In 1765, The king promised for £40, the price he had Paid, Equiano could buy his freedom. 
When he was about 11 he was kidnapped and after six months of captivity he was brought to the coast where he encountered white men for the first time  time in his life.
After two weeks stay in the West Indies Equiano was sent to the English colony of Virginia. In 1754 he was purchased by captain Henry pascal , a British naval officer.He was give the new name of Gustavus vassal and
 he was brought back to England.
In 1757 until 1762 he became a slave to the Navy Captain - captain
 pascal met Richard and he was the boy on the ship who helped him read.
