The Vouge February cover represents a challenge to the Eurocentric fashion gaze, which has been stereotyping Africa as a continent in need of charity and lacking creative autonomy. Vogue has managed to shift this stereotype by creating this all black, all African Vogue cover.

The use of tone in this cover is dark which gives a monochrome look. The use of blue neutralises the boldness and the extreme use of "black" on the models and background. The mood conveyed in this cover is powerful, bold and it was achieved by the uses of very dark undertones, dim lighting, the models themselves, overall the use of "black" on the whole Vogue Cover.

VOGUE MARCH COVER

As we all know March is a month when women are celebrated. Vogue used a strong, black well-known and loved model [Naomi Campbell]. The tones are not too loud yet neutral. Their colour scheme is a play on warm and cool colours. The black is not over powering compared to the February cover.
The hints of black on her clothes and the natural hair has symbolism. The use of black in the clothing gives off this strong feel of independencey, boldness and even the rigid manner she is posing symbolises that she is powerful and a "superwoman".

The mood conveyed in this cover is "being a mother" but I feel like Vogue never captured the true essence of being a mom. Vogue has sort of glamorised motherhood. Of course being a mother is "superpower" and she is a superwoman this was not achieved in this cover. Reasons being her posture is too rigid and zero connection with her daughter, this is not how a mother would normally hold her child. In other words it's not natural and giving off that coddling and loving feeling between mother and child. This cover is not displaying to the viewer that she is a mother and loving it.

Despite the back lash from society when they saw this Vogue February cover, it's my personal favourite. After deep diving what the photographer's purpose and vision was, it literally all made sense and it was the most beautiful work I've ever seen.

This first all black, all African Vogue cover captures the true essence of a BLACK South Sudan idealogy of women, in sense of their rich melanin skin. The colour black represents boldness, power. It's powering seeing black women in the fore front cover of a fashion magazine, in an industry dominanted by white people. Black beautiful women are now in the centre of it all. The fact that they also glamourise "black beauty" where as before they didn't even look at black skin and black people.

I took a street view with a filter called Noir, with very low lighting as the sun was setting. This created a high tonal contrast in terms of; the difference in brightness between the elements of the image. Where as the part where the sun isn't shining is very dark and where the sun shines it's light thus creating tonal contrast. Each building has its own tonal value because is the lighting and also the how the building are structured.

Low tonal contrast adds contrast to the shadows in the image taken. This image was taken in an ice cream shop, using the black and white filter which creates the low tonal contrast. Each ice cream flavour has its own colour and also tonal contrast or value. Where chocolate flavour will be darker and vanilla flavour will be lighter because of their tonal values and their colours. Some other flovours have syrups or tops which give it their dark undertones and giving it a dark and light appearance.

Rough and smooth contrast is a form of textural contrast. There are 2 different types of textural contrast found in this imagine one being rough the other smooth. I'll first talk about the rough textural contrast found in this image; the pebbles and the statues. The statues are made up of Bronze, due to it being outside exposed to all sorts of weather the bronze tends to also errode which gives it that bummpy textural rough feel. The pebbles also have a rough feel since they are all clustered in one place. The smooth textural contrast is created by the fencing and the white paint on it. The paint gives it that smooth contrast and feel. Both rough and smooth textural contrast co-existing with each other makes the picture balance.

This image was taken at Sea Point on a sunny day. The colour scheme is more of your neutral tones, natural tones. From the beach sand to the mountain. The colour contrast here is divided by the white buildings which gives it this effect of foreground and background. If it was sand through out leading to the mountain there wouldn't be any foreground and background contrast. The clear blue sky also makes the image not boring and neutral but it makes the background pop to the viewer.

Playing arcade games is very fun especially if you want to wake up your inner child. Arcades are usually dark and dull and the bright lights and buttons are the ones that make it more vibrant and add colour to the whole place.

Geometric contrast involves man-made objects, examples of geometric things are straight lines, circles triangles etc. This building is an example of a geometric contrast because of how everything is straight and there are no curves, it's just lines no inorganic shapes nor objects were incorporated in the making of this building.
