Cameron inferred that because he stated he didn't have supper, he did not have a stable and supportive family. If he did, he would be at home eating supper with his family instead of trying to steal her purse. Also, he was grabbing her purse for money to buy blue suede shoes. If his parents were stable, they would give him the money to buy the shoes himself.

***Excellent point the symbolism of the lack of stable family structure!

The question asked "Why is Roger incapable of saying thank you at the end of the story?". Imani had a out of the box/ orginal answer. She think that Roger was incabpable of saying thank you because he was probably never raised to say thank you or he didnt have any manners. She thinks that if he was raised with manners, he wouldnt steal. This is why he didn say Thank You at the end to Mrs. Jones.

****Great point: we are a product of our environment for sure :)

Jacqulyne's thinking was that it's really upsetting, it’s not their fault their parents didn’t take good care of them, or couldn’t care for them. Also, she wouldn't change the ending because it makes people think about how this can actually happen in real life.

I agree with Jacqulyne and it's very upsetting that adults will have kids and then just leave them to fend off by themselves. I can connect what she said with my response to the same question, I answered that the story shows how important it's to show/teach generosity and empathy to kids. In most cases, when parents leave their children, the child never learns how to identify and cope with their emotions, which is why some lead to mental disorders and/or doing things me or you wouldn't do, such as stealing a purse.
