The umbrella belief on schooling and why it is important. It takes a broad look on what school is designed or intended to be for children to be positive members of society. It is important to see our schools as a foundation to our overall society understanding of the world around us. There are many different ideas behind these global beliefs but as a teacher I really believe in helping students to become lifelong learners.

This fancy word means the beliefs and processes in knowing knowledge. This makes me think of the DOK wheel and developing their depth of knowledge in a unit. This article asks many great questions on knowledge and it is interesting to think about. I believe that knowledge is multiple as the goal is to use knowledge collectively to improve the way of life for self and others.

These beliefs are answering the questions how and why people learn. This is interesting in how it breaks apart the different types of teachers. I feel like I related to the belief that self can be a valid source of knowing, because I strongly believe in peer communication and collaboration to drive their learning.

Teachers are impacted on their beliefs on the content they are teaching their students and themselves. This is important to me because the content that we teach needs to be organized to make sense in how important how long it will take to teach the content. Teachers are able to get a better understanding on student progress through assessments and making decisions based on student needs.

Narrowing the belief down further from Global we have the teachers belief in students. This is broad to include student roles and responsibilities in the classroom to identifying differences and creating a positive learning environment. I think this is really important to show and expect a belief in your students and each other. A classroom where students feel free to share answers whether they are right or wrong is important to a successful learning environment. This requires students to take control of their learning and it may take time getting used to and it is okay to start off with mistakes. As long as you continue to improve and work towards a goal each day.

Beliefs in Students

For students to be successful they need to have their fundamental needs met. Students that do not have their needs met often do not care about the teachers needs in a class. This can cause misunderstandings and may require additional support from teacher and school site. It is argued that a closer relationship is needed to support students in need.

This reminds me of a proact training I received and the ability to understand why the student is upset or displaying disruptive behavior. Usually it is a cry for help as their needs are not being met. It is important to talk to your student and build a positive relationship that they can trust you when they are in need.
