Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. One of its targets focuses on mental health, which is an important but often overlooked aspect of overall health. As we know, mental health refers to a person's ability to think and act in everyday life. Good mental health can be linked to a person's ability to live and live well in a positive and productive way. Even with good mental health, some individuals will also experience stress and if they cannot handle that stress well, it will lead to mental illness. In addition, mental health is now widely experienced by adolescents, possibly due to study pressure and uncontrolled use of social media and other problems. Based on a study conducted by NHMS in 2019, 7.9% of children and adolescents experience mental health problems. This shows that health problems are becoming more serious among our society.

As a teenager and student, I also experienced a lot of stress due to academic pressure, work and so on, especially since university. Before experiencing this, in my opinion it was normal for someone to experience feelings of happiness or sadness as well as feelings of difficulty or pleasure. I used to think before entering university that I needed to be prepared to face things that could lead to stress for me and that I needed to find ways to deal with it in the future. The way I needed to deal with these problems was by seeking support from friends and parents or practicing mindfulness.

When I face stress, I feel very tired due to mental and emotional pressure. My emotions also often change because sometimes they can turn into anger and happiness. Due to stress, I will try to ask for support to give words of encouragement and always remind myself of the verse of the Quran, which is in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 286: Allah does not charge a soul except with that within its capacity. Apart from that, I also see the beauty of nature and try to manage my time well in doing work so that I can reduce stress.

After going through that experience, to be honest I still feel that way. But it taught me to always be positive and to be a strong person. This experience taught me how important it is to take care of my mental health and have self-awareness to take care of myself. I believe that when we are patient and go through a process with patience, we build the foundation for a healthier future.

In conclusion, mental health is also linked to other SDGs such as quality education and we need to take action to address it in order to live a healthier and better life. This experience emphasizes that mental well-being is not only for individual growth but for building a community that supports each other. Together we ensure that mental health is a priority in our journey towards a healthier world.

SDG 14 is part of the 17 sustainable development goals that aim to conserve and sustainably use ocean resources and marine ecosystems for sustainable development. The purpose of this SDG also focuses on protecting marine areas and controlling overfishing activities. SDG 14 also has the importance of the ocean being the largest ecosystem in the world and providing important resources such as food, medicine and biofuels and the economy also depends on the ocean through tourism, fisheries and so on. However, in achieving this SDG, there are many challenges such as plastic pollution and overfishing. According to a study by an energy service provider from the United Kingdom called Utility Bidder, Malaysia ranks fifth in marine pollution. This is because 2.29 kilograms of plastic per year pollutes the sea in Malaysia.

Based on my observations, I also saw a lot of plastic and bottles being thrown into the sea when I went to the beach in Melaka a few months ago. The discarded plastics will cause the sea to become dirty and will become less attractive to tourists. Apart from plastic, there is also other garbage such as cigarettes, food containers and drink boxes. This discarded garbage will cause the habitat of marine life to be disturbed because the discarded plastic that has not yet become microplastics will look like food for marine life. This will cause marine life to eat it and disrupt their digestive process.Furthermore, excessive fishing activities will contribute to the exploitation of marine life and will disrupt the fisheries economy.

Next, we need to make efforts to protect the ocean from pollution. For example, we can work together to clean the sea and beaches or ban the use of plastic. In addition, we can use sustainable fishing methods so that there is no excessive fishing that disrupts the fish population. In addition, there are also ‘Taman Laut’ that have been established to restore various habitats and aquatic marine life. This can keep the population of marine life stable and protect the ecosystem.

As an individual, I also want to share with everyone to reduce the use of plastic and preferably that plastic should be recycled so that we can prevent ourselves from continuing to throw it away at will. Next, I also want to call on everyone to be diligent in participating in sea cleaning programs and so on because the sea provides us with many benefits and also increases the tourism economy if it is well cared for.

In conclusion, the sea plays an important role in our lives because it can provide a source of food full of protein. There are negative impacts that occur such as pollution if the sea and marine resources are not well maintained. To achieve SDG 14, we must practice several steps in caring for the sea and educating the community to love the environment more. Therefore, with good efforts, we will help protect the ecosystem of other living things and benefit future generations.
