'I Will Follow You into the Dark' by Death Cab for Cutie

Darkness has been used as a metaphor for death and it is especially poignant that the writer says that death is no deterrent for him and his loved one to be together. The metaphor of the cab signs to indicate a vacancy is especially effective in developing the image of emptiness. With 'hands clasped so tight' they will go together into the next world, having lived a remarkable lif together. They have been fellow travellers from 'Bangkok to Calgary' with 'worn down shoes', a symbol of their paths in life. In death as in life, they will be together and this is grimly comforting and all one can ask for.

"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol

In "Chasing Cars", the title suggests pursuing the impossible (dreams, desires, etc.). Chasing cars is something considered silly. A car is much faster than a human man to run after. The song starts off with “We'll do it all, everything, on our own. We don't need anything, or anyone.” Singer starts with these lines as an attempt to strengthen his conviction towards expressing his love for his romantic companion. The singer makes a bid to give prominence to the significance of his affection for her by the lines “We'll do it all, everything, on our own” which suggests that everyone else but the two of them is irrelevant and “We don't need anything, or anyone” suggests that nothing in the world is of any meaning to the singer and that as long as he has the ability to love someone without fear of adversity of judgement of others, the both of them would need nothing else and will be accomplished. The lines “If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?” is repeated four times to emphasise the significance of these lines to the singer and how he wants to stress the meaning behind these lines. The lines seem to be the singer’s attempt to appeal to his romantic companion to stay side by side with him despite adversity and hardship, he wishes for his love interest to reciprocate his love and care and love him and nobody else. The singer also ends the song with these lines, further bringing out greater impact of these lines and making it his main message of the entire song. The song is suggestively written as the singer's own unique mode for him to express his love to his love interest with "I don't quite know how to say how I feel" and settles on conveying his feelings via a song. The singer, presumably a man trying to woo a woman, appeals to his love interest in dreaming up a common shangri-la between them with him as seen from “Let's waste time chasing cars around our heads”. He envisions a utopia where both he and his love interest may live together peacefully without disruption although he knows this is impossible as “chasing cars” -a task physically impossible for a human being- suggests trying to make attempt at doing an possible task yet, he wants to continue dreaming and hangs on to any trace of hope there is in turning his dream into reality.

FULL ANALYSIS OF ENTIRE SONG WITH LYRICS SHEET @ GOOGLE DOCS at the link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wyDjgjXwOLg8UcyGYjIJA-pDlYZZHk2ei08z4qM8AVQ/edit?usp=sharing

ELDON SOH 305

And how Philip emotions are not hidden and instead known to Anne.

For the fourth stanza, there is a play of idiom “hands are tied” meaning being the inability to act or move. The song writer use this idiom to show how the characters, Philip and Anne, though knowing they both have feelings for each other but are being pulled away from each other.

For the fifth and sixth stanza, “it’s not in the cards” shows Anne feelings towards her relationship with Philip that it is not possible for them to get together. “And fate is pulling you miles away” the word fate is to represent the different colour of Philip and Anne where Anne is a black woman. Because of the discrimination from society that can block Philip from being together with Anne.

At eighth to tenth stanza, it shows how Philip does not care about the factors affecting their relationship and insist on having Anne on his side.

Stanza 11 “Rewrite the stars” is a metaphor for changing destiny. The words “what if” is to show uncertainty Philip has if changing their destiny is the right decision,

Stanza 20, Anne says that Philip thinks its easy for them to get together but that is not how Anne think about it. Because of Anne’s skin colour, being in an interracial relationship will be looked down on.

Stanza 22, “there are mountains”. Mountains represent the separating factors between them and how its hard ‘climb’ over them to solve the problems.

Stanza 39-40, Both Philip and Anne singing that emphasizes the things they want to share with each other and do with each other.

Stanza 46, “How do we rewrite the stars” the word “How” shows that they want and are trying to find a way to change their destiny or being able to be together despite Anne race.

Stanza 48, This stanza emphasizes that they are ignoring laws and possibilities of getting looked down on just to get together with each other.

Outro, But at the outro, reality hits them and Anne thinks that it will be impossible to get together with Philip due the to society breaking them apart. It was looked down upon for a white man and woman of color to be together in that period of time, and illegal for them to marry.

The writer used word play to make this song moving. With word play like “hands are tied” which its literal translation explains Anne job in the circus working with the ropes. “hands are tied” also means someone unable to act which also emphasize the relationship between Philip and Anne that both of them are unable to do anything to get together. Another example is “rewrite the stars”, this is a metaphor which represent what they want to do, to change their destiny by ignoring all other discrimination from the society and getting looked down upon. This metaphor is used around the whole song to show their thoughts. At the start “what if” is used with “rewrite to stars” to show they are both not sure if changing their destiny is the right decision and because he needs Anne to agree for the attempt to be successful. At the second time “no one can” is used with “rewrite the stars” by Anne to emphasize the contrast of Anne’s pessimistic viewpoint and Philip optimistic viewpoint. The third time used is with “how do we”, showing how Philip and Anne is now trying to find a way to help them change their destiny. This is a word play at “rewrite” is used to represent change and “stars” is representing their destiny. It creates a moving mood with the change from pessimistic to hopeful attitude by Anne and how they continuously want to get together and finally, together they have hope to change their destiny and be able to be together without getting looked down on and legally get together.

NASA - Ariana Grande

The song begins with a quote reworded from Neil Armstrong's moon landing, 'This is one small step for women, one giant leap for womankind.' This suggests the fact that woman should be empowered, and later connote that women are allowed to do things that they think are beneficial to themselves and their relationship. In the fourth last line of the first verse, the singer mentions how it's like 'i'm the universe' and their significant other is the 'N-A-S-A'. Like how the NASA has only explored an insignificant area of the universe, the singer believes that spending some time away from her significant other will not only make her feel like a mystery to him/her, nut also deepen their love and trust for each other during the process. During the chorus, the singer also continuously mentions the word 'star' t empathize her self-worth and that she shouldn't feel unworthy of herself or the significant other during the relationship. To end off the song, she 'rather be alone tonight, and you can say 'I love you' to the phone tonight. This reinforces her belief that distancing from her significant other can help them to understand each other better and therefore strengthen their relationship.

