, usually fictional books. I can't say my association with reading is positive but I do enjoy it when it's not assigned to me in class. I am fond of romance novels, mythology, gothic horror, and memoirs. I usually find the physical book on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble because I enjoy the physical copy rather than my laptop or phone. Some that I have read are "The Picture of Dorian Gray," "Flipped," "My Body," and "The Summer I Turned Pretty," plus some others in the past. The reason why I have a mixed relationship with reading is because I don't enjoy assigned readings received in class and find it hard to grasp the main idea without getting distracted. Overall, I think reading is an important practice for everyone and I want to overcome my negative association with assigned readings because I know they can deepen my understandings and help me grow as a writer.

Writing is not my strong suit and I have never particularly enjoyed it. My struggles with writing has led to a negative association with the process. Throughout high school and my first year of college, I have encountered various forms of writing, each with its own distinct and often complex structure. The one I have found most difficult to grasp is the academic writing expected at the university level because it challenged the habits I formed in high school. Some tools I tend to use throughout my writing process are Google Docs, Grammarly, and a Thesaurus. Grammarly helps me check grammar errors and identify areas where I can provide more clarity in my writing. A thesaurus helps me expand my vocabulary while still ensuring I can convey my ideas appropriately. Overall, I just have never found enjoyment in writing because my struggles have kept me from enjoying the process.

Right now, my relationship with reading is in progress. I know it’s very important to have good reading skills, especially since we are all in college, and can definitely help in future careers. I’m not a big reader growing up, I prefer to watch movies. But when I read the book and watch the movie afterward, I feel really connected because movies can be a better point of view to help me understand the book. My favorite type of books to read is fiction, and I’m currently not reading any books right now, but I’m planning to read the Hunger Games Series. I’ll say a tool is used in movies since it helps me understand better.

I’m not great with writing due to my lack of reading, but I do enjoy writing sometimes when I find the topic interesting. I don’t write in my free time, so every time I write something, it’s usually school related or an assignment. A tool I use is grammarly and books that are related to the assignment. I’m still figuring out more tools to help me with my writing and I’m looking forward to this class to improve my writing skills.

Right now, my relationship with reading is a mix of passion and frustration. I love reading since I'm a child, but only in my native language. There’s something comforting about diving into stories, news, or even social media posts without struggling to understand every word. I enjoy novels, especially fantasy and slice-of-life genres, where I can immerse into q imaginative worlds. I also read a lot of online articles and forums about topics I’m curious about, like gaming or travel. However, when it comes to reading in academic English, it’s still a challenge for me. Even though I’m improving, long articles in English is still overwhelming. I use tools like Google Translate for tricky words, but I wish I could read English as effortlessly as I do in my native tongue.

Writing is interesting and I enjoy it. However have the same problem in reading, only when it’s creative, like short stories or personal journal entries. I like crafting characters, building small worlds, or just jotting down my sudden thoughts. It feels freeing, like I’m playing with words instead of following strict rules. Academic essay is a different story andmust be improved. Essays with citations, formal structure, and complex arguments make me nervous. I concern about making mistakes or not sounding "smart enough." For creative writing, I use simple tools like Google or notes. But when it comes to academic work, I feel like I need a whole toolkit: Grammarly, Ginger, DeepL, and multiple AI to improve my writing.

I mostly read fiction especially manga and graphic novels because I enjoy the mix of visuals and storytelling. It’s a great way to unwind and escape into different worlds. I also like reading fan translations when the official ones aren’t out yet.

Writing:
My relationship with writing is a little more complicated. I try to do my best, but it doesn’t come as naturally or feel as enjoyable as reading. I always found it to be very boring. it always felt like a chore and a burden when ever we had writing assignments in school. I think this was partly due to the fact that i felt as if i was never good at writing so i just kept pushing it off to the side. The only things i really liked to write were anything about real world problems and things that could be researched. i loved being able to use other sources such as AI and Grammarly to see what i could improve on in my writing, but one thing i hated was typing and that i much rather prefer just writing with a pen and paper i feel as if i am very slow at typing and find myself messing up way to often . All in all i don't like writing a whole lot and don't really see how people can like it but I'm willing to have my mind changed

But i was a naughty child who didn’t like to follow parents instructions. I still got negative feelings for reading. But recently, I’m so crazy about reading some scientific novels. Some times I’ll use google to help me understand some specific words since I really can’t understand what it means there.

