In order to foster growth mindsets, students first must realize the value of effort and being persistent, normalizing the struggle is a way to do so, celebrating any sort of progress or accomplishments, as well as encouraging words.

Another important aspect of growth mindsets is to not be put down by making mistakes, and helping students realize that making mistakes is one of the greatest parts of learning, encouraging risk taking and analyzing mistakes is a great way to do so.

Rubric

Whenever developing activities or lesson plans, I will ensure to run through the rubric to see what I have marked off, of course showing mastery for every part will be unrealistic at first, but ensuring that most of my lesson follows the rubric well will help me feel more confident within my lessons/activities.

My ideal math learning would look like a room full of conversations about mathematics, with students at boards trying problems, explaining their logic to partners. I just want to see everyone trying and engaged with the material, as long as you are trying your best, that will go very far.

Ideal math teaching in my classroom would begin with a great conceptual understanding of topics, using a large whiteboard and being able to draw pictures and such to support the content, following a lecture-college-type of lesson, having an engaging and real world activity involving the content is what I would like.

Role of a teacher

I believe that the role of a teacher is to a perfect balance between being able to transmit information and knowledge, and inspire, guide, and facilitate the social process of learning. Leaning on one more than the other isn't very good, but I believe a teacher should be responsible for both.

Transitioning to a concept based math curriculum for teaching deeper understanding

Communicating the "why" behind things, as well as informing colleagues, parents, staff, and students about the importance of concept based.

Model lessons, plan collaboratively, and regularly attend workshops/PD events.

Integrating applications is a great way, performance tasks, providing feedback.