Give me a reason - P!nk

This song to me sums up the fragile nature of relationships and the variances in the emotional demands of each person in the relationship. Pink made the following quote to spotify: “Sometimes one partner can be like, ‘The way you passed me the butter this morning, I kinda feel like we’re going to be over in a month ’ and the other partner’s like, ‘I just passed you the f—ing butter, what are you talking about?’ and that’s how I felt the song should go, ‘We’re growing apart, you don’t spoon any more, like it’s all over’.”

Her quote fits typical characteristics of the needs of the average woman and serves as a perfect illustration to the severe differences in emotional needs of men and women. The song to Pink is about the desire to hold onto a relationship when it appears to be breaking down. The writer uses the metaphor ‘you stole my heart’ this indicates that the writer was attracted to her partner. The writer also states the companion ‘help to correct the ugly parts’ of the writer. The writer uses the metaphor ‘ things you never say to me’ indicates that the companion says thing behind the writer’s back and the writer knows about it. The writer uses the metaphor ‘tell me you’ve had enough of our love’ indicating that the writer really wants to know if the companion really wants to end their relationship. In the chorus the writer uses word play ‘we're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again’ this shows that the relationship hasn’t ended and when something is bent it can be bent back into its original shape, indicating that with effort they can turn their relationship back to a loving one. The writer also says ‘just give me a reason, just a little bit’s enough’ indicating that the writer just wants to hear a reason on why the companion wants to continue this relationship. In the third stanza there is a change of singer as this song is about a conversation between lovers, hence it had to be a duet. The writer states that ‘Your head is running wild again. My dear we still have everything. And it's all in your mind’ indicating that the lover is trying to say that the writer is worrying about problems that isn’t real that she is just imagining it. The writer uses the metaphor ‘ There’s nothing more than empty sheets between our love’ indicating that their love is very plain as a empty sheet has nothing written on it hence their love is very plain and boring. The writer uses the metaphor ‘tear ducts and rust’ indicating rusting due to the reaction between oxygen and water. The writer also uses ‘i’ll fix it for us’ showing that the writer cares for the lover and wants to help with the problem of ‘rusting’. The writer uses the metaphor ‘we’re collecting dust, but our love's enough’ indicating that their relationship is getting dry hence collecting dust but the writer says their ‘love is enough’

indicating that the writer feels that the lover’s love is enough for her to continue their relationship. The writer uses word play ‘We’ll come clean’ indicating that the couple will be truthful about their sins and hopefully forgive each other.

Tessa Tay This is me - Keala Settle and the cast of The Greatest Showman

This song sang by the cast of the popular movie The Greatest Showman talks about the perspective of “freaks” they call in the movie, abnormal people due to their looks, and have been shunned and criticized. This song written and sang by a group of people believed to be these “freaks” finally decided to pluck up their courage and stood up to others who had criticized, shunned them away and hence this song.
The song starts of with the line ‘I am not a stranger to the dark’ shows and emphasizes how they are being shunned away into the dark hence they are used to being in the dark, ‘not a stranger [to it]’. Constantly having to ‘hide away’ and not wanting to have ‘[their] broken parts’. The use of the word ‘hide away’ and ‘broken parts’ also further emphasizes how people look down on them and their “abnormalities” and they themselves should not be shown out in the public, probably having seen as an embarrassment to the public. All in all the first few parts of the song emphasizes the shame they used to feel and how people had shunned them, “abnormal people” away. Subsequently, the writer uses the rhythm, beats of the song as well as the careful choice of words, literary devices, used as lyrics to bring out the strong emotion felt by them after years of being treated unfairly, and being shunned away, all let out after the snowballing of those emotions.
In the following part, the singer places much emphasis on the phrase ‘break [us] down to dust’ highlighting the strong emotion, anger she felt, representing them that they would not give in so easily and let them continue to hurt them. Also that ‘there’s a place for [them]’ , their existence should be deemed important like any other “normal person” and be treated fairly. Afterwards, the writer personifies the ‘words’, that others have been saying about and to them, with the action of ‘cut[ting]’, ‘[them] down’, emphasizing how hurtful those word were to them. The lyrics follows as ‘[she’s] gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out’ the exaggeration of her actions of ‘send[ing] a flood’ to ‘drown them out’ highlights how furious she is of being mistreated by the other “normal” people and wants to rebut them, stop them from continuing to do so. It follows with the line ' marching on to the beat [she]/[they] drum'. This shows that she is trying to convey that they are the ones in charge of themselves now, following whatever they think instead of constantly listening and tolerating others and what they had done. Furthermore, the image of ‘round of bullets hit[ting] [their] skin’ afterwards, is gruesome and cruel and also emphasizes the hurt placed upon her and is further enhanced by the following line of ‘well, fire away, 'cause today, [they] won’t let the shame sink in’. This shows that they could continue going on hurting them temporarily as she has had enough and would not take it, allow it anymore as she has finally come to a point where she would do something about it and refute it, not allowing it to continue hurting her, shaming her. Afterwards, the line goes 'burstin' through barricades', overcoming obstacles together. 'Barriers' are a metaphor of the constant shunning and mistreatment by others, 'bursting' highlights again the strong emotion they feel, instead of using words such as "overcoming" , "climbing over" , but the use of 'bursting' , this also highlights how much they must have gone through to use such a word conveying a strong sense of emotion. Next, the line of ‘we are warriors’ is a metaphor of them that they would finally fight back and not take any more shunning, criticism or hurt. Last but definitely not the least, the last line in the lyrics ‘This is me.’ using a short line with 3 words and linking back to the tittle of the song, reinforces and re-emphasizes the message that they are who they are and would not change or be shunned away just because they are different. They would not be afraid of being who they are.
In conclusion, the composer and singers of this song, makes this song entertaining, as people out there feel the same way as the cast, striking, filled with emotions using several literary devices, careful choice of words and placing much emphasis on certain lines.

