What we Learned (8)

My partner and I learned many things about this camp such as the population, where it was located, when it was opened, and when it got closed. The Japanese relocation center that we learned about was called the Jerome War Relocation Center, Arkansas. This camp was located in southeast of Arkansas in Chicot and Drew counties. When we found the population, we learned that at one point the camp had as many as 8,497 Japanese inmates but after it was closed it was turned into a holding camp for German prisoners of war. The consturction of this relocation center began on July 15th of 1942 but being the last of ten camps to open it ended up opening on October 6th of 1942. This camp would end up closing three years later, 1945, on November 30th. Before learning about this particular camp, we learned that the reason why all of the Japanese people that were in America were put in relocation centers because during World War II Japanese soldiers bombed Pearl Harbor so the government put the Japanese people in the relocation centers because they were afraid that the other Japanese people that weren't solider may help the soldiers plot against the Americans against the Americans or that they were soldiers undercover. This was a great project for learning about World War II and about all of the struggles that the Japanese people had to deal with.
