Students learn that some bees (especially solitary bees) need safe places to lay their eggs, and humans can help create habitats for them.

How to Make It

1. Discuss Bees First (5–10 min)
   Ask students:

   • Why are bees important?

   • What do they help plants do? (pollination)

2. Build the Hotel

   • Fill the can or box tightly with bamboo, straws, and sticks.

   • Make sure the holes are small tunnels where bees can enter.

   • Decorate the outside (not the inside holes).

3. Place the Hotel

   • Hang it on a wall, fence, or tree in a sunny spot.

   • Make sure the opening faces outward.

4. Observation
   Students check the hotel over the next few weeks to see if bees visit.

Hunt for materials that can be found in nature and write their properties.

Using only natural materials that can be found outside, create a landing mat for an egg to protect it from breaking.

Talk for Writing

Create a small house to protect a 'little pig'. Get the students (big bad wolves) to try to blow (huff and puff) each other's houses down.

Encourage them to include - digging tunnels, helping soil, finding food

Example: Dear diary, today I dug a long tunnel. I ate leaves in the soil. I helped the plants to grow.
