How does sleep deprivation influence our memory? What brain structures are involved?
As the author claims, you can't absorb new memories without enough sleep, cause the memory circuits of the brain essentially become waterlogged. He also said that the hippocampus, one of the most important parts of the brain in a memory process, loses its activity cause of lack of sleep.

Is it possible to help people with dementia by improving their quality of sleep? If so, how?
We cannot answer it yet cause It is only a suggestion. The author's idea is to implement direct current brain stimulation, which means inserting a small amount of voltage into the brain while sleeping. It possibly can amplify the size of deep-sleep brain waves and almost double the amount of memory benefit that is getting from sleep.

What is daylight saving time? Does it have any impact on our health?
Daylight saving time is a global experiment, in which people lose or get one hour of sleep. As can be seen from it, losing one hour of sleep leads to a subsequent 24-percent increase in heart attacks that following day. Otherwise, gaining an hour of sleep leads to a 21-percent reduction in heart attacks. And there are the same statistics for car crashes, road traffic accidents, even suicide rates.

Can a lack of sleep lead to immune deficiency? If so, how? Why is it so concerning?
The author affirmed that immune cell activity directly depends on the amount of sleep. There was an experiment that showed that even restriction to four hours of sleep for one single night can lead to a reduction in immune cell activity for 70 percent. That is so concerning cause the risk of the development of numerous forms of cancer increases dramatically.

Can a lack of sleep affect genetic code?
What I found the most surprising is that a lack of sleep will even erode the very fabric of biological life itself, the DNA genetic code. In the study, they limited people to six hours of sleep a night for one week, and then they measured the change in their gene activity. And there were two critical findings. First, a sizable and significant 711 genes were distorted in their activity, caused by a lack of sleep. The second result was that about half of those genes, associated with the promotion of tumors and stress, were actually increased in their activity. The other, half associated with your immune system, were decreased.

What does the following sentence mean? "Sleep loss will leak down into every nook and cranny of your physiology"
Sleep deprivation influences the fundamental part of the human body - genes. We might say that it destroys us from the inside, cause when it changes genes, it changes us entirely.

What are the tips for good sleep?
There is the list that the author has mentioned. The first is regularity which will anchor the sleep and improve the quantity and the quality of that sleep. The second is to keep it cool. The aim for a bedroom temperature is about 18 degrees Celsius. And the last one is avoiding the damaging and harmful impact of alcohol and caffeine on sleep.

1. As the author points out, lack of healthy sleep damages both our body and mind, so sleep is a nonnegotiable biological necessity.
2. Lack of sleep does not only affects feeling of 'tomorrow-well-being' and drowsiness, but also has a significant impact on our well-being in the long term.
3. As can be seen from the experiments conducted, lack of sleep enhances the production of carcinogenic genes, reduces the effectivity of natural killer cells by 70%, increases risks of heart attacks and worsens our cognitive functioning.
4. What I found the most shocking is that the lack of sleep will age a man by a decade in terms of testosterone levels.
5. What really struck me, there is a direct current brain stimulation, which can double the amount of memory benefit that we get from sleep.
6. The main takeaway is, maintaining a healthy sleep schedule is one of the most important tasks of a modern person to maintain their health in general.

As the author points out, a lack of healthy sleep is very harmful to both our physical and mental health. Lack of sleep causes damage to our body, some of the effects of which we will only discover after a few years. As can be seen from the experiments conducted, sleep problem is having a huge impact on the production of carcinogenic and hormones that can increase risk of heart attack. What I found the most shocking is how little attention we pay to sleep and how many consequences it leads to. What really struck me is the author’s idea of implementation of the direct current brain simulation as it can double the amount of memory benefit which we are getting from sleep. The main takeaway is that it’s extremely important to take of you sleep schedule as healthy sleep can improve not only your health but your life in general.
