A: What is the problem and what are the root causes of the problem

The main problem with Venezuela currently is that their government is not getting enough money for food and medical supplies needed for life. One reason why the money shortage is happening is because the main oil company in Venezuela PDVSA is not producing as much oil as they need to support the government. Almost 2 million Venezuelans had to leave the country from 1999 to today. The Venezuelan government has not been able to restock necessities such as food, and medical supplies due to money shortages. By 2019, Venezuela is expected to have 10,000,000 percent inflation! A dozen eggs in Venezuela could cost you 1,500 Bolivars or 150 USD. 150 dollars for 12 eggs!! That's how much inflation has occurred in Venezuela. That is just one of many problems that are currently occurring in Venezuela.

B: How has the problem affected the community directly.

The problem has affected the community directly because Hugo Chavez was inspired by former leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro. Hugo Chavez tried to turn Venezuela into an "Anti-American" country during his 14 years as president of Venezuela (1999 - 2013). The country is suffering greatly due to the hyperinflation which is occurring due to the lack of production from the oil company and the lack of food and medical supplies. As of 2016, according to CNN "32.5% of Venezuelan citizens reported eating 2 or less meals a day." That is a little more 1/3 of the 31 million people how live in Venezuela. We could talk to Russia, China, and Iran about limiting their engagement with Maduro and Venezuela.

The rest if the world should care about this because thousands of Venezuelans are coming to America in search of food, stable/safe place to live, and a stable government. They are coming to America because there oil company PDVSA has dropped their oil production massively which is hyper inflating everything in the country. One of many things that are being hyper-inflated are food items such as eggs. Eggs now cost people in Venezuela 1,500 Bolivars or 150 USD, these people in Venezuela are paying 150 dollars for a dozen eggs!! Venezuela relies mostly on their oil company NDVSA for money so they can keep their country stable but since their production has stopped, prices have sky-rocketed on almost everything in the country. Now, Venezuela is low on lots of essentials needed for life such as food, and medical supplies. That is why many families are coming to America so they can start a new life.

The Venezuelan oil company PDVSA is currently preparing a bond for 950 million dollars in 2020. USA has already provided 12 million dollars to U.N. refugee efforts. 70,000 Venezuelans have left Venezuela and have had to seek asylum in America. The U.N. refugee agency has raised around 23 million dollars for Venezuelan operations. The current president of Venezuela, Maduro is thinking about writing a new constitution which will cause the people of Venezuela to protest even more because the people of Venezuela do not believe in the same things that Maduro believes in. They could also make fair elections so that the current president so that the people could pick who they want to rule Venezuela.

Dear Diary, September 14, 2018

We have been on the road for 2 weeks now and we are found these nice people who let us hitch hike to somewhere near the Ecuador boarder. There was a total of 11 Venezuelans trying to get out of the country on that truck. Before we found that nice person who let us hitch hike, we were walking through the mountains right outside Columbia and we found this family who gave us food, water, and a place to stay over the night. But, now that we are right outside the Ecuador border, I am not sure we will be able to find anybody that will let us into their house. I am scared for my children who are 3 and 4 years old. I m not sure that they can handle the long days of walking 30-40 miles without stopping. One thing's for sure, once we get to America, we will be able to live happily and won't have to worry about not having enough food stamps for foos. I can't wait until we get to the America.