Ong Chin Wen- Wild Things by Alessia Cara

The song functions as a voice for the outsiders, and to thus put emphasis that there is no need to conform to societal norms and expectations. The title “Wild Things” accentuates that although the outsiders are branded and feared as not a fellow human and classified as an unknown object to society, they are well aware of their differences as are proud to show it. It has a hopeful and empowering tone along with the defiance as well as indignance through spreading a message to everyone, regardless of age or circumstance, to embrace their true uniqueness no matter what. The song starts of with ‘Find table spaces, say your social graces, bow your head’, where it paints a picture of how current society wants them to act according to societal norms, with the table setting used to symbolise a constant pursuit for attention, success and the best of the best, similar to trying to get a piece of the pie. However, some people do not deserve a place at the table or do not have enough ‘social graces’, not adhering to a proper way to act which therefore forms the group of outsiders. Comparatively the few next lines contradict that ‘we’re pioneers’ and ‘we make our own rules’, putting emphasis that there is no need to follow the usual crowd who tries to fit in or better themselves as they would be able to craft their own paths. The words ‘you’,’I’ and ‘ours’ are used to emphasise the songwriter’s attachment to the rebellious outsiders, highlighting that they are not alone on their quest for self-acceptance.‘Let them sell what they are selling, there ain’t no buyers here’ draws connections to the consumer culture and constant need for materialistic achievements, like expensive clothing, cars or phones to prove one’s success in society.’Ain’t no buyers’ thus suggests that she is not attempting to join that lavish lifestyle, where people persistently need to impress others. Ultimately, her perspective encourages others not to lose sight of themselves in this lifestyle and instead be themselves to the fullest, focusing on what makes them comfortable in their own skin. The symbol of empty chairs in ‘and we will leave the empty chairs/ To those who say we can’t sit there/ We’re fine all by ourselves,” means those with conservative or dominant expectations of society that usually would rather not welcome new people into their circle and are indifferent towards others who want to join them. This leads to more separation instead of unity, but the next lines suggest that the outsiders assertively assures the society that they do not need to be given a place with lacking desire to join them and they are fearlessly going to continue in their own quests. Their confidence is further accentuated with the line ‘ We have no apologies for being…’ as it does not specify what they are sorry for, with slight criticism towards the society for expecting them to be apologetic for their own identity and for their existence. The line ‘I lose my balance on these eggshells’ is referencing the idiom Walking on eggshells, which defines someone being overly careful in order not to offend or upset someone else. The metaphor suggests that she is done and exhausted with trying to put up a front and portray a character much to the liking of the majority, so she stops putting up a facade. This also hints to others to follow in her footsteps to accept themselves for who they really are, to not feel shameful of themselves but to be carefree and enjoy liberty. The metaphor of “carve our place into time and space” also shows how she intends to make her mark, and to create something new and better, becoming more successful than those who would follow trends. ‘Into time and space” brings to show how the singer wants her beliefs and her message to remain in history, encouraging generations after generations to understand and continue the legacy of her rebellion against social norms.

Vionn Tan - All Too Well by Taylor Swift

Lyrics to the song — http://www.metrolyrics.com/all-too-well-lyrics-taylor-swift.html

Taylor Swift wrote this song about her past relationship with an ex-lover. She used a lot of imagery in this song which makes it really easy to picture what Taylor is singing about. Taylor wrote this song reminiscing on her memories with her ex-lover from start to end. In this song, she not only talks about her feelings during the relationship, but also her feelings after the split. To me, this song tells me the ups and downs of a ‘typical’ relationship. Even after the breakup, Taylor Swift remembers all the little things about the relationship, which emphasised how much it meant to her. ‘Cause there we are again, in the middle of the night... I remember it all too well, yeah’. For the whole 2nd chorus , Taylor is really specific and careful with the words she uses to describe this particular memory. ‘Middle of the night’ and ‘refrigerator light’ uses imagery and really sets the mood and increased the intimacy of the moment. It paints a picture of a quiet, sweet moment shared between Taylor and her ex-lover. This enhances her feelings from the car ride with him. And finally, for the last 3 lines, she ends it with ‘Wind in my hair, you were there... I remember it all too well’. The fact that she repeated these lines several times in the song highlights the importance of this car ride with her ex-lover. Although their relationship is over, a part of Taylor will always remember the small details of this relationship. Therefore, in my opinion, this song is really moving as she vividly describes the memories with him.

The song title's meaning 'Imagine' is about liberation and peace and something everyone needs to believe in if we want to make a better place for humanity. The song was called 'Imagine' as John Lennon knew that it is impossible to achieve and humans are unable to act with kindness, love, respect and empathy.

The song's lyrics, 'Imagine there's no countries' and 'no religion, too', there would be 'nothing to k i l l or die for' suggests that things like religion, countries and money are the reasons for war and fighting, if there was none of this, there would be fewer wars resulting in lesser people getting killed. For example, there is a lot of fighting in the Middle East because they are indoctrinated into a control based society with their religion as the dictating ruler. If there were no religions, perhaps the whole world could have heaven here.

'Living life in peace' shows the message to enjoy the moment, live in the present and not upset ourselves with what was and what might be but to embrace the moment, flow with the universe and to enjoy.

'It's easy if you try' and It isn't hard to do' tells us living a peaceful life would have been possible if the world was being shared and '(lived) as one' with no possessions, countries and religions.

The songwriters uses a lot diction and imagery to make the song more striking and moving. The phrases,“When the days are cold”, “when the cards all fold” and “when your dreams all fail” all refer to situations where things go wrong, and situations that we want to forget about and leave it behind us as well as secrets that we are not proud of and want to hide from the world. The technique the songwriter uses those phrases are those of imagery, as a listener would imagine those images as they hear the song. The lyrics, ‘This is my kingdom come’ gives listeners an image about a king and his kingdom, which emphasises the persona in the song finally taking charge of their life, when they were struggling before, and also can be referred as God’s kingdom, which contrasts the lyrics where the singer said he was ‘🤬-bound’,as heaven and 🤬 are two contrasting mediums in all forms of literature, and emphasises the conflicting emotion the singer was trying to portray. The lyrics,’Look into my eyes, it’s where my demons hide.’ emphasises the singer’s admission that he and the rest of the human race could not hide his/her problems forever. The main theme of the song is addressing the darker side of oneself, and trying to overcome past mistakes. Therefore, the songwriter and singer makes the song striking and moving, as everyone can relate to this song at one point of their lives, as everyone had some low points before.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFQYaoiIFh8

