As a continental soldier that just survived two more battles of the American Revolution, you are rattled from what you have seen. You pledged to yourself to write a letter after every battle to (family member of your choice), to fill them in on the progress of the revolution and confirm your safety!
In a summary of NO LESS THAN A PARAGRAPH from your perspective as a soldier (not an 8th grader), complete a letter to your (chosen family member) describing the events of the day and your reactions to them! They are eager to hear from you!

Dear Mom,
I just fought in the battle of long Island and I saw some of the craziest things. Some things that I experienced was, we traveled all the way to NYC, the British thought that they could defend with only 10,000 people. Washington and his men escaped to a night and if is was not or the heavy fog than they would have ended up with with a British victory that day. Washington made a big mistake to split up his soldiers into 2 groups one of the groups went to Manhattan Island and the other group went to Long Island.

Battle of Trenton, Washington wants to do a sneak attack so he gathered his men up and he went through a frozen river during a blinding snow storm and he was going to surprise the Hessian's. They arrived the next morning and the Hessian were still sleeping.

Dear Family,
It was a rough time in the two wars that just happened, we went to NYC to fight the British but G.W. split the troops up between long island and Manhattan. This was the worst mistake he could have made because those islands were the hardest to defend. Later that night when we set up camp we found out the British were coming to NY so we escaped in boats. Then we realized that we had left so soldiers behind so then next morning we thought they were going to die but a dense fog rolled over allowing us to escape.
In the battle of Trenton when we woke up we decided to go across the frozen Delaware river and sneak up and attack a Hessian camp (Hessian: a German soldier hired by the British to fight for them) and when we got there most of the Hessian's were still asleep. It was so cold some of us opted to leave the army.

Dear Mommy Standly,
I have lived through yet ANOTHER battle or two of this battle. The latest battles are called Long Island and Trenton. Long Island was truly an eyeopener. My friends who fought along side me have died and lots of Mistakes have been made. For example... General Washington placed our men on two Islands, both impossible to defend. Many now believe that he should no longer be our leader. However, once we escaped those islands due to surprise weather, Trenton was easier. We attacked the Hessian soldiers and took 1,000 of them in a prisoners! For a group of beginners fighting a battle, we did great! Yet again, we did this through fog that was so thick, we could not even see ten feet ahead of us.
Sincerely,
Samuel Standly.

Hi mom, I know its been awhile. I will be home soon i promise. Me and my group had to deal with a lot of stuff. We were trapped at one point but luckily for us fog came down so we got away. We ran to Network and they chased us. We camped up and then George split us up into two groups and put us on each island to hold them down. It was such a bad idea a lot of us died i wanted to go home so bad. I could tell George didn't want to loose his role as commander so he made a plan.We crossed an ice lake and 2 of us fell in but i made it out. We captured 1000 hessian's and 5 were wounded. We won the battle and most of us made it out alive. Ill be home soon mom, i promise.

We went after the redcoats, trying to attack them, but Washington did mess up a bit and a lot of us died. We got surrounded, but the commander had a idea to go on small boats and sneak back the British's warships. After a bit, a group of us wanted to leave, they wanted to replace Washington with someone else. But luckily we got victory, after attacking a group of German soldiers who were hired by the British. This war will not be easy.
Sincerely, your brother

We have been running from the British for some time now and it was hard as it is winter and we don't have many supplies. We planned an attack on some hessian soldiers nearby and we won. Besides that not much is going on but I hope to be in a couple more battles but I hope you are doing good bye.

Hello mom its been a while since I've wrote a letter to you. I just want to write to you about the battles. The first one is long Island battle, this battle all over the place. George Washington split up his troop into two groups to defend the islands. Washington also ordered his men to retreat via rowboat in the middle of the night. 400 British soldiers were killed or wounded. The weather was really foggy in the two battles. Second is the battle of Trenton. This battle the colonist had a confidence booster. Considering the Americans won this battle, only 5 Americans were wounded. They were also able to capture 1,000 Hessian's.

