Also they amended the Fugitive Slave Act. The North wanted California to be a free state and abolish the trading of slaves. The South Wanted slave states and the expansion of slavery west-word. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was a book by Harriet Beecher Stowe, it is an anti-slavery book that tells the story of an enslaved man named Uncle Tom. The story had a huge effect on African Americans and peoples views on slavery in general in the U.S. This opened a lot of northerners eyes at the time. Some southern places banned the book. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Dred Scott Decision (1857)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dred Scott sued for the freedom of his family, but he was unsuccessful. The Supreme Court ruled that slaves were "property" meaning they did not have the right to freedom. Dred Scott and his family were in a free state at the time and in the end, this changed the whole meaning of slave states and free states.&nbsp;The North was upset with the decision because they couldn't regularly enforce freedom. The South was happier because it was easier for them to have their slaves. </div>]]></description>

While it was not successful it did get a lot of attention. the North thought that he was crazy, but some still admired his courage. This scared the South because it proved just how far abolitionist were willing to go. </div>]]></description>

The North was happy about this because his election almost guaranteed the abolishment of slavery. The South, on the other hand, was upset because they rely on slavery and it was becoming abolished.</div>]]></description>
