         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was one of the first battles of the Civil War. When Abraham Lincoln announced that he was going to send more supplies the the fort, the confederate general P.G.T Beauregard bombarded the fort. After 34 hours of fire the Fort surrendered and the Confederate won.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Battle of Bull Run, also known as the Battle of Manassas&nbsp; took place in Northern Virginia. The battle started when roughly 35,000 union soldiers marched from Washington D.C. to attack a Confederate force of 20,000 along a river known as Bull Run. This resulted in a Confederate victory.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Franz Sigel, attacked the confederates on Wilson's creek, only about 12 miles southwest of Springfield. The Confederate decided to counterattack the Union 3 times but failed to ever actually break through the Union line. Unfortunately there were heavy losses. The Union lost about 1,200 lives and the confederates suffered about 1,100 lives.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Battle of the wilderness allowed for the first stage of a major Union offense towards the Confederate capital of Richmond. After 2 days of heavy battle with far too much death, the battle finally starts to come to an end. The Union lost 2,246 lives and the Confederate lost 1,495 lives.