Dear Mom

Our most recent battle sadly wasn't a success. We were split up and quickly defeated because we didn't have enough troops to fight the British. Luckly I was able to escape in a thick fog with some of my fellow solders. Things back at the camp though sadly arent that good. A lot of morale is low and Genrial Washington is getting the backlash for so many of our men dying. We are planning to attack a camp a little later so I will get back to you after the ambush.

Hey kids,
This Battle of Long island was really difficult and George Washington made a huge mistake of splitting the army into two groups and putting one on each island. We lost that battle as it pains me to say, but he says he has a plan to get the British back and as much as i dislike Washington and all his ideas I have to follow his order. Hopefully I will see you soon/ I am thinking of leaving at the end of the year. Most of us go captured and we had to sneak out if the British camp in the middle of the night. Though most of us made it out there were still tons of people still there. they were just left there to die. But then a miracle happened and some fog rolled in and you couldn't see 20ft in front of you. That's when the rest made their escape.

The Battle of Trenton just passes. We won! George Washington had a great idea of sneaking to a near by Hessian camp and attacking them.Only five of our men were injured none killed, except fro the two that died of freezing to death on our way there. It was a huge snow storm that was very brutal. Anyways i love you and miss you guys.
Love, Dad

Hey honey, I hope everything at home is going well. I can't wait to meet the new little bean.<3 I have yet lived through another battle. This battle of Long island was a huge disaster. We lost 2000 of our men and I was beginning to question Washington's position as commander. Luckily we were able to sneak out and run, we got super lucky because some fog rolled in making it impossible for the British to see us. We also fought in another battle called the Battle of Trenton. We were ordered to sneak into a Hessian camp and capture them. We ended up capturing 1000 Hessians. So it was a big win for the Americans. Woop Woop! But the track to get to the Hessian camp was HORRIBLE we had to cross a freezing river in a freezing blizzard. I thought I was going to get frostbite or loose a limb. But everything worked out great and I guess Washington isn't that bad. Can't wait to see you.
Love, Oliver

Hey mom, I just survived two more battles! It's crazy. The first one was kind of scary. Washington divided us on two hard to protect islands. The British then surrounded us making it impossible for us to stand a chance. 2,000 of us were killed. Washington decided to retreat at nightfall but some people still hadn't made it. To our luck, fog came rolling in in the morning making it possible for the last few to escape. At this point, everyone was cold and tired. No one know if they could trust our leader anymore. My year long term is almost up though! Washington then forced us to travel to a nearby camp of Hessians. Two soldiers fell and froze during the march. No one died during battle though. We were also able to capture 1,000 Hessian soldiers. Maybe Washington isn't so bad after all. That's it for today. I hope you're going well.

Sincerely,
Your Son

After we drove the British out of Boston, we suspected they might go to New York. Because of that, we decided to set up our defenses there. George Washington told us to separate onto two separate islands. We had quickly realized that these islands were hard to defend, so we decided that we needed to get off of them. We did so when a fog rolled in, giving the British nothing to see. Soon after, George Washington decided to attack a Hessian camp. We did so at night and managed to capture around 1,000 of them.

Dear Mother,
We have fought in two more wars, one on Long island the other on Trenton. General George Washington made a mistake on separating us on two hard to defend islands. We lost that battle and we had about 2,000 men killed. Thankfully we escaped by going across the river at night and the next day a thick fog appeared helping the others to escape. George Washington came up with a plan to attack the German soldiers that were hired by the British to help them on christmas day. Most of them were asleep so we got an easy win. None of our soldiers got injured or killed. I will write to you again soon.

I have surprisingly survived through two of the recent battles. The one before our recent battle is the reason it took as long as for me to send this out to you, we were possitioned on two islands that were IMPOSSIBLE to defend leading to our defeat. We had to run to when the fog covered us, then we kept running. We kept running until Washington, the fool that is the reason of our defeat with his, but he did something good with making us get some of that hope back from our ridiculous defeat. My platoon and I went under the cover of a blizzard and were able to capture 1,000 Hessians, would you believe that Mother? But as always Mother, I promise to rewrite to you.

