Mission trip to Jogja Timeline by

The train ride

It was on saturday evening, The train leaves at 5 PM. I'm ready to leave jakarta with my white mission trip T-shirt and black pants. as we got beside the train, the view of the Monas is spectacular. It's amazing that i could see the Monas this close. At 5PM the train arrives, we searched for our seats and put our luggage in the cabin. There's 7 more hours before we arrive at jogja. To cure my boredom, i video called my friend, watched tiktoks, played games, have a small talk with my friends, and even take a tour around the train! If there's nothing i can do anymore, i would sleep. I didn't realize i had been waiting on the train for 7 hours and finally we had arrived at jogja on 23:30. There's another bus ride from the train station to the hotel which took probably 15 minutes. After a long day at the train, we finally got the chance to take a rest and get ready for tommorow.

DAY 1 - Church Ministry

It was sunday and sunday's ministry is to go the church. My job here is to teach first graders sunday school. Me and my team tells a story about when Adam & Eve fell in to sin. For the activity with the kids, We did a collage project. And it was fun! after finishing our church ministry, we have lunch and then we went to ambarukmpo plaza (mall) for the day. I went around the mall myself and bought some bakpia kukus for my parents that won't even last until i finished the mission trip.not long after, we got back to the hotel to get ready for the dinner. The dinner was on Bale Raos and it was a fancy dinner. The food is brought out one by one, from welcome drink, to appetizer, main course, dessert, and finally a tea to finish the dinner. The main couse they brought was a mini nasi tumpeng. After another long day, we got back to the hotel to take a rest and of course, get ready for tommorow. Because i like eveyrthing ready the day before, i just don't like being to rushy in the morning.

DAY 2 - School & Orphanage Ministry

Second day and Monday's ministry is we went to Permata nusantara School & Orphanage. We are assigned in groups and each group teaches a different class. Of course every class has different activities. Mine is story tell about the turtle and the hare and then for the activities the kids are asked to color the turtle worksheet and then label parts of the turtle body. After that it's all done, we asked the teacher if we could take the kids out on a walk and they agreed. SO the photo above is when our group took the kids out on a walk. Long story short, time passed by and it's time to say goodbye to the kids. Before leaving, we always take a photo together with the kids. NOW, we went for a quick lunch and change clothes into a more comfotable shirt because after lunch WE ARE GOING ON A JEEP RIDE! skip.. to when we arrived at desa Banjarasri. There's a tour guide leading activities before the jeep ride. We are asked to dance, warm up, run to find new friends, learn Javanese language and more. We also got a snack after the tiring activities. Fun parts began when me, Ce Lauren (My roommate), and Ms. Elizabeth got into the jeep together. The amazing view, uneven roads, steep roads, the cool air makes the ride memorable. We laugh together how ms lizzie didn't want to be on a jeep ride anymore. I enjoyed every minute of the jeep ride. the jeep ride last until probably 6 o'clock. And then we ate our dinner an took a rest back at the hotel. Today was a 10/10 from morning till night.

DAY 3 - Orphanage Ministry

Day 3 is the day where i could be more relaxed since this ministry starts at 9. We start on an orphanage, too bad we couldn't play with the kids because they're at school until 1-3 PM, while we won't be long there. And so we were asked to clean the orphanage and help move things. We are seperate into 3 groups, one cleans the rooms, others toilet, and the playfield. At first i helped them moved their groceries, laundry, and carboard boxes. After all that finished, i helped the other on cleaning the roof because the roof are full with dead leaves. 2 hours of cleaning, we finally got into the end of the ministry. We said our goodbyes and thankyou to the people there. Then we are off to have our lunch. Then, we got back at the hotel and took a rest. Day 3 is really the most relaxing day so far. We got the chance to take a rest for atleast 3 hours before we had dinner. It was so nice that i spent my time sleeping at my room. I just need that extra energy for the night :) at 4PM we ate our dinner and after that Ms Lizzie took us to the Malioboro street. We are free to go with anyone, i went to walk with ce Lauren, yes my roommate. We are always together when i don't feel like talking to others. We bought souvenirs, Original Jogja goods, Gelato, and even talk in english so that the seller couldn't understand what we're saying ahaha. As it's time to get back to the bus, we went there earlier than everyone (it's because we're always on time). After a night stroll at Malioboro, we could finally have some peace by sleeping at the hotel :D

