From Ratliff's "Every Song Ever" defines the concept of a single note "When you listen to a single note sounded rededately and temporarily holding court, you are listening to either a form of resistance or play -- or resistance as play -- but not the language of dutifully developing and then circling back to sum up." I agree with Ratliff's argument regarding this musical element because when listening to one single note you have to analyze it as just by itself then analyze it with the next note with it. It is a process that when complete is melodies and what we call today music. This definition exemplifies many musical concepts such as music as a whole, but also taking apart a work of music piece by piece just to really understand what the writer is trying to express through the melodic notes that we lose ourselves into every day of our lives.