My writing are mostly done while doing up assignments or writing emails. Actually i was positive at writing since when I took my first tofel test, I scored 27 at composition which is the highest score of all. I usually email my friend some interesting thing I’ve met or done in recent life since we can’t see each other during the summer vacation. I sometimes use dictionary when I really can’t find a word to describe it.

Although my current relationship with reading has gone stale, I love reading; I really do. It is an immersive experience, where you can place yourselves in the stories among the author's pen. I have loved reading all my life, especially since reading Harry Potter in elementary school. There is nothing that beats some quiet time, a long novel, and a cold drink. I remember being in middle school, borrowing 20 ish novels from the local library, and going past my bed time reading stories of heroes from different tales. As a kid, I loved reading horror and science fictions, but even today, I still see myself going back to some of the same books. Nowadays, I read more dystopian fiction, partially as it is the most popular genre among the authors I like to follow, but also because it gives me a whole optimistic vibe about how I view the real world. I also have found myself on some websites just reading more information on games that I play. I have found 3 tools very useful in my journey reading books. My brain, to comprehend the material. A pen/highlighter to mark anything I might want to come back to. Lastly, sticky notes to contain useful information. As shown above, I have a great relationship with reading.

I have a more complex relationship with writing. It is something that definitely requires a lot more refining than just simple reading. Being able to write proficiently, means being able to get all my points and thoughts written in a way where others could understand it the same way I would. A good writer should be able to communicate freely, and I still find myself struggling at doing so. Even as my writing my seem a bit languishing, I would say I have a relatively decent relationship with writing. It is something I often come back to work on, as I do work on a lot of projects and research papers to help around with other friends. I feel like the best tool to use is just a blank canvas of any sort, whether it be a piece of white paper, or a blank page on a tablet. I like to use this big blank space as a place to let my ideas run on, not having to worry about my how to structure things. After that, I just have to find the right ways to piece everything together. Although my relationship with writing is decent, I am still finding ways to improve on writing proficiently.

My relationship with reading right now is positive. I like to read about geopolitics and modern medicinal developments. I mainly read on the internet. For example, I have been catching up on developments on oncolytic viruses used for cancer treatment and ergonomic aids, or middle east conflicts and controversies or current news and government policies. One fun (or rather not fun) fact is that I get engrossed in these topics and this takes up a chunk of my study time! I also like to read recipes as I'm interested in cooking. Sometimes, I also read about how people of different cultures exist around the world and how they invite guests to their home countries. I like to create my own stories using prompts and read them on the AI interface. I mainly use highlighter, audio, and annotating tools.

My relationship with writing is also positive, I interact with friends on discord chatting or commenting. I use chat interfaces and word documents mainly for typing. My favorite font style is Century Gothic for creative writing or Times New Roman for formal documents. My typing style is slow, but I try to do a thorough job using vivid and explicit ideas. I also hand-write logs in my home diary about how I spent my day, especially on the weekends. However, I will admit that I'm not very used to writing by hand as typing has taken precedence. One of my favorite writing tools is the microphone/ talk button, where I can talk out my ideas and the computer does the typing! Currently, I’m typing for my English UWP course and I'm enjoying it! I loved this padlet interface and the humorous GIF multimedia images! Way to Go!