https://genius.com/Billie-eilish-idontwannabeyouanymore-lyrics

The song conveys the insecurities faced by the composer about her own body image. A line in the chorus of the song which goes ‘tell the mirror what you know she’s heard before, I don’t wanna be you anymore’ and the continuous repeat of the phrase ‘I don’t wanna be you’ personifies the mirror as a ‘she’ and suggests that the composer is not satisfied with the person before her in the mirror. This is a deep portrayal of the self-consciousness most people in society face due to the high subjectivity and standards of beauty as another line in the chorus ‘if teardrops could be bottled, there’d be swimming pools filled by models’ states. The suggested meaning behind it is that the models in our current industry face so much pressure trying to create a flawless front to model how we should all desire to look like. With the pressing urge to be perfect making them more self-conscious about their own insecurities and feel a need to get rid of them. The composer uses a metaphor to suggest that the amount of tears shed by models could be compared to that of the volume that holds large quantities of liquid swimming pools, emphasising on the pain they have to go through emotionally, putting their mental health at stake. Worse, another line in the chorus ‘told a tight dress is what makes you a wh*re’ is a representation of how judgemental society is about the way people decide to dress or look. This is how the composer uses the technique of diction to evoke emotions. Everybody has an opinion, but it gets toxic when negative ones are targeted at someone just for showing their personal preferences, whether it is their choice of attire or even the way they portray themselves. It appears there is a standardisation of how ‘normal’ people should act and people that are void of this category are being called out and outcasted for expressing themselves. Through this, I have formed a strong impression that the composer is calling out the toxicity of the beauty industry with the lyrics. It is disturbing to me as the song is discerning in the methods of how individuality is discouraged in this day and age. However, it would evoke emotions from people through the realisation of the deep meaning the song holds and the personal thoughts and moves people, while showing how a lack of individuality amongst people would just lead to everyone being the same and extremely lacklustre in personality.

Hong Jia - Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

https://genius.com/Queen-bohemian-rhapsody-lyrics

The writer uses a lot of diction to make the song more striking. The song is about a man who committed a 🤬 and is now sentenced to death.

Intro: The intro mainly describes
the personas feelings towards his death sentence. "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?", this line shows how the persona is wondering if he is really about to die or if it was just a dream. It can also be seen that he is overwhelmed by his sadness or fear from the phrase "Caught in a landslide" and it also states that he knows he cannot run away from what is going to happen, this can be seen from "No escape from reality." Now as he is facing imminent death he has lost all hope and does not care about life anymore, as shown from "Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me".

Verse 1: This first line in this verse is talking about him killing a person, which is basically the main point of the song.
just killed a man, "Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead". These lines "Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away" suggest that he was a young man and had a long life ahead of him where he could have done great things but now he will never have that opportunity as he is sentenced to death because he killed a man.The lines "Mama, ooh, Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters" shows that he was not trying to make her sad by killing that man. It also shows that he wishes for her not to worry about him and carry on with life as per normal if his sentencing is to be carried out with no delays.

Verse 2:"Too late, my time has come, Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time" , these lines shows how he cannot go back in time and that his execution is unavoidable. This also shows his immense amount of fear, therefore he has "Shivers down [his] spine" and his body aches.
"Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go, Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth" these two lines show how the persona is going to die as he faces the fact that he murdered someone, and is saying his final farewell to his family and friends. "I don't wanna die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all", it is clearly shown from these lines that he does not want to be executed and starts thinking if it would have been better if he had never even been born rather than dying in such a way.

Verse 3: In this verse a new voice enters which represents his family or loved ones. The line "I see a little silhouetto of a man" shows that after committing a 🤬 he cannot be considered a real man but instead a shadow of his former self. Galileo is also mentioned in this verse, this is relevant as he was falsely accused of a crime, even though the persona did 🤬 someone he still feels that he does not deserve such a severe punishment. "He's just a poor boy from a poor family" this line shows how his loved ones are pleading for his life and trying to get people to sympathize as he is poor in order to get a less serious sentence. "(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let me go.) Will not let you go (Let me go.) Will not let you go. (Let me go.) Ah No, no, no, no, no, no, no." this part of the song show his family and authorities getting into an argument whether the person should live or be executed. "Beelzebub has a 🤬 put aside for me, for me, for me", Beelzebub refers to Satan, and how the persona feels that Satan has sabotaged him by influencing him to go 🤬 that man.

Outro: The writer repeats the phrase "Nothing really matters" three times as if he were trying to calm himself down and convince himself that there was no point in caring about what is going to happen to him in the near future.

Overall the song is striking as it describes the emotional torment that he is going through during this time of immense stress and fear. It is clearly shown that he is remorseful of his actions, and it make you feel a little sad for him even though he killed someone. This song is very special is it captures attention by the unique use of words. The writer is quite straightforward about what the persona is feeling or thinking but even so there is still a lot of thing that require deeper thinking to fully understand what the song is about.

the writer is feeling a lot of mixed feelings and shows his uncertainty of a girl's response to his liking for her. he does not know if she has mutual feelings for him and he does not know how to find out more about her feelings towards him.
the phrase " show me an open door and you go and slam it on me " tells me that the girl that had owns the power to manipulate his heart is sort of playing with his feelings and shawn mendes is still unsure of her feelings towards him. it seems to him that she is giving him a chance to step into her world but the fact that she 'slam it on him' makes him feel rejected and tried of trying to make a move and try to get into her world and heart.
the phrase ' i stand a hundred feet but i fall when im around you' tells me that he literally crumbles around her, showing the importance and respect he gives her. he puts himself down in front of her, this implies the power this girl has over him.

at the chorus , he is calling out for her to stop playing his feelings. 'im a puppet on your strings' tells me he has finally realise she has been laying around with his feelings and he is begging her to have mercy on him and to let him go .

at the second verse , he is asking for a stand. he wants to know if the girl likes him back. he wants the girl to acknowledge his feelings and tell him exactly what she wants and he will take it with an open heart.
the next few sentences also show how desperate he is to get an answer from the girl he likes but at the same time , he is afraid of getting rejected because to him , his pride is very important.

at the bridge, the first two description of how he is feeling , 'consuming all the air inside my lungs , ripping all the skin from off my bones' implies that the girl is really hurting him to the extent that he feels like he is going to separate from his own physical body. however, even so he still wants to go the extra mile for this girl and is prepared to even die and sacrifice everything. the bridge was repeated to show his willingness and sincerity.

towards the end of the song , he begs for mercy from the girl, showing that he does not want this type of no-status relationship with the girl. he wants things to be sorted out and feeling to be true. he does not want to be controlled by someone that is not being true to him and herself and being mysterious.

all in all, when i listen to this song, i feel intense heartbreak and a sense of desperation. his words and feelings put into the song allows one to feel for him although i may not have the same experience as he had.

