4 Strategies for Line Editing & Proofing

Strategy #1: Read your work aloud, preferably with another person.

Strategy #2: Proof & Line Edit by making multiple passes of the draft–each pass with a different focus in mind for each pass (i.e. pass #1: Run-on sentences, pass #2: commas).

Strategy #3: If a sentence is confusing, try to find a way to shorten it.

Strategy #4: If a sentence seems overly wordy, find the main subject, verb and object of the sentence and rewrite it, starting with the subject and keeping the subject, verb, object as close together as possible.

When reading out loud it prevents from skipping words and seeing which make sense or if a sentence too wordy.
It helps to see mistakes that you might of not seen the first time.
Can help the text flow a lot more