My experience with reading is quite boring and interesting. I never really enjoyed reading ever since I was little, until I found manhwas, which are like comics. They contain both visuals and words, and I enjoy reading them to unwind from a day of constant studying. I also started getting into webnovels and found some interesting ones that I might indulge in the future, too. A reason why I didn't really get into reading could also have been due to the language barrier I had growing up, and I had a harder time understanding English than most. Which is why I was quite reluctant to try reading, because why would I find joy in something I struggled with? But when I got into middle school and high school, it felt as if I didn't read, I would be left behind. So, I decided to start reading regular books, which were quite boring and long, until I found comics, which felt more like I was watching a fight scene than reading, but I was reading every single word on those pages, and this helped me improve my vocabulary. And now I am here reading manhwa and just enjoying my time, but reading articles or research papers most definitely isn't my forte.

Now, about writing, I would say that writing was much more of easier for me to get into, but when it came to the growth process and development of my vocabulary to create complex sentences while offering the reader an enjoyable read, it was quite hard. I don't think that writing is super hard, but I don't think it is easy when it comes to how to format the sentences in ways that aren't just the self-imposed rules we are so used to from high school, compared to college. I enjoy writing, depending on the topic and what I am allowed to write about. I can't deny that I strayed away from the format writing and went towards an unorthodox way of writing and expressing my personal feelings about a topic while trying to give valid reasoning to not undermine the integrity of my adversarial work. Overall, I work better on writing in comparison to reading because I would rather write something than read something, and writing just comes more naturally to me than reading.

Reading and Writing: Weakness and Strength

1. Currently I would say my relationship with reading is a bit shaky. I wouldn't say I like reading. However, that would be biased since most things I read are assigned readings and things of that sort. When I do find something that peaks my interest I can say I like reading. That is however on rare occasions. The main reason I dislike reading is because I’m not that great at it. I have struggled with reading since I can remember. I mostly struggle with heavy texts. Not only getting through them, which in itself is a mission, but understanding them as well. As I said before the texts I can usually get through are those that peak my interest. I am most interested in works within the genre of horror. I watch a lot of horror films and enjoy them so I like to read horror as well. When I do read I find it more engaging having a physical copy of the book.

2. In terms of writing I find it easier to write than to read. I would say my relationship with writing is more positive. In my first year I’ve taken some general education classes where I had big writing assignments. On these assignments I scored like a B and higher. However I am still trying to get rid of old habits with my writing style. I’m hoping to do that in this class. The most I have written about is animals and their behavior. I have also written about ancient historical sites and horror film analysis in my GE courses. The tool I use most is google docs. In my opinion it is very easy to navigate and upload files using it. Although I do use other tools when required.

1. I have always loved reading. For me, reading is not only a way to relax, but also a portal to another world. Now my relationship with reading is positive and intimate - as natural as drinking water every day. I especially like doomsday novels, such as "Station Eleven". The loneliness and struggle of human nature after the collapse of the world always make me think a lot. I often read several chapters in one go, especially at night, turning off the lights and leaving only a small desk lamp. Watching those characters struggle to survive in the doomsday makes me feel a wonderful sense of resonance. In addition, I also love to read the Sherlock Holmes series. The process of uncovering the truth step by step fascinates me. Now I read books online most of the time, browsing the electronic version on my mobile phone or computer, and occasionally make some marks in the reading app to collect the sentences that impressed me.

2. Writing is even more of a part of life for me. I started writing horror mystery novels more than ten years ago, and I have written many stories and fragments so far. Every time I start writing, I will think about the character's personality and story background in advance, and then slowly build the puzzle structure. I like to write about scenes that seem calm but actually contain clues, such as an empty room with curtains fluttering gently, but no one knows that it is because there is an unread letter hidden under the door. I often write in Word or Google Docs. Sometimes when inspiration comes, I will directly type a few lines in the memo on my phone, for fear that I will forget it in the next second. I will also reread what I have written, revise the sentences, and adjust the rhythm. Although the process takes a lot of time, it is really satisfying to see a story slowly take shape.

