Based on my reading of the article given by my teacher, I can say that language portfolio is effective in establishing the whole image of progress of specific students during one semester/whole year. With the help of the language portfolio, the teacher could avoid any kind of disagreements on behalf students in regard of the grades for formative/summative assessment. In any moment, the teacher could show to the student, if any student want to see his/her works to prepare for next assessment tasks.
Answers to the questions:
1) The collaborative learning method could promote such competencies like development of communication, leadership as well as self-management skills on behalf of students. Next, through project method, there can be promoted such competences like ability to work in a group with peers/classmates for students and allowing teacher to learn more about specific student or group of students while doing the task. Lastly, by the portfolio could be promoted next competencies like developing self-esteem, observe the academic performance of each subject(see weak and strong sides of him/her in his/her formative and summative assessments).
2. Personally, the most suitable version of collaborative learning method is group work. The reason is that it helps me to discuss the specific topic from different point of view with others and come up with one idea at the end of the discussion. By group work, it usually makes the communication more smooth and there is more probability to come up with unusual ideas which would be hard while working in a pairs.
3. Monitoring and evaluation functions of a portfolio mainly will go in a long-term period while traditional approaches in a short-term period. Exactly, monitoring and evaluation functions of a portfolio depicts the illustration of a student's performances on group task, project work, essays, evaluations to these work on behalf of a teacher.

1. Which competencies can be promoted by the collaborative learning method, the project method, and the portfolio?

In cooperative learning, the student develops the skills of social interaction with partners, since the final result depends entirely on the level of efficiency of work in the group. In addition, the competence of the student's responsibility to their comrades and the teacher/moderator comes to the fore.
In the project method, abilities such as solving problems in the context of real life are realized, since the end result must be applicable and practical. As well as the independence of the student in reasoning, finding solutions to the problem, applying various kinds of knowledge; time-management.
What about the portfolio - again, the independence and responsibility of the individual, as well as organization and the ability to self-determine the direction of their work.

2. Which version of the collaborative learning method is most acceptable to you? Support your answer.

I prefer the small group discussion method for several reasons.
1) Students learn to express their thoughts and opinions so that their group partners can understand what is being said, trying to properly structure their sentences and follow grammatical rules.
2) They listen to the words of their comrades, their feelings, thereby expanding their worldview, and seeing one concept from different angles and points of view.
3) In addition, they learn to conduct a correct conversation in terms of how to politely express their disagreement with the voiced thought, interrupt the speaker to add details, ask a question correctly chosen in context and grammar, and so on.

3. Monitoring and evaluation functions of a portfolio vs. traditional approaches?

Monitoring student performance in relation to their portfolio is critical for a teacher as there are several important aspects. Of course, students themselves determine the direction and attach documents depending on their individual experience, however, the teacher should give specific and understandable instructions on which documents may be acceptable and which should not be apllied. Therefore, it is worth arranging sessions from time to time to check the progress of students.
In using their portfolio, students can be encouraged to self-assess and peer-assess their work and this will help them to further develop as an independent language learner and user.

Which competencies can be promoted by the collaborative learning method, the project method, and the portfolio?

Both three methods help students develop communication, organizational, active listening skills and decision-making. This methods can also provide the ability to assess themselves and share their experience among learners. An unusual approach to learning increases the motivation of students, so they will be interested in achieving new goals.
In addition, students may develop a competitive spirit, as they want to stand out from peers. In the portfolio, students will collect as many achievements and materials as possible to show what they are capable of.

2. Which version of the collaborative learning method is most acceptable to you? Support your answer.
In my opinion, jigsaw looks more efficient. Different groups in the class have different topics that they must not only explain to each other, but also understand. Teacher can divide responsibilities of note-taker, speaker and etc among groups, so each learner will take part in a group work. This will help students develop speaking, listening and writing skills. In addition, in a short period of time they should master their topic and undertsand the topics of other groups. The concentration of students will be increased. However, it seems to me that this method is better used for middle and high schools. It will be difficult for younger students to master such a volume of information in one lesson.
3. Monitoring and evaluation functions of a portfolio vs. traditional approaches?
In traditional approaches, only the teacher evaluates the work of the student. Not only the teacher, but the parents and the student himself take part in the portfolio.
In portfolio, the student can see what he has achieved and what he needs to correct for further development in learning a foreign language. The portfolio allows students to share not only the results of tests or exams, but also to show what films in a foreign language they watched, which camp they visited, and so on. Unlike the traditional approach, the portfolio method gives students freedom of choice. He can decide what information to put in his portfolio and arrange it in his own way, of course with the help of the teacher and parents.
Monitoring students is easier through a portfolio, since all information about them is included in one folder. Designate a place to store portfolios at school so as not to lose the contents. If students are allowed to keep their portfolio at home, they will often forget it or even lose it. In this case, the student will lag behind the rest and monitoring his learning process will be difficult.

