In this session, I worked with Kayleigh. We decided to work on 'Give Your Heart A Break' by Demi Lovato. I learnt the song on piano by looking at the chords and listening to the Glee version of the song since it was more focused on the piano than the original.

Since the Glee version is a duet, we decided to cover that version. I sung Rachel's part and Kayleigh did Brody's part. In this session, we spent most of the time just figuring out the harmonies and deciding what kind of feel we wanted the performance to have. In the end, we decided to make it very powerful, with belted high notes.

We went away from the session with the intention of learning the harmonies ready for our next rehearsal.

I worked with Kayleigh again this session. We continued with Give Your Heart A Break. The harmonies had stumped us both so instead of trying to replicate them exactly, we decided to figure out our own.

The rehearsal went quite well but something about the song still isn't coming together. Over the break, we're both going to figure out the harmonies and I also need to work a little bit more on the piano part.

After going away for a week to work on 'Give Your Heart A Break', both Kayleigh and I came to the same conclusion. The reason it wasn't coming together the way we wanted it to is because it just doesn't fit in with our style. The song is too powerful for us. Because of this, we started working on a new song.

The new song is 'Sweater Weather' by The Neighbourhood. We both already knew it so we just divided the verses up between the two of us. I am doing the verse that is originally rap but I will be singing it. The rehearsal went well and we got the whole song down in just one session, much better than with 'Give Your Heart A Break'.

Next session, we will most likely spend fine-tuning the song and memorising it.

We also started discussing other song ideas including 'How To Be A Heartbreaker' by Marina and the Diamonds.

After discussing it last session, Kayleigh and I began working on How To Be A Heartbreaker. We changed it completely, playing it much softer than the original. The original is very belt-y and is a typical pop song. However, this wasn't the vibe that we wanted.

Overall, the song was fairly easy to put together but I can't really imagine that it will make it's way into the set now that we've worked on it. We will probably continue working on it though just in case.

Kayleigh and I didn't really rehearse that much today since I did a lot of running around for the recording team. However, we did have time to perform Sweater Weather for the group and get feedback. The feedback was focused mostly on our performance techniques. They mentioned for us to look into how we will stage the performance, where we will stand, etc. We have a stage plan so that we can figure this out.

We choose this song because we both mentioned that we wanted to include it in our sets so we figured that we might as well join forces and perform it as a duet.

I didn't have my ukulele with me in the session, so we made do with a guitar backing track. It was helpful for getting the harmonies down but not so much with getting the overall tone down since the backing track was a little fast.

We have to planned to rehearse again on Thursday and do a little individual rehearsal at home between now and then.

In this session, I continued working with Tiegan. A lot of the session was spent running around doing other things in related to recording. However, we did manage to get around 30 minutes of rehearsal in.

We decided this session that we wanted the performance to have a bit of a creepy feel so we went for very simple harmonies and everything was sung softly and sounded very airy.

Tiegan took on a low harmony and we split the verses between us. There are certain lines where we sing together in unison.

When we performed the song, we turned down the lights in our room leaving only a faint blue one. We wanted to get a feel for how we might want the lighting on the night as we wanted to give off some spooky vibes. The feedback we received was good, Rhys mentioned that we could try plugging in to the PA and turning up the reverb and maybe a bit of delay. Mike gave us some technical vocal feedback about how we could try and blend our voices a little more since they are so different in tone.

I think that Crazy only needs a few touch ups here and there and then a little more rehearsal so we can get more comfortable with it. Next session, I will move on and work mainly on my original songs.

Today, we were in Marco Island to do a full dry run of the show. Due to some people being away, we couldn't go through the whole show but we went through what we could.

Before the dress rehearsal began, Tiegan, Morgan, Kayleigh and I practised through our songs. Morgan and I in particular had a lot of work to do since we hadn't actually been through our updated set properly yet.

My rehearsal set went well, although there were a few mistakes, like playing the song in the wrong key and having to start again, forgetting lyrics and whole sections of songs and a few bum notes here and there. In a way though, I'm glad that those mistakes were made because now I will be more aware of them in the final show.