This can be seen from the pair of lines that contradict with each other in the first stanza. It seems to suggest that the persona was once a high and mighty fever and was reduced to a beggar whose roles contradict with each other.
In the second stanza, the persona is reminded of the time where he could "feel the fear in (his) enemy's eyes" and is reminded of the olden glorious times where he could "listen as the crowd would sing".This seems to suggest that the position the persona holds was very lofty as he was able to receive such treatment yet it was the direct opposite when it was suddenly revoked from him by the expression "the walls were closed on me" which suggests that the sudden change was quite an obstacle to accept. The next line seems to suggest that the sudden change made the persona realize the inner workings of the "kingdom" that he was ignorant of previously in his peak.
In the chorus, the line "be my mirror, my sword and shield" is almost like a war cry or rally by the persona. This seems to suggest that the persona is leading a force to rebel against a certain force. This suggestion is further backed up by the next stanza which describes scenes of the revolt such as "shattered windows and the sound of drums" which seem to emphasizes how domineering they were in their cause to rebel against the kingdom. However, the phrase, " Oh who would ever want to be king" suggests that the intention of the persona revolting is not due to his desire to be king of the kingdom and could have a deeper meaning behind it spurred by the sight of the inner workings of the kingdom. It also suggests that the persona is at a state of loss as success in rebelling meant that the persona would take over the throne. The chorus emphasizes this feeling of loss with the line "for some reason I can't explain, I know Saint Peter won't call my name" which seems to suggest that the crusade they were on would not bring any benefits to them an instead they would be shunned.

Overall, although the song has quite a sad meaning to it, the play with the words have made it such that it has a vibe that causes the audience to feel motivated.
https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/coldplay/vivalavida.html

Charmaine Tan - The Story of Us by Taylor Swift

The title ‘The story of us’ gave me a first impression that the song is about a description of the lives of certain people. The vague title intrigued and compelled me to find out more about the story behind this song. The song starts off with ‘I used to think one day we’d tell the story of us how we met and the sparks flew instantly’. This implies that the composer felt this relationship of hers would be lasting. The use of ‘sparks flew instantly’ is a figurative description of how the composer felt like they were meant for each other. ‘People would say, “they’re the lucky ones” ‘, shows how the composer imagined that people would be envious of them. ‘I used to know my place was a spot next to you now i’m searching the room for an empty seat’ shows that she used to be of importance to him however, the use of imagery ‘searching the room for an empty seat’ shows how she felt that she was not someone significant in his life anymore. ‘Cause lately I don’t even know what page you’re on’ , shows a tad bit of annoyance that she was unable to understand him anymore as he was not on the same pace as her. ‘So many things that i wish you knew so many walls up I can’t break through’ implies that she had lots to tell him but she was unable to open herself up. The repetition of ‘so many’ emphasises that although she wanted to tell him many things, the urge in her to not do it was as powerful to stop her from saying them. Stanza 4, ‘Now i’m standing alone in a crowded room and we’re not speaking and i’m dying to know is it killing you like it’s killing me yeah I don’t know what to say since the twist of fate when it all broke down and the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now’ is repeated three times which suggests that those were the thoughts and feelings that the composer wants to share greatly. ‘I’m dying to know is it killing you like it’s killing me’ indicates that the composer felt extremely hurt that both of them were not talking to each other but she was unsure if he felt the same way as she did. The use of ‘tragedy’ in ‘The story of us looks like a tragedy now’ , is a hyperbole which highlights how the composer felt that the state their relationship was in was so disastrous that it was unsolvable. ‘How’d we end up this way?’ , is a rhetorical question which emphasises that she felt that it was unbelievable that their relationship would be in such a bad state. ‘I’m starting to think one day i’ll tell the story of us how i was losing my mind when i saw you here’ is contradicting as at the start of the song, she said about how she would tell the story of them and that people would envy them but now it was the total opposite. This contrast shows the two totally opposite situations where things was not as what she had planned to happen and the fact that she said she was going to tell the story of them conveys the overwhelming amount of disappointment in her that she had to tell another story which was not what she assumed she would tell others. ‘Why are we pretending this is nothing?’, is another use of rhetorical question which implies that she felt that it was a serious issue and they should not let it go. ‘The battle’s in your hands now but i would lay my armor down if you’d say you’d rather love than fight’ , implies that she felt that it was his choice on whether he wanted to save this relationship and she would let her pride down if he decided to get her back. The words ‘battle’ and ‘armor’ are from the same lexical group. She described the relationship as a ‘battle’ which meant that it was in a tough state. In battles, people wear armors to protect themselves from getting hurt and when it is used in this context, it conveys that she was willing to give in greatly were he to say that he was willing to save this relationship and get it back to normal. The end of the song ended with ‘the end’ which shows how she felt that their relationship had no more hope and she had already given up on it. The song is striking as it highly conveys the message of how she felt that the relationship was toxic. Throughout this whole song, she added in lots of her thoughts and feelings which allowed me to grasp the content she was trying to convey easily.

Siddha - bury a friend by Billie Eilish

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUHC9tYz8ik

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJqWZ3Zy5CU

The writer uses a lot of diction to make the song more moving. The song conveys the message about how friendships can be the cause for depression and suicidal thoughts.

In the first stanza, the writer asks herself a lot of questions, ‘What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me?’ and many more questions. This depicts to the audience that she is just as inquisitive as how a typical teenager or perhaps a child would be.

In the second stanza, she says ‘Say it, spit it out, what is it exactly’, suggesting that she is asking her friends why they are beating around the bush to say something. She then says, ‘Am I satisfactory?’, which suggests that she is asking them what are her flaws.