From
James Jethroe"

Dear Mum, It has been a crazy couple of days. We fought two battles. George W. is an idiot the first battle we fought he split up our troops and has some of us on long island and the other half on Manhattan island because of this we unfortunately lost the first battle and we had to retreat. This was very hard for us I considered leaving the army because my year of service is almost up but I chose to stay. However our next battle was much better. We were able to capture a 1,000 Hessian soldiers. We are feeling much better about this war but we know it won't be easy the battle of long island was very eye opening. George Washington still isn't a very good leader but at least we won this battle. I'm Glad to tell you that I'm not hurt. I'll try and write again soon. I hope you're well.

Dear Mother,

As of late, I am feeling more troubled than usual. It all started in New York. My group of five thousand good men were sent to defend an area of Long Island, as the British were planning to attack New York.We fought bravely but in the end could not stand in the way of the British war machine. We were then ordered to retreat using small boats. I was part of the second group to escape, as I comforted a captain till his final breath while the others fell back. As we sailed, I felt an eerie feeling as I looked at the wooden giants only feet away. Thank the heavens I was concealed in the fog that had appeared that night. We then had to retreat and march for months at a time. Most of the men showed their true colors during this time, talking about leaving the army or having Washington removed for his bad judgement.

We eventually made camp near a group of Hessian's, separated by miles of land and the Delaware River. Suddenly, Washington rounded up a group of around two thousand plus men, including me. We were told to cross the mighty Delaware river and regroup. At that point, we marched for nineteen miles. While we marched, two men dropped dead in the snow, yet we pushed onward. We then arrived at the camp of our enemy. The battle began, with our soldiers charging the unprepared German mercenaries! I myself shot and chased down a group of Hessian's, chasing them to an orchard where they surrendered. After this battle, we had a thousand prisoners and only five wounded on our side. It was a relief, as now I and many others were feeling more reassured that we had a chance to win this war. However, we have learned that this war was going to be harder than we thought. This sums up the events of the last few months.

Your son,

Cyrus

He needs some common sense. Well one battle he escaped from the British in rowboat in the middle of night. and fog covering the morn gave the rest of us our leave. Man the British was so surprised they was like Wha where our our prisoners. Then the other battle Them Darn Americans won and stole a bunch of hessians like 1,000 of em ugh. I cant speak about anything more I'm disgusted. eww I am walking over the dead bodies of comrads.
anyway Sincerly
Ruth
P.s I hope Jimmy littles okay.

Dear Mom,
We just fought in two battles! It was interesting, I must describe it to you. In the first one, Washington had scared the British out of Boston by using their stolen cannons. They ran off to New York City. But, then we had to fight the British. We were split up onto two difficult to defend islands and we lost 2,000 men. During the night, we knew we had to escape so we very quietly rowed away on boats and during the day the rest of us escaped because of some thick fog. We made our camp look like we were still there to trick the British. Then we kept running away from the British for a while, then we had to fight once again! We had a better plan this time, we were fighting and the British took some time off for the night. We decided to cross the Delaware river in a blinding snow storm to the British Hessian camp and capture them while they were sleeping! We captured 1,000 of them! No one of our troops died! Only 5 were injured, except for when two people died because of the cold. The British had retreated and we won that battle! I am doing well, just tired and shocked, I was thinking about giving up after the first battle, but after the second I enrolled for another year! Anyway, I hope you're doing well.
Sincerely
Maverick
(chloe tyson)

Dear mom,

Here I am, after two more battles writing to you. I am so thankful to still be here and I must tell you what I have experienced. We stole weapons from the british and we finally have enough to stand up against the british. In the long island battle, we lost over 2,000 Americans, and it was tough. Washington made the horrible mistake of sending us to two different islands, Manhattan and long island. In the battle of Trenton, we went through a blinding snowstorm to make a surprise attack on the hessians. We went all night across a frozen river just to get to them. We took over 1,000 of those soldiers as prisoners. We luckily only had 5 wounded Americans and we’re very confident in the next battle. I miss you dearly and I will write again soon.