Tiegan and I decided at the end of the dress rehearsal that we needed to drop one of our songs so we decided to drop 'Halo' since it was the newest addition that we knew the least. We decided to do this since the whole show was way too long to fit into the timeframe that we planned so everyone has to make changes

I'm a songwriter first, but I enjoy performing my own music as well as writing for other musicians. I pull from a lot of musical theatre writers, allowing me to fill my music with emotion and stories.

'Crazy'
I will be playing ukulele and singing for this song alongside Tiegan who will also be singing. The vocals will be soft since we arranged a version that has a creepy kind of feel to it. Dynamically, the performance will begin very quiet, getting louder towards the end. Simplicity is key with this song as the vocals and harmonies should really stand out and pull focus. There isn't really a need for movement and we are thinking about maybe performing sat down to really create an intimate feel.

'River'
As our last song, River will be much louder than the previous two. I will be playing ukulele and singing alongside Tiegan. The verses - sung by me - are to be sung much softer to really create a contrast when the chorus comes in - sung by Tiegan - which will be much louder. This song does call for a little movement, whether that be moving around the stage, or engaging the audience to stomp their feet; it isn't a song to just stand there and sing.

'Sharks'
'Sharks' is a very quiet, emotional song. I will be singing and playing the ukulele with Morgan accompanying me on the piano. There will be little to no movement on stage, so my facial expressions have to make up for this to still create an interesting performance. Dynamically, the song is to be played very softly so as to not take away from the lyrics. I like to perform this song using some musical theatre techniques to really convey the emotion and story of the lyrics.

'Nothing Ever Hurts Like Goodbye'
This original is a lot more upbeat than Sharks. I will be singing and playing the ukulele and Morgan will accompany me on the piano. There will be more movement on stage than with Sharks but still minimal since Morgan and I will both be stuck playing our instruments. But I will have a little bop about on stage. The song will be a lot louder; Morgan will have a more prominent part, playing chords.

'Sweater Weather'
In this song, I am playing the piano and singing a few harmonies with Kayleigh. The song is mostly quiet but gets a little louder with the second verse. I will alternate between playing single chords and jazzing them up a little bit to fit the mood of each section. For this song, I will be sitting down and playing the piano so I won't be able to move around the stage. However, Kayleigh and I will play off of each other through facial expressions.

'Solider On'
This is a performance with Sara. I will be singing. Since this is the only song where I am not also playing an instrument, I will be free to move about a bit more. However, this doesn't really fit with the style of the song since it is very chilled out and even slightly sad. This is definitely fitting with my personal musical style.

In terms of my visual style, I think it matches my musical style quite well.

I play quiet, emotional songs which fits in with my casual performance style. It wouldn't make much sense for me to be jumping around the stage, having a big ol bop.

The same goes for wearing a really flamboyant outfit onstage; it just wouldn't fit in with my style.

My everyday visual style also fits in with my choice of music, light colours, floaty, calm.

For 'Crazy', Tiegan and I wanted to have a kind of creepy effect added to the performance. We asked for an echo effect towards the end of the song and for the lighting to be quite dark.

With 'River', we specifically wanted the audience to feel a dramatic shift between my tone and Tiegan's tone. My vocals are very soft and almost dainty, whereas Tiegan completely contrasts them with this huge and powerful chorus.

'Sharks' is a very simple song. I wanted the piano part that Morgan and I would write to reflect that. With just a few single notes, the piano is not overpowering and allows the main focus to still be on the lyrics but it just adds a lovely bit extra to compliment them.

I asked for my lighting in my set with Morgan to be very simple. White spotlights, very La La Land-esque.

With Tiegan, we wanted Crazy to be quite dark and ominous with a few coloured lights.

This session was our final rehearsal before the gig. My set with Tiegan went much better this time around. I still need to memorise my chords though so I don't have to take my phone on stage with me. Mine and Morgan's set went better as well as we'd actually had time to practise over the past week.

I also got to run through my song in Sara's set for the first time, 'Soldier On'. Aside from a few technical difficulties that will be ironed out by the final gig, it went well too. In fact, it's the song that I'm the most confident about vocally. However, it terms of my stage presence, it could have been better. Since I don't have my ukulele or any instrument to hide behind, I found myself very nervous. I need to work on some techniques to make my performance feel more casual and to put me across like I'm not nervous at all.
