Australia Day is an important day to Australia because on January 26th 1788 the First Fleet had arrived at Port Jackson. On this day most people have fun or enjoy a barbecue. Nearly all of the Australia days are hot so to cool down alot of people go to the beach. Australia Day is a public holiday for Australia so most of the shops and restaurants will be closed. Sometimes if it’s a good weather some people go to see the fireworks. People who likes art make Australian-themed crafts. The symbolic colours of Australia Day is green and gold. On Australia Day is when most people have their citizenship’s ceremony.

On Australia Day its a public holiday so our family usually goes somewhere. This time we went camping at Coochin Creek for a night and we went climbing and went to the beach! Although we were going to stay for 2 nights, apparently it was going to rain so we went back home. On Australia Day we mostly sat in the car, set up our tent and went climbing. I celebrate Australia Day by having a big barbecue with my family. We love to go into the family room, turn on the air conditioning, let our dog in and watch a movie that has at least one Australian actor in it. Then we go to the gelato shop and eat some gelato. I think Australia Day is invasion day because it is when British people placed the aborigines in fences. Special Administrative Region Establishment Day (SAR Day) in Hong Kong is a public holiday. In Hong Kong, we have SAR Day. It is on the 1st July every year. This is a day to celebrate Hong Kong go back to China. It is a public holiday.
We also have Cheung Chau Bun Festival. On that day, people will hold a lot of activities such as bun scrambling and parade for celebrations. It is on the 8th of the 4th month in the lunar calendar. I always go to Cheung Chau on that day to watch the parade and the bun scrambling.
