My favourite spring tradition is Hamani. Hanami is a traditional Japanese tradition of enjoying the pink and mesmerising cherry blossom trees blossoming. People gather with friends, family, or coworkers to have picnics, eat, drink, and sing under the cherry blossom trees. It usually starts in early spring, around March but it depends on the region because in other places, it can start around May. We celebrate this tradition because it's a beautiful reminder to appreciate the beauty of life, as the blossoms only last for a week or two before falling. At night, the trees are way more amazing to view. Viewing the cherry blossoms at night is called Yozakura, which often involves lighting up the trees with lanterns. I really love this tradition and i put it as my favourite spring tradition because it brings together families, friends, and even coworkers to bond, enjoying the nature.

In my country, people celebrate Easter and Women's Day during spring. My favorite is Easter, because we remember the huge sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which I find very important for us to remember. For this, we prepare certain traditional dishes that revolve around lamb meat, which is associated with purity and sacrifice.

My favourite Easter tradition is decorating Paschal eggs (Pysanky) originating from Eastern Europe. This is where people dye boiled eggs red, my family does this with onion skin, which symbolizes the blood of Jesus Christ when he was crucified on the cross. People also decorate these eggs in vibrant colours and patterns and people mostly use these eggs for egg hunts for children, in games like egg rolling, as treats in salads and also as a festive decoration. I love this tradition because it gives me a chance to have fun and spend time with my family. (Image gotten from https://www.pexels.com/)

Hi! I'm Noah and this is how we celebrate Easter in romania :

Easter is one of the most important holidays in Romania. For me, it is a very beautiful time when the family gathers and we spend time together. On Saturday night we go to church for the Resurrection service and receive light, and people greet each other by saying “Christ has risen!”, with the reply “Truly He has risen!”.

I also really like the traditions. Before Easter we dye eggs, usually red, and on Easter day we tap them together at the table. There are many traditional foods on the table, such as cozonac and pasca. For me, Easter is a holiday full of joy, traditions, and moments spent with family. 😊

After the carnival holidays, Spring comes by and the weather in malta becomes more beautiful and warmer each time. The flowers will open, and a lot of different types of flowers makes the maltese fields more pretty. What i enjoy the most is going for a walk with my twin sister in the narrow roads which are surrounded by nature. The weather of spring in Malta is one of the most comfortable tempretures you'll ever find, becuase you arent too cold and neither too hot. It is the kind of weather which you can make bunch of memories with your family, relatives and friends! What i love also is that in easter we have this traditonal type of pastry which is called figolli. In easter my grandmother makes figolli and she makes one for each of us both as her grandkids but also her kids and children in law. We have so many cultural celebrations during easter and it is so fun to see some of the village's plays which demonstrates when Jesus was crucified.

One of the most popular traditions of Easter in Bulgaria is egg tapping. Each person chooses a painted egg and tries to crack the other person’s egg by hitting the top. The winner is the one whose egg remains unbroken, and it is believed they will be the healthiest throughout the year. This tradition is done with lots of laughter and joy, especially during family gatherings. It symbolizes the victory of life over death.

On the Thursday or Saturday before Easter, families dye eggs, with the first egg traditionally colored red for health and protection. On Easter night, people attend church services and light candles, symbolizing the victory of life over death. At midnight, they greet each other with “Christ is risen!” and respond “Indeed He is risen!”. A special ritual is the egg tapping game, where people try to crack each other’s eggs, and the winner is believed to have good luck. Traditional foods include sweet Easter bread called kozunak and roasted lamb. The celebration continues for several days with family gatherings, joy, and festive meals.

Hi friends, Mimi here! I want to tell you about how we celebrate Easter here. It's one of the most important religions holidays and personally my favorite 😊! Here it's all about the Jesus rising on the third day and here it's common to fast 40 days before Easter and on Easter day it's a tradition to eat lamb. Also we can't skip the iconic painted eggs and kozunak with is like a sweet bread with dried fruits or chocolate. We go to Church the night before and when it hits 00:00 the pope gives everyone that is there the "blessed fire" with is known for its eternity!

We give little charms with red and white strings to girls and women to bring them good luck and joy. I love when the snowdrops (ghiocei) appear in the garden because it means the cold winter is finally gone. For Easter, my favorite part is helping my mom set the table with beautiful plates and waiting to see what chocolate the Easter Bunny brought me!

My absolute favorite tradition for Easter in Romania is the egg tapping game. We dye boiled eggs in bright colors, especially red, and hit them against each other. The person hits the egg and says "Hristos a înviat" (Christ is risen) and the other replies "Adevărat a înviat" (He is truly risen). I always try to inspect the eggs and pick the strongest one so I can win against my dad and my sister!

It is a big name day for everyone who has a flower name. On this day, we go to church and get willow branches (salcie). We bring them home and put them at the windows or above our icons to protect our house from bad weather. Then, for Easter, we usually have a big barbecue outside with all our relatives.

