I think providing options when I am creating assessments is important to allow students to truly be able to share and demonstrate what they know without hindrance/barrier. Also, allowing for collaborative learning by means of virtual collaboration not just verbal (using technology like virtual polls, etc) can be impactful to allow students to express themselves confidently.

As a teacher, you can encourage your students to respond in a variety of ways, not limited to just writing. In an English class one could implement a technique called thought chronicles where students can respond to the course material with a drawing, a collage, a poem etc. as long as they are engaging with the material we should encourage them to try any type of expression that they feel most comfortable with. Not everyone engages with material through critical long form writing like essays or shows their learning through tests.

In my place of work we do monthly check-ins, making note on strengths and weaknesses that may have occurred for each employee this allows me to discuss ways to help them improve in the next month or things I can do to help them achieve their goals. By being open with each other has helped a lot. Which is somethingI would want to implement in a similar way into the class room so that I am aware of what may need changing and to know how each student is growing throughout the term.

Offering a suggestion box for things they like to learn about, would like to bring into the classroom, and if there are learning techniques they like. So that the teacher can pull out an idea once a week to incorporate into the learning environment that way everyone seems heard. I love holidays as well so by bringing in other events that are happening around the world one can relate school topics to other things that may be happening around the same time or helped influence topics being discussed. This will help with motivation and perhaps help students persist through any challenges they may have if they can not think of ways to relate the information to themselves (this has worked for me in the past when teaching art classes at an art studio to children)

I think that multiple formats of the same assignment should be accepted. Example: poetry, song, performance, essay, drawing etc. This gives students a chance to demonstrate what they know, while also showing mor of there personality and strengths.

The CAST website shared a cool tool called CAST folktales. It's a reading program that helps students develop their English skills especially if they are proficient in another language. The program has built-in translations to English alongside their stories and has various reading levels, questions, and prompts that can assist in literacy skills for students.

Expressing confidence and ability in each student. some students are stronger in certain areas than others Ex. when teaching Art classes to kids some are better at colour theory or drawing V.S Painting but by indicating how each student is successful in their own way it will help them better express their talents in the future or in other projects. To me this also ties into the Representation topic as well as it can spark interests, building knowledge and skills and also help the student find what they are good at (especially if they may not think something of theirs is a strength). I believe this will build their confidence and want/ desire to learn more

Allowing various means for student evaluation to express what they know. Being used in tandem with an activity that gets to know the students (i.e. a KWL chart), teachers could encourage students to decide if they want to be assessed by a video project, essay, oral presentation, etc. This would require teachers to develop a balanced rubric that is flexible for various means of assessment, but is possible if planned out before hand.

Finding avenues where students can develop a real interest in the lesson resonated with me. Having activities that would get to know your students and make them feel heard and individuals can lead to increased engagement. Like early on in this course we had google forums about us or the "myth of average" activity that called for personal reflection. Giving opportunities where students can relate to the material and form connections can be important for engagement.
