I already had a little clip of something that I was doing outside which is 4 shots but it wasn’t finished, so I looked at a verse and looked over the lyrics and added some so it fit with the bars. I knew I wanted a reggae guitar part, a walking bass and drums just boots and cats and boots and cats.

The first song is about going out in a bad headspace then just getting drunk to feel a bit better but the night just going wrong. 
The second song is about seeing someone out with someone they lied about and instead of getting angry or anything you just leave and feel happy about leaving as you don’t want to be lied to.

The skill sets I’ve shown and grown from are knowing what parts are called to describe them to people where as before I wouldn’t know what a walking bass was. I also played around with the arrangement of the song as I had in 4 shots double verse chorus then a bridge then back into a verse, chorus then a guitar solo although I would like to have a trumpet solo, then a chorus. I did this for tension and release as it’s something they haven’t heard back into a melody they have. Although I didn’t play the instruments I described them to people then they have sent back what I had asked for.

I could also look into my diet and what foods I eat as I could be eating to late of night and this could cause acid reflux and harm my vocal chords. I’m also going to make myself a check list whenever I go to the studio so I have a clear plan along with anyone I bring into to the studio to record. 

Strengths 
I feel like my lyric writing and ideas are becoming stronger I just need to make sure I keep up writing. 
I feel like I have an idea of my sound and what kinda artist I want to be but this will grow and I’ll be come more aware the more songs I write of who I am.

My weakness 
Although this term I could easily describe what I wanted in 4 shots my theory is not great and is something I need to work on especially if I don’t play the instruments. I didn’t know how to get the surround sound where as now I do. I’m now being able to get a demo down where as before all my tracks had two much reverb and effects on. As I didn’t have a certain structure for recording and getting the best version out, as I was recording with reverb on the track instead of recording the track then adding the reverb and this made it sound a mess.

To then which I record the vocals and then describe what I want on the track for 4 shots I asked for a walking bass part bubble keys, boots and cats on the drums and then a rhythm guitar part. I then went to the studio with my friend to try and come up with ideas and make what in had in a full song. Where as got to go I wrote a while ago and had a track but wanted other versions of it I listened to ‘boys being boys by the oridinary boys’ which has the same bounce through the song which I wanted. The same again I used the method that I did while recording got to go by recording the vocals first then taking them to tom in my class who helped produced got to go for me.

When in the studio because I was paying for the time we used up all the time to my full advantage by getting the guitar and drums down straight away, then I have an sm 58 and a rode nt1a mic so I could record the vocals at home. We then later went in and recorded the bass lines was finding it hard to explain to the band what I wanted the track to sound like so made a little version so the band could hear what I was wanting. This worked well apart from the bass player kept playing the root notes instead of what I wanted, so I then asked my friend to record the bass line so I could sent him just the stem so it would be easy to hear what I want.

These songs are just staring ideas so that I can hear multiple versions of the songs I wrote, this will then help me decide what my sound is I’m going for and I will then be able to hear the weaker parts that in will need to work on and explore more, I wouldn’t say im amazing at recording yet as before this year I never had production lessons but it is 100% something I want to explore more and carry in working on. As this helps give me creative control still without a producer changing my sound or visuals for the song.

this then helped me know what to call things without being worried of looking stupid so there for in conclusion i'm going to continue doing this for the rest of my time at Waterbear and maybe outside in my career as it helps take some pressure off and can help people hear what i'm hearing. the actions i'm going to take are finding either loops of splice or youtube and keeping a folder so i can show any of my band mates.]]> 2022-04-13 12:20:45 UTC https://padlet.com/amywalker7541xx/uzfphgviuobtjveg/wish/2142303326 reflection amywalker7541xx https://padlet.com/amywalker7541xx/uzfphgviuobtjveg/wish/2143723570 although i did communicate to the band i believe to get my sound down exactly how i want it i could communicate a little more with the band, as i was worried my performance would not go well as i was missing the bass even though i send over a recorded version of the song and the parts were easy to here it wasn't coming together as luke kept playing the root notes. This made me feel a little deflated as i wasn't sure how i could fix this but i then got someone to record the bass line as a stem so i could send it to the new bass player and that had worked well. I'm happy i did this because moving forward i believe this is the best way to get the right version down and its easier for the house band to play stems than listen through and learn the whole song. the reason i picked these songs are because 4 shots i would like to release in the future so wanted to hear what it would sound like as a whole band thing and then got to go i wrote in lockdown but took it to a producer and started writing new bits for it but i wanted to try my original idea where it has a bounce and attitude in the chorus that gives you a feel that you don't care you have been messed around you just like dance off like nothings happened you could have reacted but didn't see the point. i had written all the lyrics and the melody for the lyrics and then i told people what i wanted like in 4 shots when i said about a walking bass i then got diffrerent versions of what i asked for then picked which one i wanted where as got to go was a little more of a collaberation i sand what i had and me and tom came up with ideas together he did most of the work on the track seen as i don't play an instrument well enough to record. ]]> 2022-04-14 10:38:23 UTC https://padlet.com/amywalker7541xx/uzfphgviuobtjveg/wish/2143723570