I am Alisa. For me, the first true sign of spring isn't just the warmer weather, it's the huge 'spring cleaning' we do in our house and yard! After a long, cold winter, my whole family works together. We wash the windows to let the bright sunshine in, pack away our heavy winter coats, and sweep up the old, dry branches from the garden to make room for the new grass. Everything must be perfect, fresh, and sparkling clean before the Easter holidays. It is hard work, but the house smells so good and fresh afterwards! There is also a very special tradition here: on Easter Sunday, you should wear at least one brand new piece of clothing. After months of wearing dark winter clothes, putting on a bright new dress or a colorful spring shirt feels amazing! We do this to celebrate the resurrection and to symbolize a fresh start. It makes the day feel incredibly festive and reminds us that spring is a beautiful time for new beginnings.

The boys go to the girls' houses and spray them with perfume. It is called "stropit" (watering). We say a short funny poem and spray the perfume so the girls will be beautiful and "bloom" like spring flowers all year. In return, the girls give us red painted eggs and sweet cakes.

In Greece we have a lot of traditions for Easter.

To begin with, on Holy Thursday we dye some eggs red. The red color symbolises Christ's blood and when we crack the eggs with our friends or relatives, it symbolises the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Furthermore, on Good Friday, we decorate the Epitaph with colorful flowers and at night, we accompany the Epitaph around the city holding candles.

In addition, on Holy Saturday, at midnight "Christ is risen", and there is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, that i told you before. Also, this is when we light up our Easter candles, that our godmother brought us, and we crack eggs.

And last but definitely not least, on Easter Sunday, we visit our relatives and roast lamb to eat. It's super yummy! And on this day is when the fasting ends.

To sum it up, the Holy Week is a really important week for Christians, because "Christ is risen". Obviously we attend church services every day. We also do fasting for 40 days straight from Clean Monday until Holy Saturday, night.

That's all mates i hope you enjoyed learning about our culture!!!

Dimitris Pallakis

Greeece-Orestiada

Easter in Greece is the most important religious and cultural celebration of the year. Preparations begin with Lent, a 40-day fasting period marked by reflection and simpler meals. The highlight is Holy Week, when churches hold daily services and communities come together. On Good Friday, the solemn Epitaphios procession fills the streets with candlelight and quiet reverence.

The atmosphere transforms on Holy Saturday at midnight. As the priest announces the Resurrection, people light candles from the Holy Flame and celebrate with fireworks, bells, and joyful greetings of “Christos Anesti.” Families then gather to break their fast with traditional dishes like magiritsa soup.

Easter Sunday is a festive day centered on food, music, and togetherness. Lamb is roasted, red eggs are cracked for luck, and loved ones celebrate outdoors. Across Greece, local customs add unique touches, making Easter a powerful blend of faith, tradition, and community spirit.

Hi! My name is Eleni and I am from Greece. I would like to describe how people celebrate Easter in my country.

To begin with, Easter is the most important religious celebration in Greece. It is a special period when families come together and share time with each other. In my view, it is one of the most meaningful and enjoyable holidays of the year.

During Holy Week, there are many traditions and customs. First of all, on Maundy Thursday, we dye eggs red, which symbolizes the blood of Christ. At the same time, we bake traditional bread called tsoureki and prepare various sweets. Then, on Good Friday, people go to church to follow the procession of the Epitaph, which creates a very emotional atmosphere.

Furthermore, on Holy Saturday evening, people attend the Resurrection service at church. Just before midnight, everyone holds a candle. At midnight, the priest announces “Christ has risen” and the people reply “Truly He has risen”. After that, families take the Holy Light home and often make the sign of the cross above their door for good luck.

On Easter Sunday, families gather together in order to celebrate. They usually eat roasted lamb and traditional dishes such as magiritsa. In addition, people play the traditional game with red eggs, while others enjoy music, dancing, and spending time outdoors.

All in all, Easter in Greece is not only a religious celebration but also an important cultural tradition. It brings people closer and reminds them of the value of love, hope, and unity. For this reason, it is my favorite holiday of the year.

Stelios, Orestiada,Greece

In Greece, dyeing Easter eggs is a meaningful tradition of Greek Orthodox Christianity that usually takes place on Holy Thursday. The eggs are first washed and then carefully placed in a pot of water with red dye, which symbolizes the blood of Christ and the promise of new life.Once they are boiled and colored, they are left to dry and often polished with oil to give them a shine. On Easter night and Sunday, people play a game called “egg cracking” (τσούγκρισμα), where each person taps their red egg against another’s while saying “Christos Anesti” (“Christ is risen”) the one whose egg remains unbroken is considered lucky, and the cracking itself symbolizes the breaking open of Christ’s tomb and His resurrection.

Sure, religion and food might be a bit different, but when it comes to traditions, it’s practically the same.

we have a lot of customs in Greece but my favorite one by far is breaking the red eggs. I always like when we paint the eggs and I dont really like when we get them painted i like it whe we paint them. also it's always funny and silly while we try to find the strongest egg. in the end we eat them and the winner and most unbreakable egg gets the reward of being eaten last.
