         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to Gloria Ladson-Billings (2009,&nbsp; "there is very little reliable literature on preparing teachers for diversity" (pg. 8). This picture represents how much diversity there can be within a group of children. No child is the same. Every child has a unique cultural background, and it's important to prepare teachers to teach diverse learners.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Cultural Relevance</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to Gloria Ladson-Billing (2009), "not seeing one's history, culture, or background represented in the textbook or curriculum or by seeing that history, culture, or background distorted" can bring negative effects of the dominant culture (p.19). Negative effects can also be brought upon by a staffing pattern at school and seeing students of a particular culture in lowest-level class. This picture shows multicultural books for kids. I chose this picture because it Is important for students to develop a positive cultural identity. It is a way for students to develop pride in their culture by reading books they can identify with. </div>]]></description>

         <title> Maintaining Your Cultural Identity  </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Gloria Ladson-Billings approached parents to discuss what makes a good teacher. Parents believed in their children being provided with an education that "would not alienate their children from their homes, their community, and their culture" (Ladson-Billings, 2009, p.30). Teachers should incorporate activities that are culturally relevant while allowing students to achieve academic success. I chose this picture because it is an activity that allows parents to fill out information about their child's interests and family customs.When a student is child of the week, they share this information while allowing classmates to ask questions about what they learned. With this activity, parents and students are involved in maintaining their cultural identity. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Teachers who Practice Culturally Relevant Methods</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to Gloria Ladson-Billing (2009), teachers who practice this pedadogy "believe all their students can succeed rather than that failure is Inevitable for some" (p.28). I chose this picture because Jaime Escalante is the perfect example of this. Despite working at a poor inner-city school where teachers didn't believe in their students, he always had high expectations. Gloria Ladson Billing discusses the model that includes the behaviors teachers have towards at-risk students.One particular behavior that strives towards excellence is that of a coach. Escalante had the traits of a coach because he believed in having a shared responsibility with students to achieve success.</div>]]></description>

         <title>African-Americans are not Receiving an Adequate Education</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to Gloria Ladson-Billings (2009), as the white and middle-income people of color fled the cities, they not only abandoned the schools to the poor children of color but also took with them the resources" (p.3). This is why African-Americans aren't receiving an adequate compared to their white counterparts. I chose this picture because it represents the lack of resources in poor inner-city schools. Students at these schools aren't receiving an adequate education because they don't have the resources to succeed.</div>]]></description>
