Harvard Reference: Gabriel, C. (2019, January 28). Need for a new workplace safety and health (WSH) strategy for the fourth industrial revolution. Occupational Health Clinic, National University Health System, Singapore,275-281.

Review; In the fourth industrial revolution, it is predicted that new technologies such as artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing will displace many administrative and manufacturing roles. In the German White Paper 0n re-imagining work, the federal ministry of labor and social affairs in Germany coined the term Work 4.0 to describe this changing work landscape. We need to be pro-active in developing a new strategy to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.A new workplace safety and health strategy which focused on "Total Worker Health" was proposed to integrate safety and health protection with health promotion.
The changing nature of employment therefore means that the current workplace safety and health regulations premised on workers with full-time jobs at a facility owned by the employer will become increasingly outdated. There is a need to build a strong foundation of common values such as stewardship, common good, and human dignity among all stake-holders to ensure continued occupational safety and health. Technological advancements such as social media platforms has also increased public scrutiny and the need for social accountability among companies and governments alike. The unprecedented scale and magnitude of the fourth industrial revolution demand that workplace safety and health professionals adapt quickly to safeguard the health and wellbeing of workers in this new era of work. There is a growing evidence which demonstrates a positive correlation between the health of a corporations employees and its financial performance.Workplace safety and health knowledge also evolved with the use of epidemiological and experimental methods, such as those developed by Doll and Bradford Hill, to scientifically examine casual pathways between workplace exposures and diseases.
