Beautiful Boy - David Sheff

Currently, I am reading a book called “Beautiful Boy” written by David Sheff. It is, unironically, a beautifully written book. The story follows a father stuck in the crossfire of his son, Nic, and his his meth addiction. Unlike most stories that tell the tale of a tragic addiction, this book brings realism to a topic that is improbable for most. For people who have been through this disease, like my mother said, “it brings me back to memories I’ve pushed down”.

Because it isn’t a fictional story, there is a natural undertone of truth within every word that draws readers in more than sentences processed through the brain ever could. It reads as if the emotion pour out of Sheff, dripping from his fingertips, and yet to someone who hasn’t experienced similar situations, it will seem foreign. The concepts will seem hard to understand, difficult to process, and yet, there is no one that his book won’t touch.

The honesty in every part of this story makes even people like me, people who have been there - done that everything in this book, blink before reading the line over again. The way Nic changes, back and forth, over and over again makes you sad, angry, happy and disappointed every time. You feel for every character in every chapter, which pulls your heart-strings in every imaginable direction. Although the book is an array of emotions, some making you want to stop the road into every page, you’ll never put it down. I promise.

Hunting El Chapo is a book that will keep you on your toes from the beginning. This book is about a DEA agents experience when in Mexico hunting for the world's most wanted criminal; El Chapo. I would recommend reading this book because it is jam packed with action and suspense. The author also does a great job of talking about Drug Trafficking in the 80’s and 90’s, so you understand how all the cartels started. This background information helps readers understand why the U.S. is so invested into the war against 🤬 making the book more enjoyable. The one thing I disliked about this book was the fact that there was so much paperwork and legal items that were part of the hunt that it was hard to know what they were talking about. Other than that this book was one of the best I have read, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading books that are impossible to put down.

Brayden Sanders Hour 1

Seal team six, was very dramatic from start to finish. It first started out with a child just going to school and then getting in the middle of a gunfight and getting shot. That really made it seem like it was going to be very dramatic and it made you be glued to the book and i like that because it's hard to get glued to a book. About one quarter into the book he starts talking about his childhood and about how he was beat as a kid and that was really emotional and it made me want to read the whole entire book without stopping.halfway in he goes on a mission to somalia and he saw things happen to kids that happened to him. What make the book really good is all of the action and the emotional parts and it makes a good balance.

As a Minnesota sports fan myself, this book has all the stories of many Minnesotans favorite players that grew up aspiring to be. Including Tyus Jones from The Minnesota Timberwolves and Adam Thielen the Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver. It also includes women athletes, like Lindsay Whalen the Gopher women's basketball coach and former Lynx player. Although, this book didn’t include all athletes to come out of Minnesota it still gives a good example of some that did. This book tells the rise to greatness of different Minnesota Made Athletes and it is to be enjoyed by everyone.

Nolan Kemp Hour 4

Hey Kiddo is a great book when you break it down and understand it. It has a ton of darkness in the book that you have to put aside in order to see the good come out of the book. I like this book because it has a lot of depth to it. This story surprisingly has a lot of profanity and the use of 🤬. I would suggest that you be mature enough to read this book. This book is neat in how it is a story of the boys life growing up. He has struggled through many hardships. His mother being in trouble, living with his grandparents, to making new friends, etc… The boy has overcome a lot through his life to get where he is know. It's a great book and I would suggest anyone to read this book.

This is a really interesting book and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The whole book is 305 pages and it’s a one minute elevator ride.

Basically, a kid named Will and his older brother Shawn who live on the sketchy part of town. Where gangs rome everywhere and you have to be worried about whether you can go out of your house or not. At the beginning of the book (Kind of a spoiler but not too big) Shawn gets shot in the street and is left there dead. Will being just a kid is devastated and when he gets home he doesn’t know what to do. All that he knows at this point is that he has to follow the rules his brother taught him. They might not have been in this order but they went something like dont snitch, don't cry and get revenge on the person who killed them. Next, Will is looking through Shawns stuff and spots a gun in his drawer. Will wonder what he needed that for, and when he looks in the clip there are fifteen out of sixteen bullets. He starts to freak out and at this point I'm wondering, what's he gonna do? He starts to think about who could have killed Shawn. Then, the next thing I know he's putting the gun in his waist and heading for the elevator.

This is where the story starts to get interesting. The elevator starts to go down floor by floor but it seems to be really slow and one floor down someone walks in. Will doesn't recognize the person, but then they start to talk and he realizes who it is. Will thinks to himself, they’re dead though. Then every floor down a new person from his life walks in. All of them are dead and they talk to him one by one until the next floor, when a new person walks in.

It's a really interesting book and it’s a short read. I would recommend reading this book.

He became a young soldier for his government to try and overthrow the attacking rebellion. In the book we get to experience what Ishmael went through in a high detail format. This book really made me think about what others are going through and how good I have it in life.

A Long way gone starts off at normal pace and begins to pick up after a few chapters, the actions seems to slowly increase and then suddenly hit and drop multiple times throughout his story. The use of figurative language enhances the feeling of the text by a long shot. Throughout the book Ishmael experiences addiction, mental state changes and some injuries. We also get to see how Ishmael recovers from these setbacks that his life has brought him.

I recommend this book to all who like to read autobiographies and are intrigued by how people lives can change super quickly, and by the reader who is interested in the hardships of war. The main character throughout the book was Ishmael Beah. He was very brave when his life got turned upside down in his crazy world or war an violence.

This book takes place in Africa during which the rebels were building their army and growing stronger. Conflict and tensions were building up where Ishmael lived. The book goes through his journey throughout the war. He meets various people, some who become his life long friends.

My favorite part about the book was finding out that it was an autobiography. The fact that he actually lived this and he was actually living through the events in the book, is astonishing. The true message that I got from this book is that he didn’t dwell on the past. He kept searching for a better life and for a better future other than the violent one he was living as a child.
