"...nevertheless the wine was warming and reviving to the wounded man, and he looked across with something like a throb of pity to where his enemy lay, just keeping the groans of pain and weariness from crossing his lips."

This quote is from after Ulrich and Georg both gave up on struggling to get out from under the fallen tree. Ulrich also could reach the wine flask he carried.

This quote is foreshadowing as it hints at the reconciliation between Ulrich and Georg later in the story. Here, Ulrich feels pity for Georg, because, although they both were trapped beneath the tree, Ulrich has the wine to warm him and Georg does not. The pity for Georg will later fuel Ulrich to give Georg a peace offering in the form of wine. This in turn helps them mend their fraught relationship.

This quote shows foreshadowing because, even though it's a good thing that the two men reconciled, them screaming together allowed not so wonderful things to happen to them. Their screaming together (which represents their newfound connection and trust) ended up making them get heard, eaten, and killed by a pack of wolves, not to have great things happen to them once they left the forest.