Since I am a student majored in science, I do not have too much interest in reading. My scientific brain always fails to make me remain silence for a long time, so I do not like to read some literary articles like prose or poem. However, some science fictions attract me a lot. What impressed me the most was a book named The Three-Body Problem, which is written by Cixin Liu. This book tells a story about people talking to the aliens that in a higher dimension. I was attracted by the setting of the novel and the imagination of the writer. In my spare time, I usually read books via an app called Fanqie, which include plenty of e-books.

To be honest, my relationship with writing is even worse than reading. I only know a little thing about writing and I am not interested in it. For me, the most difficult thing is the initial paragraph. As the saying goes, "It is the first step that costs troublesome." I always fail to have a clear mind about wha to write at the beginning. Gradually, I started to be afraid of writing, generating the negative associations with writing. What I write is just some homework and assigned papers, and I never did the writing practice before. While writing, I never use AI tools to help me, because they cannot give me what I want. The only tool I use is the online dictionary, which can give me some words that I do not know.

My relationship with reading as of right now is on the negative side as I do not really read that much. The most that I read, or the only “book” that I read on a daily basis is the playbook for football. When I was little I would read a lot more for as I had book reports and essays that I would have to use a book for, but as of now the only pieces that I read may be little articles from time to time about different news events or sports events. I’ll use tools such as sports apps to read any articles on updated news for football or I’ll use websites when I am looking up a news event that I may see and want to learn more about. However, I do not think I have read a book since my junior year of high school and have not voluntarily read a book since elementary school.

My relationship with writing is somewhat the same as my relationship with reading. I do tend to write more and my classes last quarter and in the winter quarter required me to write quite a bit, but it is not as enjoyable or easy for me like reading is. Writing is more of a slow process for me as I have to really think about what to write and how I am going to do it. I’ve wrote many different types of essays such as informational, persuasive, and narrative, and have done many school projects that require writing like a news article. Tools that I use to write can be as basic as a pen and paper or apps such as google docs or canvas to create essays and writing pieces.

My relationship with reading as of right now is not the best. Picking up a book is always a second thought, but I never choose to do it. I always find it difficult to stick to reading or find something I am interested in. During the school year, I would do the reading required, but found myself having to re-read what I had just read, or couldn't focus on it. I would say I have a more negative association with reading. I'm not too sure why. I've heard a lot of friends of mine say that an easy way to get into reading would be to listen to audiobooks. I can see how that may help, but I also do think I would not be able to focus on what the reader is saying. I would like to read more or find topics I would be interested in. I just think there are a lot of choices, and I wouldn't know where to start. But I am always open to suggestions and to bettering my relationship with reading.

On the other hand, my relationship with writing is much better. When a topic of interest is presented for me to write, I can be passionate and inspired by what my next sentence will be. I sometimes find myself doing a run-on sentence and not knowing where to end. Or trying to connect two sentences can also be difficult for me. But for the most part, I always try to get feedback from others to hopefully improve my writing. I connect writing to a more positive association. I find it easier to write what I think or feel. Even though in high school my relationship with both reading and writing wasn't that good, I still always enjoyed writing. But I won't lie, sometimes when I write something I'm not too interested in, it can feel like I am writing just to write or to just get it done with. But for the most part, my relationship with writing is stronger and more positive than reading. I know I can always use improvement in my writing, and I am willing to get feedback and criticism to make me a stronger writer.

It’s been a while since I last engaged in long-form reading, especially in this fast-paced digital age. It is difficult to settle down and immerse ourselves in readings. My interest in reading largely depends on the genre. For instance, if the content is related to technology or science fiction, I’m more likely to stay engaged and finish it. However, if the text is about literature, I might find it somewhat obscure and struggle to complete it. Since English is not my first language, I often rely on translation tools to aid my understanding to the text.

Compared to reading, I do much more writing, which is largely due to university course requirements. Yet, I have never really developed an interest in writing and often see it as a burden, which easily feel under pressure when I have to write. Just like with reading, I frequently use translation apps and Grammarly to assist me since I’m not yet able to write in English as fluently as in my native language. Improving this is one of the key goals I hope to achieve through this course.