-Issac makey

At the battle of Long Island George Washington divides his men onto two difficult to defend islands. The British also attempted to attack New York City, they were victorious. 400 British soldiers are killed and wounded. 2,000 American soldiers are killed or wounded. At the battle of Trenton Americans are victorious. 5 American soldiers are wounded and Americans are able to capture 1,000 Hessian soldiers. Washington also forces his men to cross the Delaware River during a blinding snowstorm. In both of the battles the weather played a role and eye opening moment for the Americans that his war will not be an easy one. At the end of day, it was a very hard war and i struggled a lot, but I got through it.

Dear mom,
I just fought two battles! The first one was Battle of Long Island. Boston scared the British out of Boston by using their stolen cannons. Then they ran to New York city. Then it was time to fight the British. George Washington split us up onto two difficult islands to defend them. We lost 2,000 men in this battle. Then that night we had to escape so we rowed very quietly on boats. The during the day the rest of us escaped because thick fog came through and helped us out. We tricked the British by making it look like we were still their because we kept out campfire lite. The second battle was The battle of Trenton. When fighting the British again we had a better plan. We were fighting and the British took some time off for the night. We decided to cross the
Delaware river in a blinding snow storm to the British Hessian camp and capture them. When we got their a lot of them were sleeping and we captures 1,000 of them. No one in our troops died only 5 got injured. 2 of our people died on the way to the fight because they got frostbite. We won this battle! I am doing well i am extremely exhausted. I hope you are doing well!
Love,
Karisa

Dear mom, I have now gone through another two battles. The first battle is the Battle of Long Island and it was terrible. We lost it and George Washington split us up on two different islands and we had to row out secretly and thankfully it was foggy so we were concealed. Unfortunately we did loose around 2,000 men. The next battle went a lot better the Battle of Trenton. We won this one thankfully and it gave us a lot of hope for the next battles and we captured 1,000 Hessian soldiers. I hope to be home soon.
Sincerely, your dearest son

Then the battle of Trenton we snuck on boats when it was foggy out and we captured up to 1,000 hissions. Mom since you don't know they are German troops helping the british. At long island it was cold and miserable because we were expexted to win. Anyway be home soon. Love you guys!

- Taylor

I was almost left for dead, but thanks to a blinding fog I was able to escape in the morning. Then our army had to march through the blistering cold on charismas day to capture over 1,000 hessian soldiers. I nearly died to frost bite, but I'm happy to report I'm still alive and kicking. My moral is still low and I realize this battle is going to be a tough one. I hope to write to you again soon.
-Much love
Alex

The first battle we fought all of the soldiers almost died because Washington made the mistake of putting half of the troops on Long Island and half on Manhattan Island. We heard of an attack the British were planning so Washington made a plan to escape. At night, we used row boats to get past the British warships but there wasn't enough time for everyone to make it out before sunrise. As the morning arrived, a dense fog covered Long Island and all of us were able to escape. After being chased for awhile we managed to plan an attack on the Hessians which are Germans hired by the British. While they were all still sleeping we crossed the Delaware river in a snowstorm to make it to their base. We managed to take 1,000 Hessian soldiers hostage and only 5 of our men were injured with no deaths. Overall I am okay and will see you all soon.

Love, Elias

Dear Mother, i hope that this reaches you soon because a lot has happened recently and i might need some of your cooking. One of the things that have happened recently is the battle of Long Island where Washington split us up into to groups (not a good idea) and let me tell you it wasn't pretty 2,000 of our people died in that war and many were wounded. Many of us were doubting his ability to lead us, so as his last effort to restore hope in us he takes us to Trenton, on the way there 2 of us froze to death and we had to cross the frozen Delaware river. When we reached the camp the hessians were quick to surrender and gladly only 5 of us were wounded. This effort to take over camp Trenton has made us believe in Washington again and many of the people who had their terms end this year wanted to join again.

