In class we would go over what exactly is the Great Depression and the dust bowl and it how it effected our country. We will then talk about the major job loss, food shortages, bank failure, and homelessness. We will then briefly go over what FDR's New Deal was and what new policies he created to help fight the Great Depression.

During class I would show my students multiple videos and photos. We would watch a video like the one I have pinned above just briefly going over what was the Great Depression. We would watch other videos going over the Dust Bowl, and what it was like to live during this time period.

My students will then get into groups of 3 and choose one of the policies that FDR implemented with the New Deal (FDIC, SEC, CCC etc.) and dive deep into what each of these are and how they helped or didn't help. Finally my students will present their presentations in front of the class!

Photos also help tell a huge story with the Great Depression. Like the one posted above we see the lengths that people had to go to to survive. There are many photos that can help show my students how bad the Great Depression truly was and help them better understand it.
