The Pilgrims risked their lives to come to America, for one reason, to escape religious persecution in England. Moreover, they were convinced due to their backwards Abrahamic culture that it was perfectly fine to settle someone else's land, commit cultural genocide against them, and consider themselves divinely righteous for it. Worshipping a Middle Eastern god of blood, war, and racial supremacy helped a ton.

The Puritans of Salem, Massachusetts valued their exclusive theocratic murderous society which they created. If fostering a community which condones the slaughter of suspected Pagans counts as an American dream, I guess that'd be it.

During the Enlightenment, Americans valued personal freedoms such as that of the press, speech, and expression. They also valued a fair system of justice and representation for all (white, male, and Christan) people. These values all founded the basis of our Constitution as well as the common American sentiment that all people should be guaranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
