Thorne, too, grew up with bruised elbows, hollow eyes, and tattered clothing. He saw the vampires from afar, always from afar. Their grace, beauty, wealth, immortality.

Instead of seeing an enemy, Thorne saw a goal. Hypnotized by eyes of every color and dangerous fangs, he decided.

I will be like them one day.

Thorne became a day servant as soon as he was able. He had no desire to learn machinery from his father, to work thankless, long hours in the dark engine rooms of the Coil.

His family disapproved, but Thorne decided long ago that he had outgrown his family and their way of living. He had his sights on somewhere far more grandoise.

That was where he found his master. Judanian, one of the more kind species of vampire. Thorne gladly offered his throat, his wrist, whatever his master needed.

And in return?

Ecstasy.

Thorne is smitten. He is entirely in love, and will do whatever it takes to make his master happy, all with the hopes of being turned into one of them someday--a vampire. And he shall stop at nothing until he does.

Thorne will do anything for the promise of immortality. Even if it means betraying humanity. Even if it means betraying his own family.

He refuses to rot.