1) Ways in which collaborative learning enhances such competencies:
Strengthening interdependence and trust: Students are given the opportunity to identify their strengths in communication, thereby creating interdependence between them. Sharing: Students learn how best to share so they can integrate their knowledge. As well as teamwork and joint creation of one idea.
I assume that, just like the method of collaborative learning in the project method, their competencies will be: self-confidence, social responsibility, teamwork and the exchange of ideas.
In the portfolio, students demonstrate progress in learning, independent language learning or self-control and self-assessment.

2) For a collaborative learning method, a pair or group discussion is a good option. Where all students collect their knowledge or ideas on one topic and share them with other students. In addition, students can get new ideas from each other and listen to each other without interruption.
3) In the portfolio, students can evaluate each other by observing each other during group work, or by working with pairs. During the traditional format, students were evaluated only by the teacher.

1. Which competencies can be promoted by the collaborative learning method, the project method, and the portfolio?

Social and cooperative skills are cultivated as the students listen critically to each other, work to involve all participants, and negotiate meaning together.
Collaborative learning method actively engages learners to process and synthesize information and concepts, rather than using rote memorization of facts and figures.
The project method is a teacher-facilitated collaborative approach in which students acquire and apply knowledge and skills to define and solve realistic problems using a process of extended inquiry. Projects are student-centered, following standards, parameters, and milestones clearly identified by the instructor.
As well as developing your language proficiency, building up a language portfolio will help you to develop the key skills of senior cycle. These skills will help you during your time in school and into the future, when participating in society, including family life, the world of work and lifelong learning.

2. Which version of the collaborative learning method is most acceptable to you? Support your answer.
I think solving problem across team method is more good in class because group work that promote collaboration are five times as likely to perform to a higher standard than those that don’t. Also, there 7 ways to get the most from teams work
1. Create a dedicated space for team collaboration
2. Be open to different viewpoints
3. Break the problem down into digestible portions
4. Build on each other’s ideas
5. Share encouragement and support
6. Foster peer-to-peer development and growth
7. Help overcome personality conflicts and divergent viewpoints

3. Monitoring and evaluation functions of a portfolio vs. traditional approaches?
I think nowadays for children monitoring and evaluation is very important than the material which we give, so I think that portfolio assessment is good . But, portfolio assessment can be useful or not useful for some students:
PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT IS MOST USEFUL FOR:

*Evaluating programs that have flexible or individualized goals or outcomes. For example, within a program with the general purpose of enhancing children's social skills, some individual children may need to become less aggressive while other shy children may need to become more assertive.

*Each child's portfolio asseessment would be geared to his or her individual needs and goals.

*Allowing individuals and programs in the community (those being evaluated) to be involved in their own change and decisions to change.

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT IS NOT AS USEFUL FOR:

*Evaluating programs that have very concrete, uniform goals or purposes. For example, it would be unneccessary to compile a portfolio of individualized "evidence" in a program whose sole purpose is full immunization of all children in a community by the age of five years. The required immunizations are the same, and the evidence is generally clear and straightforward.

*Allowing you to rank participants or programs in a quantitative or standardized way (although evaluators or program staff may be able to make subjective judgements of relative merit).

*Comparing participants or programs to standardized norms. While portfolios can (and often do) include some standardized test scores along with other kinds of "evidence", this is not the main purpose of the portfolio.

1) Which competencies can be promoted by the collaborative learning method, the project method, and the portfolio?
2)Which version of the collaborative learning method is most acceptable to you? Support your answer.
3)Monitoring and evaluation functions of a portfolio vs. traditional approaches?

1)I think that all these methods are primarily aimed at developing the independence of the student. Nowadays, this is the most necessary skill. For example, thanks to the method of collaborativ and random distribution, children adapt to work in different groups. Also with the portfolio method, where students independently review their achievements and can set goals for themselves based on the achievements achieved.
2) I think that groups of 4-5 students are an acceptable method in a cooperative method, why, because when there are not so few and not so many children in a group, children can be more comfortable, especially if there are students who find it difficult to establish relationships with peers. How can this help students become social when there are very few children in the group, introverted children can detach from excessive attention, and when there are too many children, they can again remain unnoticeable. I also prefer random methods of dividing into groups, since such methods are very interesting and children learn to adapt to work in different groups and be independent.
3) In the traditional format, teachers were responsible for all types of documentation, even for those for which parents should have been responsible. But in an innovative format, the student himself monitors his achievements, thanks to this, the student develops self-reliance skills and the ability to plan and set goals. In addition, the student has the opportunity to view not only his achievements, but also the materials that he passed during the passage of certain goals. Skills of self-selection and drawing up subsequent goals, what he wants to go through and what he wants to add to his portfolio, for example, methods or methods for both films and muotfilms.
