In high school, I had the opportunity to speak in front of students, parents, and staff one day before school started. I could have said no thanks. It was a packed audience! The whole auditorium had every seat taken! There were people standing on the sides! So I initially wanted to say no, but in a split second decision, I said yes for two reasons. One, they needed an interpreter and I was the only one that could do it in that moment. Second, I knew I would not get a chance like this again. Even though I was super nervous, I was willing to mess up and try my best since this was going to change how confident I would be on stage. I love stage craft and I love leading people. So this was my cliff to dive into to my future goals. I ended up speaking in Spanish to over 300 people to help them navigate campus and know how to ask for help. I knew the campus very well as an incoming junior at the time.