In this way, I do have a negative relationship with reading. But, I am very interested in Scientific fictions. I think these kinds of books are really amazing and some technology products are good to concentrate. Actually, I think these kind of books can satisfy my imagination . For example, I really want to know what is time and how to use time? So, I found the ''Interstellar ''. This book tells a story about the time's meaning of people, which shocked me a very long time. What's more, I always read these Scientific fictions on bookstore or some online reading apps. These tools can provide me a lot of choices and I can choose what I want.

As for now, my relationship with writing is much better than reading. In fact, I always write a lot of tasks or sentences in my high-school. As this time, I found that I am interested in writing some things after I read some articles or watch movies especially on Scientific fictions cause I think writing can express what I think and ideas. This is really comfortable. But I always have some problems when I writing things. For example, I can't always use right words to express and I have some problems on my grammar. One of the hardest problem is I always don't know how to write more complete. I don't often use AI to help me writing cause I want to explore new ideas by myself after thinking and sometimes they always give me wrong directions. The only tools I use is the google dictionary . First, I can use it to search more accurate words. Second, I can know my grammar's problems.

Honestly, my relationship with reading is kind of all over the place. I want to be someone who just chills with a book for hours, but that’s not really me right now. I get distracted easily, especially if I’m reading something dense or assigned for class. My brain just checks out. But if it’s an article I chose, like something about psychology or a random deep dive online, I’ll totally get into it. I usually read on my phone, and I like using apps like Pocket to save stuff for later.

Writing is a little better. I wouldn’t say I love it, but I don’t dread it either. I mostly write for school essays, reflections, posts like this and I use Google Docs for everything. It’s super convenient. I also use Grammarly when I’m stuck or just want to double-check stuff. Writing helps me think through things, even if I don’t always know what I want to say at first. So yeah—it's a work in progress, but I’m getting there.

I'm a good friend with writing. Not only because philosophy requires huge amount of writing works, but also because I'm person who loves to think. I would think of anything that happened in my life; The scope of my thinking sometimes is big enough to contain an opposite side of a theory, sometimes is tiny enough to contain my emotion and behavior of others. I usually write my diary in my laptop after three or four months, sometimes the time between one and the next diary is even longer. Unlike others, people who write diary tend to put interested events that happened today on their paper. But in terms of me, I tend to put a long long diary, filling with bunch of thoughts and reflection of my previous life in my laptop. Sometimes one diary could have 800 words. This is also a reason why I chose this kind of title. I want to figure out the whole logic behind events and behavior of people in my life. I try to learn something new from them. When I write, I have to make sure that every single sentence is making sense(is logical) in order to let me have a view of what's going on with everything and get to know my lifeline better. Even that sometimes I have to speak this sentence out loudly to make sure that its logic is crystal clear enough for me to put in my diary. I would like to say this because I consider it as a useful tool and warning for my writing.

I have almost the same association with reading. I love reading novel and fiction. Not because it's exciting and attractive, but the usage of language attract me the most. I just picked up my reading half year ago, using some novel app on my phone. Before that, I'm not quite a person who will read everyday. Language is a thing that is complicated. Chinese Mandarin, my mother language, contains a huge background of its culture. Taking ancient poetry as an example. A few 5 words would explain who, and what happened in this poetry. The power of words in reading gives me opportunity to empathize the emotion with authors.

My personal relationship with reading and writing

1. My relationship with reading right now I'd say that I mostly have positive associations when it comes to that part of the English reading and writing aspect of things. Like the main things that I read would be comics, manga, and even just a fictional book here and there. Nonfiction to me can be pretty cool too or just something educational or scholarly can grab my interest if it's been something that's been on my mind beforehand that happens to resurface in the piece that I'm taking in. The tools I've used for reading would be to just use bookmarks highlighting when it comes to the scholarly things.