DAY 4 - Montessori School Ministy

Day 4 on Wednesday was the day for visiting montessori school. Our ministry destination was 2 places, the elementary and the Junior high. The elementary school was big and all the students spoke in english. Me and kak evelyn read a storybook about "The dragon's arrogance". After reading the whole book, we played a game together with the kids. And then we took a photo together and said our goodbye. We finished earlier than the others so while waiting, i walked around the school. We still had a lot of time, so we wait in a class. Ms Lizzie also bought every each one of us a Latte (TYSM Ms. Lizzie), i don't really drink coffee, but this one's kinda good. After all the wait, we're finally able to go to the next destination. JHS Montessori school. Here, we are also seperated in 3 groups. 7, 8, 9 Grades. we share and presentating all things about bullying. Before the students got to class, the principal gave us snacks while we waited. My favorite snacks there was croquette and brownies, I LOVE THE CROQUETTE SO MUCH THAT I TOOK PROBABLY 4 OF IT (i'm in love). After the snack time, It's time for us to prepare presentation materials. while preparing, Jane, Alex, Kelvin, and Evelyn leads the student on an activity. After all that finished, now we take turns presentating about bullying. Mines didn't went well, i suddenly stutters, started trembling, my brain suddenly blocked and I couldn't think of anything else. I panicked but i tried so hard to keep calm, so i just read the presentation and left the script i prepared alone. This is all my fault because i didn't prepare well enough and we also lack communication about who will present that part. I'm really under pressure and so i read the presentation as quickly as i could. I'm kind of disappointed on myself, because i am a student with good public speaking skills, but i failed badly on this one. But i'm fine, i said to myself that i will learn from this mistakes. After all the groups finished presentating, we took a quick photo before leaving. We haven't eat our lunch because today we have two destination so we went to a restaurant for a late lunch at half past 4 (or should i say early dinner?) Long story short, we got back to the hotel and ms. Lizzie bought us Limo Pizza for dinner. It was a tiring day so i stayed at my room and take a rest for the last ministry day.

DAY 5 - Hospice Ministry

Day 5, or the last day for the ministry. We went to hospice Hana early in the morning. Before talking to Elders one-on-one, we opened the session by sing together, pray together, Introduction, a little exercise, and more. I had a one-on-one talking session with oma Rabiatul, I asked and talked alot with her. And i also know alot of facts about her like ; She's a Dutch descent so she has brighter colored eyes than most Indonesians, went to the hospice to make friends, have activities together with the elderly so that she's not bored at home, and many more. I saw some of my friends getting emotional while meeting the elderly. And so after the session finished, we took photos and said our goodbye to them. We ate our dinner and then we went to Prambanan Ramayana Ballet. The show was spectacular but we won't understand the full story if we didn't read about it at the first place. We could see the candi Prambanan and the moon next to each other so clearly, it was sooo pretty. The show ended at night and we are all SO sleepy and exhausted. i also want to get back to the hotel quickly and took a rest.

LAST DAY - Home

Nothing much we do for the last day at Jogja. We just bought some goods and then went to the train station and got back to Jakarta. I met my friend Karen, she's not from Jogja but she's from Solo so i guess our train is one way. Beside meeting my friend, i also slept for a couple of minutes. After a longgg train ride, we finally arrived at the train station safely.

My first every mission trip to Jogja was so much fun, i enjoyed every minutes there. Although there are ups and downs but i tried to be more positive and confident in the future. Really hope i could have more fun on the next Youth in Mission.