I was wounded but not killed. We were on two islands and George Washington is very dumb. My fellow soldiers escaped at night, but i had too in the morning. Luckily there was fog and i escaped. Then at the battle of Trenton we won after telling George Washington he is very dumb and almost all of us Soldiers leaving. We ended up winning that battle by a mile.

Dear Honey,
We have just finished the battle of Long island and Trenton. I have luckily survived both and was not part of the 2000 other colonists who died in the battle of long island and did not freeze to death in the battle of Trenton. For the battle of Long Island we caught wind of how the British were going to attack new York after we flushed them out of Boston with 59 cannons we stole months ago.We brought 10,000 soldiers but, George Washington made a horrible mistake of separating our troops to defend impossible places. The British ended up coming to New York with around 20,000 soldiers and 25 ships. The battle lasted the full day and we tried to flee at night in the midst of a fog. We took row boats and sneaked past the British and escaped leaving them confused. After that us colonists started questioning George Washington's rule and we started to consider leaving the army. Then George Washington had us travel over the Delaware river and surprise attack the Hessian who were German soldiers hire by the British. We were lucky enough to catch them while a lot of them were sleeping. We ended up taking around 1000 of them and only 5 of our soldiers were injured. I wish I could say this war would be an easy one but after these battles I cannot. I will fight my hardest to end this war and rejoin you.
Love, Eren

Dear Mother and Father,
I've survived two more battles that will scar me for life. First, we stole 59 British cannons and pointed them at Boston Harbor to scare the British away, and it worked! We had Boston to ourselves for the first time in 8 years. However, they returned and General George Washington had us fight them on Long Island and Manhattan Island, which are terrible locations to defend. We lost around 2,000 men. The British "won" that battle. Most soldiers (including me) were disappointed with Washington's leadership. I mean, we should be able to kill more than 400 of those crumpet-eaters! But we had expert sneaky skills and rowed dinky boats past them at night and through dense fog. Instead of letting us return home, we made a surprise attack on a Hessian camp. We took around 1,000 of them prisoner. Plus, we had no casualties. (except for two weaklings who froze in the blizzard!) Anyways, I think the war will last longer than expected. These redcoats are certainly putting up a fight. I hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Oliver Cornelius

After the Battle of Long Island and Washington making a extremely dumb decision by putting half of us on one piece of land we couldn't protect and putting the other half of us on a piece of land they couldn't protect. We all got together eventually and we thought we were all gonna die. the British had us cornered. But there came a fog and we were very carefully able to get out! a lot of us were wanting to leave as soon as possible. I really didn't believe in how smart people say he is. so we headed into the Battle of Trenton. It was very hard we had to Trekker's through a snow storm and many of my fellow comrades had died from the cold. I somehow made it through.

Dear Luke,
More has happened in our war... yes, war. We have started a war against the British. We have declared independence. The last battle we just had... well, it was bad, then good. George Washington decided to split our army up on two islands, which were tedious to defend, and we lost way too many men... we were then trapped, and the British wanted to attack at dawn. But almost as if a strange force was on our side... a fog appeared just before the crack of dawn, and boom, we got away safely. Then our NEXT battle. We traveled through lots of snow and over a river during a terrible storm, to a town full of Hessians. George, the great leader he is, cowered in the back... anyway, we got there, and they were asleep, so we surprised them! None of us died, and we captured a thousand of their men! All of our soldiers who were gonna leave the war are planning on staying now.
We have confidence. Maybe we can win this. But... what will it cost...?
Also, something odd had happened to me last night... I was asleep, when I woke up to a shuffling noise. I looked and it was someone, or something, watching me closely. It may have had horns and red eyes, but I am not sure. It had swiftly left when I had seen it. I swear it was wearing an odd trench coat... don't you wear one too, Luke?
- Clay Z. Ankir

First, Washington, like the big stupid ugly jerk he was, positioned half of us on Manhattan Island, and the other on Long island. We were locked down, and were basically dead where we stood. By all accounts, we shouldn't be alive, 2000 of us died, but thank the heavens it was foggy at night, and we sneaked away on boat. Then, Washington pulled my way from the warm comfort of my home to row a boat for MILES IN THE BLIZZARD. At least we did eventually win, we took the Hessians by surprise and we won in an hour. I vow to never boat away from land again. That's it for now. I don't want to die for nothing.