2. Now with writing on the other hand I would say that it can be 50/50 for sometimes I'm messing with it other times it just doesn't hit me like others would when they get into it. I honestly don't remember the last good time I ever really finished writing something with my heart and soul that I felt was good for others to take in at the end of the day, maybe elementary or middle school was the last when I felt proud of that fact of what I did was acceptable to be turned in and graded for the effort I put in it. I guess the best things I wrote were more modern fantasy or some sort of adventure type of story that I really liked for a while to write just that sort of mindset I had in that genre of writing.

My relationship with reading is very positive right now. It is one of my favorite passing time hobbies, during summer or break, I love just curling up in a comfy cozy spot with a book, it's just my typa vibe. I enjoy reading when it's something I choose, like novels especially mysterious ones, but I'll read any book recommended to me to see what the hype is about. I'm not into reading long boring article, I don't really know who is.

2. My relationship with writing is neutral. I'd say I'm an okay writer, I only write when I have to like for assignments, so it feels more like a chore than something enjoyable. I don't have a negative view on it though, since my writing usually turns out to be fine and it is something that I don't dread it. I only write what I have to write so in a sense just answering prompts, discussions post and essays.

1. Reading is still closely related to me. Usually, reading is one of my main forms of entertainment. I really enjoy the pleasure that reading different novels brings me. When I'm a reader writing a novel, I feel like I'm experiencing the stories of these main characters in different worlds - whether it's about growth, adventure, or love. Many times, when I'm bored, I open some reading apps or websites on my phone, such as Tomato, which is a Chinese novel software. On this software, you can find hundreds or even thousands of different novels. They are usually very interesting, and some are also very funny. I often download many novels before boarding a plane so that I won't be bored on the flight. To be honest, sometimes I keep reading a book because it's so interesting and I want to finish it, but this usually happens when it's already dawn.

2. But to be honest, my relationship with writing is quite poor. I'm not someone who really enjoys writing. The reason is simple - I'm not very good at it. Usually, I don't like doing things that I'm not good at in my spare time. For me, writing is more of a tool. Sometimes, writing can bring me some pleasure when I really like the topic. I have many wonderful ideas and I want to put them all into my article. Usually, at such times, I can't stop myself and keep adding things to my article until I realize that I've written too many irrelevant things because my thinking might be too scattered.

I do not currently have the strongest relationship with reading. I used to read a lot every day, but since I have less free time and would rather spend more time on other things I enjoy, I haven't read for fun in a long while. I obviously still read for classes im taking, but most of the time it isn't enjoyable and feels like a chore since it usually isn't something I am interested in.

My relationship with writing is somewhat similar to my relationship with reading. I used to write for fun a long time ago, but ended up stopping and dropped it for other hobbies. Now, I only write for essays or projects, which is still different than writing for fun in the first place. Nowadays, I have a negative association with writing because it is usually out of obligation for a class assignment.

Learning to love reading (thanks to Ginsberg)

My relationship with reading changed a lot during my first year of college. In high school, I didn’t really enjoy reading—most of the time I was reading for exams, and I couldn’t connect with the books. But this year, I discovered a new side of literature. I started reading poetry by Allen Ginsberg and other Beat Generation writers, and for the first time, I felt like the words really spoke to me. Their poems are full of emotion, rebellion, and honesty, and they made me realize that reading can be personal and powerful. Now I often read poems and reflective essays in my free time. I use my phone or laptop to read most of the time, and sometimes I take notes in a small notebook if a line really inspires me.

My relationship with writing is still developing. I enjoy creative writing, especially when I’m expressing my own emotions or thoughts. Sometimes I write short poems or journal entries when I feel overwhelmed. However, academic writing is more difficult for me. I worry about structure, grammar, and whether my ideas make sense. I usually write on Google Docs, and sometimes I use Grammarly or ChatGPT to help me with sentence flow or small grammar problems. Even though I still feel unsure sometimes, I’m learning to use writing as a way to understand myself better. I hope by the end of this course, I can feel more confident sharing my work with others.
