Our first gig was at the world renowned Rossmoyne Tavern back in June 2009, on the occasion of our good friend; Teddy's birthday. In fact, it was because of this auspicious occasion that the band formed at all. Teddy requested some of his friends put together some music for the night, and this grew into the Massive Clowns. Playing all covers, the Rossmoyne Tavern was packed (complete with massive smoke machine manned by the birthday boy himself). A good time had by all - the first test passed. It was a start...

In 2010 we were invited to perform at a public event. We decided that instead of going with our traditional covers, we'd try to write some of our own material. Within a couple of weeks we had a bunch of songs we'd written ourselves - a proud moment! Not long after this we entered the studio to record some of our songs. Here's a great collage put together by Massive Clowns' resident artiste'; Liam Stewart.

You may have heard his power pop gem Black & White Town, which got some airplay on RRR. This song started out as one of the Massive Clowns' first bunch of originals. Eventually he teamed with brother Dylan (an amazing musician!) and put it out as a single. It's still available on iTunes!

Liam Stewart, formerly of Sy Snootles and subsequently of solo fame. Heavily influenced by shoe gaze legends Pavement and '90's alt rockers Dinosaur Jr he mixed catchy pop with a rock approach and penned some ripping tunes!
Mark 'Beaver' Rodda is the laid back tunester. Sometimes compared with Paul Kelly, Mark was the author of songs like Balmain. Perfectly suited to the laid back small rooms, Mark's acoustic based ditties were the yin to Liam's yang.
The third part of the equation was John Hughes, who drew inspiration from a range of bands and musos which meant the songs ranged from melodic rock (Karma) to hero worshipping acoustic tunes like Dempsey
