Before students left for the year they took time to do a "book tasting" - looking through and reading a bit of the new titles and writing down a summer reading list for themselves. I went into the public library a week after school got out and all the books were cleared from the display. They said they couldn't keep up with the demand! I advertise heavily for kids to bring bags the last 3 days of school and check out as many books as they would like.
I have only about 45-50 kids out of 900 that participate. Some take 20-30 books and some take 2-5. In the past 19 years, very, very few books don't come back. I consider it a huge success.]]> 2018-04-19 14:01:17 UTC https://padlet.com/debschi/v0g08offnmdc/wish/253431293 Partnering with your local public library https://padlet.com/debschi/v0g08offnmdc/wish/254057518 We had huge success last year partnering with out local public library by using their Beanstack program for summer reading.  Kids registered for their summer reading (a book of choice) and then earned badges.  Not all of the Beanstack badges they earned were reading related - some involved building or watching a how to video or answering a trivia question.