In the pre-chorus, she then says things that will cause immense pain such as ‘Step on the glass, staple your tongue (ahh)’. This in turn, suggests that she is trying to harm herself or to try to forget the problems she is already facing by diverting the mental pain she feels into physical pain. As the song name suggests ‘Bury a friend’, she wants to bury a friend because of the pain she has felt by the remarks they gave about her. In this song, the phrase ‘I wanna end me’ is constantly in use to show that she wants to end her life because of the negativity and the haters. In the music video, at this point, a number of hands with black gloves surround her face, disturbing her vision, suggesting that her friends or haters are being an obstacle to her. After that, they push her down and rip her shirt at the back area, and then all of them inject syringes onto her back with a blue liquid. Blue liquids are seen as highly poisonous or dangerous, thus it suggests that the injections feel like daggers or in this case words that highly impact her. As such, they are slowly killing her.

In the next stanza, she tries to stand up for herself despite being in a helpless state. This can be evidently seen from ‘Keep you in the dark, what had you expected?
Me to make you my art and make you a star And get you connected?’ as ‘dark’ suggests negative feelings. In this case, it is helplessness, desperation and depression. Following that, she says ‘I'll meet you in the park, I'll be calm and collected | But we knew right from the start that you'd fall apart | 'Cause I'm too expensive’ suggesting that she wants to talk it out face to face with her friends and haters instead of them continuing to backstab her and say false information about her to other people. ‘Honestly, I thought that I would be dead by now (Wow)’ shows how amazed she is about staying alive despite everything that has been happening. ‘Bury the hatchet or bury your friend right now’ suggests that the writer is telling her friends and haters that there are currently two options, to make peace or make war.

In the next stanza, she says ‘For the debt I owe, gotta sell my soul | 'Cause I can't say no, no, I can't say no’ suggesting that whatever her friends or haters had told her to do, she could only afford to them by giving her life away. Despite that offer, she is not allowed to say no and disagree to whatever they said. This evidently shows what are the tough times she is going through. At this part in the music video, she is seen spinning 360 degrees together with the camera. It can be inferred that the spinning refers to her being driven up the world by all the problems she is facing. Additionally, despite her turning in 360 degrees, and her hair and necklace following the direction of the spinning, she is still able to look straight at the camera. This suggests that she has decided to ignore whatever that is happening around her and look straight in life.

Following this is the refrain of the song. As the conclusion, the writer goes back to her normal self, but now with more experience, asking the same questions, such as ‘When we all fall asleep, where do we go?’. This suggests that she is back to being an inquisitive teenager, but with scars from her previous experience. This can be seen in the music video, as her pupils of her eyes are bigger, suggesting that she is now wiser.

The diction used helps with the juxtaposition of the words in the song. These contrasts in the words help to make the song more moving for those who have been through similar experiences.

But if you isolate yourself with the outer world, it is difficult for you to make a place for yourself in society.

In the Pre-chorus verse, the first 2 lines stated 'whip, whip, run me like a racehorse. When racehorses are whipped they tend to gallop faster, implying that pain is beneficial in some ways. This suggest that the persona is craving for pain so that he will be molded into a stronger person. The word “race” subtly hints that he sees the world as a race which brings about competitiveness in the society.
In the last line in Pre-chorus, it states 'break me down and build me up' which suggest that the persona is ready to be broken down with the belief that he will become stronger than before. Pain is thus viewed as a method to spiritual ascension, growth, and overall happiness.

During the 2nd line of the Chorus, it stated ''Cause i love the adrenline in my veins'. In a stressful situation, adrenaline is a hormone that is secreted into our veins, providing an energy that pushes us to our limits. The persona loves the rush and craves for more so that he can break his limits.

In Verse 2 it states 'Always had a fear of being typical' suggest the persona's idea of being different from the other and want to outshine them. The persona wanted to be popular and make a name for his career
In the 6th line of verse 2, it states 'looking at my years like a martyrdom'. The word martyrdom refers to a person who suffers or sacrifices themselves for the greater cause or for their beliefs. The persona might felt that he has sacrificed his youth and years into his achievements and success in order to rise to the top.

Being 'born to run' refers to the figurative aptitude for chasing his goals while “born for this” refers to his beliefs to overcome any challenge or occasion that rises. The phrases when put together, paints the image of the persona feeling the inspiration and confidence to to overcome what lies ahead of him.

In the bridge, 'Dont wanna be the parenthetical, hypothetical', stating that the persona doesn’t want to be just an aside or a sidelined figure, instead he wants to achieve something concrete and realistic.
In the bridge also states 'an epoxy to the world and the vision we've lost'. This means that the persona wants to hold the current world together and united as one and restore the vision of spreading peace and love.

Overall, this song uses alot of imagery and diction to encourage and motivate people to put in their best effort in whatever they do. Trusting their own abilities to work under pressure, many obstacles and backstabs to be able to thrive in their career. No matter in what circumstances to persist and not give up.

