The last quote never fails to touch my heart.

Age/ Audience: The Polar Express is a holiday book about Christmas and believing in Santa Claus and the North Pole. Children who like the Holidays, trains, magic and fun journeys would really enjoy reading this. This book would be appropriate for students in Kindergarten through Second Grade and anyone who is young at heart.

Possible Teaching Points: If students are learning about different holidays that are celebrated, this would be a great book to explain about Christmas traditions. Many children around the world who celebrate Christmas also believe in Santa Claus. It also includes pictures of Christmas decorations such as the Christmas Tree. It could be a nice resource for that purpose.

It is one of my new favorites.

Age/ Audience: The biggest part of this book is about family, therefore, any student who is interested in family or caring for others would love this book. Nana Upstairs & Nana Downstairs would be a great book for Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students.

Possible Teaching Points: This book has two possible teaching points. First, it shows that family is important and we should appreciate the people in our lives. Second, it would be a nice book for students who have experienced loss. The book shows that it is okay to be sad about loss. It also says that you can talk to an adult you trust about it if you need to.

While the main story line ends sadly, the ending made up for it.

Age/ Audience:
Someday a Tree would be a good book for Kindergarten through Second Grade students to read. It would be a good choice for children who like nature, being outside, or taking care of the environment.

Possible Teaching Points:
This book would be great to read to a class when they are learning about pollution and the environment. This story shows the consequences of improperly disposing of chemicals and how it can lead to the death of plants, in this case, a tree. Another lesson it teaches is that pollution can affect anyone.

Kids who like history, cave people, animals or pre-historic type stories would love this book.

Possible Teaching Points:
This would be a great book to read to a class who is learning about the pre-historic era. It might also be a good introduction to evolution. For example, you had wolves who started living with humans like Paleowolf in The First Dog.
