2) When the main character sacrifices himself to save the wold from the birds, it reminds me when in a basic story the main character gives himself up for the world.

Dictionary Definition: The throat, gullet, or jaws of a voracious bird.

Best Guess: Unavoidable, not being able to evade. Gives a sense of hopelessness how Ursula speaks of the protagonist's fate.
Dictionary Definition: Incapable of being avoided or evaded; bound to happen.

Best Guess: Slowly diminished or gone away. Having been there but vanished or fell/rotted away.
