I'm Laura from Italy.

I'm a foreign language teacher and I've been working in different backgrounds: kindergarten, primary, secondary, high school and with adults too.

The numbers of students from other countries is constantly increasing in Italy but in many small villages and towns there's still a narrow-minded attitude towards cultural diversity, among students and young people too.

I'd like to be part of a process in which diversity means enrichment, growth and opportunity so I enrolled on this course because I do believe intercultural education at school is our present and our future, since school is always the mirror of the society we live in.

I think they are natural human features and we should use these aspects together with students' natural curiosity to promote activities such as roleplays, games, drama in which students can experience and share different feelings in different situations such as joy, fear, rage, pride, shame... 

As a foreign language teacher I'm supposed to encourage cultural diversity so the biggest challenge for me in becoming an interculturally competent teacher is the to promote a multicultural vision day-to-day in all aspects of the learning process. 

Thanks to dialogue empathy can be supported and taught: that's very important to me!

Another very strong point is to accept differences knowing that it's not necessary to understand everything but we must accept diversity.

I'd like to create a project-based activity starting from the 4Cs idea.

I'd like to mention story-telling, cooking, surveys, roleplays, music as well.

We usually use videos, songs, pictures, posters, tales, maps, original documents instead of school books.

Moreover during classes I prefer to use multimedia materials, maps, pictures instead of book.

When we're using books I support students with schemes, maps, key words often supplied by mother tongue students from the same class.
