One significant connection I made was the significant/visible markings/scarring from a previous event on people occurring in the Yaw chapter and the Ness chapter. Ness has scars from her previous plantation owner who beat her harshly, and Yaw has his prominent marking on his face from the accidental burning done by his mother, Akua (otherwise known as the crazy woman). This is connection is significant because it these prominent markings both follow each character in a way that brings them unwanted attention (sometimes negative, sometimes just plain disbelief/shock).

-One connection I've been able to see from the Chapter, "Yaw", would be the same motif of a local community, person, or tribe pushing the efforts of marriage. In other parts where you would see this connection would be the chapter, "Abena", where her and Yaw share the same level connection of where people encourage and shame to not be married. However, there might be two different interpretations of this connection, it all rounds back to the idea of keeping on the tradition of this marriage which could limit ones purpose. This is significant as, it would show by this bound by people would expect one would follow the same tradition and would solely bind these people to a one singular option.

This permanent scar as a motif of unescapable, generational trauma that affected African lineages on either side of the slave trade has been shown throught the novel. Yaw being in the hut which burnt down was an unfortuante happening - out of his control. Scars also play a large role in Ness' chapter.
