She was the daughter of a teacher and a minster

Hannie went to the university of Amsterdam in 1938 to pursue a law degree

she was quiet student at school but at home she was talkative

she was a redhead which help lead to what she is now called "the girl with the red hair"

The oversteegen sisters

the sisters were raised by their mother alone

they had a stepbrother

the mother was divorced

the mother was active in a Communist party

The sisters had a hard time getting along sometimes like most sisters but they would still do what was best

Freddie was a girlys girl,while Truus was a tomboy like girl.

Before the war the girls ran a underground newsletter called  the Trouw (The Faith), an underground and illegal newspaper that reported on the transgressions of their German occupiers.

They were born in the village of Schoten, Netherlands.

They were young when they had to fight,one was 16 and the other was around 14 years of age.

The girls and hannie met at a hospital in Harlem and became best friends right away and started doing mission together.

Hannie had started writing articles in the university paper criticizing the segregation of Jewish students and teachers, who were later banned from campus. She love to help make changes to all that was wrong in the world.like her many others did the same.

hannie went so far to protect people that she learnt German so she can talk or in other words fool the German soldiers.

Hannie was asked to kidnap children from the Nazi but refused.

She carried out attacks on Germans, Dutch Nazis, collaborators and traitors as well as the oversteegen sisters.

Hannie was so “deadly” Adolf himself asked for her to be captured.

The sisters and hannie would use dynamite to disable bridges and railroad tracks. They also would smuggle Jewish children out of the country or help them escape concentration camps.

Freddie oversteegen is most famous for as some say she was the first to shoot a nazi.which also made Truus Menger-Oversteegen story get overlooked.

hannie died like this: one of the officers fires his gun at the back of her head. The bullet bounces off her skull and doesn't kill her. The other officer then shoots her, also in the back of the head, this time at closer range still not killing her. she replied with "i can shoot better than that" which made them shoot her dead and bury her body unfortunately.

the oversteegen sisters didn't die until they were around 90 years of aged and lived on to tell hannies and their story.

in 1940

before in 1938 was when hannie went to college and the oversteegen were just in high school

hannie was called about 18 days before the war ended.

the ran in a resistance group and also would sometimes work underground. they would travel through train stations and more to get to their destination.the girls love their hometown which is why hannie statue is located nearby. the sisters stayed in the Netherlands until their deaths

hannie learnt German so she could talk to the soldiers.

most times the girls would hide and bushes and forests to shoot the men.other times the would disguise themselves.the girls don't go into dept about how the got the dynamites for them to blow up the trains but they would sneak in when no one was there to do so sometimes.

her legacy was carried by her best friends,they created an organization dedicated to her which is raising awareness regarding the dangers of extremism and racism. hannies body was moved to the honorary cemetery Erebegraafplaats Bloemendaal in the dunes in Overseen in the presence of Princess Juliana and her husband Prince Bernard.

they also created a statue for her near her birthplace

it showed her splitting a wall apart which represented her breaking barriers of discrimination and more.

the oversteegen sisters were rewarded awarded the Mobilisation War Cross by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for their acts of resistance during the war.

their mom was a part of a communist group.they would do things like shelter people.the sisters would even give up their bed so when a man came with an offer for the girls their mom agreed.
