Post 1 Character Trait - Beneatha

Beneatha is open minded.
She does not care what people think about her. She tells anything on her mind and does what she wants. In a way she is reckless. In the play it says " Mama, you don't understand . It's all a matter of ideas, and god is just one idea I don't accept It's not important. I am not going out and be immoral or commit crimes because I don't believe in god. I don't even think about it. It's just I am tired of him getting credit for all the thing human race achieves through it's own stubborn effort. There is simple no blasted god there is only man and it is he who makes miracles!" (p.51)
The quote shows she is open minded by saying what she believes in and or saying what is on her mind.

Beneatha is also stubborn.
She wants her way and she will do anything to get her way. In the play it also says "As for George. Well. George looks good he' s got a beautiful car and he takes me to nice places and, as my sister in law says he is probably the richest boy I will ever get to know and I even like him sometimes- but if the Youngers are sitting around waiting to see if their little Bennie is going to tie up the family with the Murchinsons, they are wasting their time." (p. 49) This shows that she does not care about what people will think of her as long as she gets her own way and gets what she wants.

Beneatha doesn't need sympathy. She is strong willed and can do things herself. She stands for herself and says or does what she wants or what is on her mind. I think she is a good person. She is someone I in a way would look up to. On the other hand, she does switch what she wants and can be reckless. So to finish off yes she is a good person in a certain type of way.

In this piece of art there is an independent black women who is showing she can do anything. The pop of color shows that she is confident and shows that she is positive. The color yellow is bright and positive. The red is being determined and blue is neutral to good and bad. The image is a women showing her muscles basically saying women can roll up there sleeves and do hard work because we have it in us.This represents Beneatha because she doesn't let anyone knock her down and won't let the men tell her what is good and what is not about herself. The mood of this art work here is feeling self-assured and bold. Showing you can do annything and not to let yourself down just like how Beneatha didn't let men tell her what to do with her hair or when she kept switching her career she didn't let anyone tell her what to do.

https://www.familyfriendpoems.com/poem/powerful-woman

This poem relates to my character because it describes a woman who is full of power and of someone who is bold and courageous. In this line the author of the poem said "She is black, bold and beautiful her strength personified from birth She is the matriarch the backbone of the earth." This shows that it relates to Beneatha because in the book she was bold to cut her hair and stand up to George. (p. 80) The poem fits great for my character Beneatha because the confidence both the woman have in the poem and book.

Source: https://www.familyfriendpoems.com/poem/powerful-woman

Post 7 - Explanation on lyrics

The lyrics are alike to Beneatha they show that girls can do anything . Us woman are bold and confident and Beneatha is a prime example of that song. She goes to school and changes her aspiration because she can do whatever she wants. She can do anything she puts her mind to and believes she can. She runs her own world and does what she wants in her world.

Post 8 - Theme

The theme in this is family over everything. You need to do anything for your family. Give up money, risk your life, or even risk your belongings. In the play Walter said " And we have decided to move into our house because my father - my father- he earned it for us brick by brick. We don't want no trouble for nobody or fight no causes, and we will try to be good neighbors. And that's all we got to say about that. We don't want your money." (p. 148) This shows that even though it was a lot of money that the family was offered Walter had turned it down because he knows his family is going through a rough time and wants them to be in a safe place. He wants them to live happily and in a regular place with a happy life. Walters dad would want them to be living in a place like this and being comfortable in a nice community. Therefore, the quote goes with my theme " Family over everything" by Walter giving the money up for the liquor store for his family to have a house that they can live in and have a nice life all together.