Dear mom,
You are getting this letter because I'm luckily still alive. I have survived two battles that were very harsh and scary. During the first battle, 2,000 of our men died because General George Washington made the mistake of separating half of our troops on Long Island and the other half on Manhattan island. We were surrounded by the British. General Washington devised a plan to escape the British without being caught. We were ordered to be silent and rowed boats at night. We were lucky because of the foggy weather. All of our soldiers could escape because of it. Most of us were feeling very down, and even I thought of giving up. I started to question General Washington's leadership, but he created a new plan.
We planned to attack the Hessians' camp, which was nearby. We had to cross the Delaware river while there was a snowstorm. Two of us died because it was so cold, and they froze to death. We separated into two groups and attacked the Hessians.

Dear Mom,

There have been two more battles and I have survived them both. The first battle was the Battle of Long Island. Lots of soldiers died because Washington made a mistake of splitting us up and we lost tons of men. One group was on Manhattan Island and the other on Long Island. We were trapped there so we had a plan to escape. We used boats to escape and there was fog so it was the perfect escape. Also it was night so that helped. Then Washington came up with a plan to attack the Hessians. It was a blizzard. They were still sleeping and we surprised them. We took 1000 soldiers as hostage and succeeded. No one died which was good.

Love you!

dear mother, I'm doing well. I was sent to long island but Washington made a huge mistake. We got stomped but im all good. I was almost killed because i was on the very last boat out of there and i would have been killed if it were not to this fog. I was in charge of getting all of the fires going and if there was still a boat then i could take it. After that at the battle at Trenton i killed 5 German soldiers and captured two more. I had a bullet give me a haircut but im all good. No need to be scared. ill be fine. Remember when this is all over there will be no redcoats except the ones with the tail in between there legs that are running and there will be no taxes. Thanks you son.

Dear Mom, I made it through two more battles. The first battle we fought our leader George Washington made a huge mistake by splitting the solders apart. Group 1 went to Long Island while group 2 went to Manhattan Island. We lost so many solders i barley made it with some solders on rowboats. Everyone that got left behind got lucky because of the fog. We were so down and ready to quit but, Washington had a plan to attack the Hessians that British hired. We started to cross Delaware river in a snowstorm, we lost 2 people while going to the hessians camp. Once we got there they were all asleep so we fired some shots at them and was able to capture 1000 solders. None of us died but only 5 of us were injured.
We won.
Love, your son

Dear mother, Two new battles have taken place if you already have not heard. The battle of long island and the battle of Trenton. During the battle of long island it was very cold and foggy. I could barely see. Washington made a very stupid mistake by splitting us up, but luckily we were able to get away by row boats. However the battle of Trenton had a much better outcome for us. We were able to win and even got 1000 strong hessian soldiers, They did scare me though. Anyways, stay safe.

Dear Mom,
I hope all is well back home but I had to write to you telling you everything that has happened recently. It has been crazy! I've survived two more dangerous battles.George Washington made the mistake of splitting his troops up and making us defeat two impossible islands.Thankfully, we made it out alive thanks to our rowboats. We "camped" and set a fire to fake out the British. It was suuper foggy so we were able to escape with them thinking we were camping there. That was a crazy one! But the next battle I got through was pretty amazing. We marched through a terrible blizzard and found a group of sleeping hessian soldiers that the British hired. We captured 1,000 of them! Aren't we so great? Well anyways, after we captured them we got super excited knowing we are a great group of soldiers. After the first battle, I was worried and wanted to come home. But knowing that I can survive when 2,000 of us didn't, I think I'm going to stay.
Love, Marshall

