Ernest Hemingway’s novels support the American Dream by conveying the idea of hard work to achieve their goals. Since Ernest was a hard worker and was able to become successful with his achievements, he shared his plan on how to have success during the American Dream. Anyone can prove work that helps support the American Dream, just like Ernest did by stating hard work and dedication will pay off.

Ernest’s message throughout the story was to never give up, because even the slightest of hope is a big success to whatever your dream is. In “The Old Man and The Sea,” the old man was struggling to catch the largest fish he has ever seen. Wearing out, the man grew tiresome, and almost gave up. In the end on the third day, the fish also grew tired, and the man was able to slay the fish and bring back home his trophy. This shows that no matter how much you wait or prove, you can always achieve your dream if you don’t give up. The point of the story was “about an old fisherman struggling against bad times," meaning there is a chance of hope. This is a start to the American dream that people have been striving for.

Ernest Hemingway also faced problems throughout his lifetime which was compared through his novels and other writing. “For his service, he was awarded the Italian Silver Medal of Bravery, but soon sustained injuries that landed him in a hospital in Milan.” He was injured through his time in war, lost a few wives, and had not made it into college. Although he had faced many challenges, it did not stop him from achieving his dream of becoming a novelist writer later on in his lifetime.

Ernest was a great sportsman and respected people such as soldiers, hunters, and bullfighters, etc. He showed that people who have courage and honesty can beat the brutal ways of modern society. This also works with people who begin to lose hope. The portrayed soldiers were to help build up people, and boost the people who already have plenty of courage to move on. Ernest symbolized that no matter what, nothing can hold you back and push forward. However, proved this by pushing through life challenges as well. “Serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals.” Hemingway was injured through war, lost many wives, and didn't attend college to master his job. All of these things did not stop him from pursuing his passion and dreams. This should be an example that helps others stay encouraged and push them to move forward.

“His economical and understated style—which he termed the iceberg theory—had a strong influence on 20th-century fiction, while his adventurous lifestyle and his public image brought him admiration from later generations.”

Ernest Hemingway’s “Iceberg Theory” was based off of his lifestyle of which he created for writing techniques. This theory was used for past experiences or when if something needed to be written, he would use surfaced details other than deep connected meanings. During the American Dream, majority of the writers had been strongly influenced by this theory in the 20th century. The showed how much of an impact Ernest Hemingway had on American society novelists and writers.