Cheryl- Skyscraper by Demi Lovato

Skyscraper-Demi Lovato
Skyscraper is a song which provides support for people going through hard times in their lives. Demi Lovato sang this song while she was going through a tough time in her life where she is dealing with mental health issues such as bipolar disorder and depression which started from a young age of eleven, due to the constant bullying that she had to face. She also battled many other things like self-harm and eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Hence, she sang this song to remind her to stay confident, never give up and rise above and overcome any obstacles.
The song starts with “skies are crying, I am watching.” Personification is used in the phrase “skies are crying” where the skies crying is implying that it is raining. This lyric creates a depressing mood as when it rains, it is usually associated with a feeling of sadness due to the darkness of the sky when it rains. The darkness symbolizes the emotions of Demi, displaying a sense of sadness, sorrow, and dejection. This lyric also uses imagery as we are able to picture how dark and gloomy the sky is, allowing us to feel the sense of sadness as we imagine the depressing scene of a gloomy and dark sky as it rains heavily. The metaphor, “Catching teardrops in my hands” is not really talking about her own tears but more on the pain and suffering that she had gone through in her life. It also further emphasizes how she is wallowing in despair and sadness, as she catching the teardrops symbolizes that she is accepting the sad and depressing situation that she is in. The line “Do you have to make me feel like there is nothing left of me?” tells us how deeply hurt she is that she feels that she is “broken” meaning that she was very despondent. The chorus “you can take everything I have/you can break everything I am/Like I’m made of glass/like I’m made of paper” contains many similes like “like I’m made of glass” and “like I’m made of paper”. The phrase “like I’m made of glass” shows how fragile she is as she is being compared to ‘glass’ which is always
associated with being fragile, weak and delicate. “Like I’m made of paper” represents how she feels like she could be easily ‘ripped apart’ and fall apart like delicate paper. However “Go on and try to tear me down/I will be rising from the ground like a skyscraper” then shows how she
Is challenging someone or something to try and hurt her again but this time she is confident that she is able to handle the situation and stand tall and confident, not letting anything bring her down. “Like a skyscraper” is a simile used to describe how she is able to stand tall like a skyscraper and rise above all the problems and difficulties faced. The next verse contains the lyrics, “As the smoke clears/I awaken/and untangle you from me/would it make you/Feel better/to watch me while I bleed/All my windows/Still are broken/But I'm standing on my feet.” This line “as the smoke clears/I awaken/And untangle you from me” tells us that she can finally see that taking 🤬 and self-harming causes detrimental harm to her and starts to stay away and distance herself from all those which are harming her. “All my windows/Still are broken/But I'm standing on my feet” symbolizes how she might never feel the same again after being hurt so deeply and how she can never forget the past. “All my windows/still are broken” means that she might still feel hurt. “But I’m standing on my feet” shows that although she was hurt or may still be hurt, she is still brave, confident and is able to stand up for herself, not giving up in any circumstances.
In conclusion, this song is very moving as it tells us that life is not always perfect and that there will definitely be many obstacles in life but more importantly we have to stay strong, stand tall and rise above all the problems like a ’Skyscraper’.

https://genius.com/Demi-lovato-skyscraper-lyrics

Brave by Sara Bareilles

It is an uplifting song and the purpose is to encourage people to stand up for themselves as it can solve the problem and make things easier for them. In stanza 1, 'you can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug' means that you can interpret the words that a person say to you either positively or negatively. The words 'weapon' and 'drug' means something that makes you feel hurt. 'You can be the outcast' means that you can be left out or forgotten. However the last line in stanza 1 said 'or you can start speaking up' means that the person can choose to stand up for himself/herself or continue to stay negative. In stanza 2, the writer uses personification in 'Nothing's gonna hurt you, the way the words do when they settle 'neath the skin'. Because words cannot literally settle underneath the skin. This shows that if you speak up for yourself, it is not going to harm you. The writer also uses personification in 'sometimes a shadow wins'. The shadow may belong to the person hurting you however he/she is not there and you are still letting the shadow affect you. In the last line of stanza 2 and the first line of stanza 3 is a run on sentence. 'But i wonder what will happen if you say what you wanna say' tells the reader that saying how you feel is an option and something good may happen if you choose to follow it. In stanza 6, 'Everybody's been there, Everybody's been stared down by the enemy' tells us that everyone has been through tough times since he/she emphasises on the word 'Everybody'. Being stared down means that the enemy looks down on you and he/she bullies you. 'Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing' shows that the person being hurt gave up and tried to avoid the problem. 'Bow down to the mighty' also shows that the person feels inferior to the bully. In this line the writer uses imagery. 'Don't run, just stop holding you tongue' encourages the reader to stop holding back his feelings and to say what he truly feels like saying. 'Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live' is a figurative imagery as no human would live in a cage, the phrases encourages the reader to find ways to open up and face his or her fears. 'Maybe one of this days you can let the light in' shows that by standing up for yourself, things can get better as light is used to convey something positive. In stanza 9, the poet leads the reaser to question themselves if keeping quiet does anything to solve the problem. In the chorus, the writer repeats the words 'Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out' and 'wanna see you be brave'. This stresses and emphasises the main idea of the song, which is to encourage the reader to to muster the courage and talk about his/her feelings. All in all, the writer managed to use imagery, figurative imagery, personification and repetition of words to make this song moving and entertaining while allowing the writer to convey the message of facing your bullies and never cow to pressure.

https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/sarabareilles/brave.html

The writer of the song uses diction to make this striking. The choice of word and phrases used are inspirational words that highlights the message to believe in yourself and all that you are. However, most importantly to know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle. The phrase, 'I won't just survive' suggest that you will do amazing and incredible things that people did not expect or that others do not believe that you are able to do it. The word, 'thrive' suggest that you will prosper or flourish exceedingly well in what you do. The phrase, 'I'm beyond the archetype' suggest that you are more than what others think of you. The word, 'archetype' means a very typical example of a certain person or thing and the fact that you are ' beyond it' emphasis your unique an outstanding inner ability that distinctively stand out from the others. The sentence, 'I won;t just conform, no matter how you shake my core, because my roots they run deep' emphasis the value of determination and perseverance you have. The word, 'conform' suggest that you will not comply or accede to the obstacle no matter how big a obstacle you face because your belief stands strong and urges you to face it bravely. Even though you might have ' little faith', 'don't doubt it'. The alliteration of words 'don't doubt' intensifies the strong importance to not underestimate your ability but to believe in it no matter how much faith you have. The phrase, 'victory is in my veins' highlights the fact that you have the ability to overcome it in you but it is up to you whether you want to believe in it and use it wisely. These inspirational words and phrases emphasis that the strongest factor for success is self-esteem. Believing you can do it, believing you deserve it and believing you will get it

This song is about a singer who had a failed relationship, and slowly learnt to self-love and be independent. She uses diction and imagery to highlight her emotions and thoughts.

At the first line, it started off with her saying that she “would not wear makeup” and was “sick of covering up”. Makeup often used to cover up or hide pimples or scars on faces. The singer used this term as if to hide our mistakes and flaws as a person. It also allows listeners to imagine how much makeup can cover up one, or to totally change one. What the singer is trying to say, is that she wants to be free and to be just her bare self, without makeup. The singer explains that she gets “shy” and “anxious” or when she “tries to embrace “her” insecurities”, this emphasises how imperfect she is as a person. She gets really worried about the way she is, and also tries to accept them as she “embrace” it. It also highlights the great impact it has on herself with her own personality, and the huge amount courage she has to face it. She also mentions that “there are many things [i] could change slightly” and to “succumb to something so unlike me”. It shows thats there are things she could make it different, despite being herself. She also emphasises how important it is to prioritise yourself first. “Don't change for anyone”, the word “don't” has the effect of commanding listeners not to change for a person.

