Rousseau lived until July 1778, at the age of 66. Jean believed that everyone should be able to express their individual interests for different things. He put his hope in the "general will" or the better population of the people. In Rousseau's words the community should have some limitations, but they should be minimal. Rousseau created his ideas into a reality, he explained his views on government and society in The Social Contract. The Social Contract was a contract for all citizens to agree to for legitimate freedom with some rules.  Some commentators saw it as no more than the dictatorship, which became Jean's downfall. Jean-Jacques Rousseau impacted governments around the world with his idea of the social contract and the importance of individual freedoms. 1. "Man is born free, but he is everywhere in chains," Rousseau compares the freedom that was given to the population at the time to chains, this creates an image in the audiences mind to reveal the injustices. 2. "What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?" as Jean said these words he was trying to convey that kindness is the ultimate key to life, when the government was applying so many rules it was unfair and wasn't kind.