Dear mother, as you are receiving this, you can assume that I am alive. At the battle of long island, we had suffered a horrible defeat. Commanded Washington had placed us on an undefendable position and we had to retreat. We were quite lucky though, raght as we retreated, there was a heavy layer of fog that covered us. It was very hard to sail past the enemy ships undetected, but we managed. After that I had decided that I was most likely to quite as this year ends. Luckily for commander I have no other choice but to stay. As we continued through the winter, we went to go and raid the Hessians, . We were able to take 1,000 captives after we crossed a frozen lake. Two men died from hypothermia, other then that though, we haven't really lost any men on that raid.
Please let me know how things are at home,
Sincerely,
Your Son.

Dear mom, I am writing to you to tell you that I have fought and survived in two more battles. Souldiers were questioning Wishington's position so he needed a victory to prove himself. Though he made a terrible mistake by dividing the men into two difficult to defend islands. Not only that, but in the second battle he forced us to cross the Delaware river during a blinding snowstorm. Neither of the battles were easy, and weather had also played a role in both as well.

Dear mom, I hope you are doing well without me in the strong hold. As you see I'm still alive and healthy however I have been trough things. Our army and General Washington decided to march to Longview Island and Manhattan island to defend against the British. I don't know how Manhattan is doing but we had to flee losing a lot of men. After the loss most of us including my friends Williams left the army. That didn't stop General Washington, later a few day I believe we had a weeks full of walking in ice cold winds. We were successful in assinating the hessians to regain our confidence however I'm still mad at Washington for what he has done to me and my friends.

We were lucky enough to escape on rowboats because it was foggy and the British couldn't see us. I was so tempted to come back home after my one year was up, but after our most recent battle, I'm not so sure. We captured 1000 Hessians and none of our men died. We are so excited after this battle, and I am going to stay in the army awhile longer.
Sincerely, Jeric

The battle of long island was a disaster with me barley getting away with my life. Everybody was discouraged and wanted to quit including myself. We needed a booster. We attacked a camp of Germans hired by the British and captured 1,000 soldiers. it was a massive success.

Dear parents,
I've fought in two more battles, one where we almost died, the other where we won by a landslide. The first one where we almost died happened because General Washington split his soldiers into two groups and placed us in separate islands. Theses posistions were impossible to defend and we suffered heavy losses to say the least. Around 2,000 men died and we had to retreat. No one was feeling very good after that, some were seriously considering leaving the army after that. We only made it out thanks to Washington's brilliance and shear luck. Using rowboats and the cover of fog we snuck right under the British's noses. Somebody set fire to the town but no one knows who. After that we ran for months until we came to a small town named Trenton. We heard there was a camp full of Hessians nearby. When we got to the camp, nearly everyone of them were sleeping. It took less than an hour to make them surrender and we captured 1,000 of them. I love you guys and I wish to be with you guys but I wont come back until we're free.
Love Zachary.

Dear Parents,
I have fought in two battles one which I didn't think would survive and the other one I was proud to fight in The first war where we all nearly died is because General George Washington split us up so my group went to one Island and the other group went to another island and the worst part is they were both really hard to defend and the British out numbered us by having two times more people then us. We ended up loosing 2,000 men unfortunately and we had to retreat because of his stupidity. None of us were feeling good and most of us wanted to leave I know I did i did not want to die. We only made an escape thanks to General Washington because he actually thought this plan through and was really lucky so during the night we went on rowboats during the night but we had to leave some their but in the morning it was really foggy so the rest of them were able to escape luckily. Somebody also set fire to the town but we have no clue. Soon after that we ran for months and found a camp with Hessian's nearby and they were all sleeping so it took less than an hour to make them surrender to us we then ended capturing 1,000 of them. I miss you guys so much hope to be back soon but I have more wars to win for now.

sincerely,
yours truly