At the chorus, she says “i wanna love, i don't wanna cry”, it shows that she wants things to change. She also wants to be able to “sing” and “dance”, and these actions require the confidence to do it well. Moreover, she wants to “feel beautiful”, and these are the needs she has as a human. The songs continues mentioning that she would wear “sweatpants”. When sweatpants are worn, it outlines one’s body curves. This shows that she has confidence to show off her body, despite it being good or bad in people’s opinion. She would also be independent and would not “need a man”. Though at time she feels “lonely”, she could cope with it, instead of a man being with her. She could “sit alone and be” and it shows that she could manage it by herself and not rely on others, thus building independence. Lastly, she realises that “who she is is enough”,she learns to prioritise herself and love herself. After listening to this song, I feel more confident as a person and have the influence to love myself too.

Madapa Justin

'If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me'
This song talks about the value and importance of a mutual relationship between two human beings. As stated that although 'the mountains should crumble to the sea' the lyricist has stated that he 'wont shed a tear', so long his partner/loved one 'stands by (him)'. In many instances throughout this song, the author has listed down several scenarios whereby he indirectly states that although the weight of his troubles is too much for him, he will be able to carry on with the emotional help his partner/friend gives him. When the lyricist mentioned that 'the mountains could crumble to the sea', he was meaning to introduce the greatest intensity of the problems one could be facing, as mountains are HUGE in size. It could mean one losing their job, or one facing a fatal health issue or losing a loved one. One that is of extreme value to us, and we just happen to lose it, will cause us great emotional pain and discomfort. The writer also mentioned that 'if the sky that (he) looked upon' was to 'tumble and fall' he wouldn't 'shed a tear'. This could mean that the 'light' in his life has been extinguished, and his life is filled with nothing but darkness. He has no drive to achieve anything in life, and would dwell in his emotions, wishing things were otherwise. However, he wouldn't cry, so long as his partner/loved one 'stands by (him). This ultimately shows that, the relationship between those two is so strong to the point that, they are able to alter each other's feelings just by being close to one another, and are able to bring out the positive and good vibes in each other. It also comes to show that, no matter how intense the problem or how great the losses are, being next to a loved one/ partner allows his pain to dissolve and let's him see the positivity in his life, and it gives him the energy to continue living. Therefore, I believe that the main idea of this song is to stress on the importance of mutual relationships with one another, and to value it.

Kowalski,analysis
The song is about being realistic when looking for love. At the beginning of song, the singer states about stories of superheroes and even gods such as Spider-man and Hercules. The singer then states, 'and clearly I don't see myself upon that list'. This highlights how the singer does not see himself at a unrealistic standard or as someone special, and is just a normal person. This brings back the main point of being realistic. During the song, the singer also states how he was 'not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts'. This shows that the singer too does not want to set unrealistic standards for the person he wants to love and that he just wants somebody he can 'turn to' and somebody he 'can kiss'. This highlights how the singer just wants someone who truly loves him and is there for him where he needs them the most and is emotionally present. The singer then states he wants 'Something just like this' which is the main title of the song and is then repeated many times during the song. The words could be sang from both the singer and his love interest with both of them agreeing on one another, one after the other due to the words being repeated one after the other.
For verse two, the singer further highlights the main point where the singer sings about 'the moon and its eclipse' and referencing superman. The moon and its eclipse is a epic event that is miraculous and Superman is widely known as one of the strongest super heroes of all time. Afterwards, the singer states how he is 'not the kind of person that it fits' with 'it' referring to the Superman suit. This shows how the singer is not someone special and not someone who does miraculous things and is just someone normal in the world. I feel that this song is to highlight on how love does not have to be so complicated and have someone big such as in a 'fairy tale bliss' which was stated in the song as fairy tales are unrealistic and include dramatic moments that just don't occur in the real world. This song also highlights how people should not set unrealistic standards for the people they want to love and that true love can sprout from simple people and simple things. After listening to this song, I too have done the same which shows how impactful the song actually the song. In fact, the song is also very simple to understand and yet possesses such a deep meaning to it, which is what the singer wanted to highlight in the first place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM7MFYoylVs

This emphasises that something very bad and serious was still going on.
Throughout the song, Tupac highlights the main issue faced by African-American and mentions how certain social issues are linked from one to another. For instance, he made a correlation between the colour of his skin with poverty. 'I'm tired of being poor and even worse I'm black'. It also suggests that being a black has a lower position in the society. He wrote that his 'stomach hurts' therefore, 'looking for a purse to snatch'. This explains that they were hopeless and was in need of food linking to how poverty causes crimes. Next, he describes the relationship between the cops and people of their race with 'Cops give a damn about a nergo? Pull the trigger and shoot the 🤬 and he's a hero'. This annotates that the police are not concerned about the welfare of the Africa-America. Furthermore, people of the country would adore them if they shoot them down. This also annotates the difference between the positions, status and treatment the whites and the blacks receive. It can be seen from 'First ship 'em dope and let 'em deal the brothers. Give 'em guns step back watch 'em fight each other' that suggests on why the African-Amercian community have problems with dealing social problems. It could be a conspiracy that is causing them these problems as they do illegal stuff such as trafickking [d rugs] and using violence. It was also said that they 'give the crack to the kids'. Crack here refers to [d rugs]. It may be because they needed to get paid but it will cause a continuous cycle of poverty. It shows that they are at the edge of the boundary and would even harm their own race to survive. Tupac tried to make the situation better and to convince his 'brothers' to join him. He also shared that only with the unity among the African-American can they make a change 'I got love from my brother but we can never go nowhere unless we share with each other' and 'It's time for us as a people to make changes'. He missed the old days where there were no racism between him and his friends. Despite his efforts made, nothing was changed and he realised that his personal interest could not make things change, which could be seen from 'Try to show another way but you stayin' in the dope game'.
He was disappointed and had lost hope for a better change as the African-Americans are still making a living in an immoral way. Tupac wrote this song to inform the people to 'make a change' for better good and so as to obtain peace.

Late work: 12-3=9/15
