In other words, the event was created to influence younger people to vote. It resulted in an increase of voters aged 18-24.

The first organization to use a toll-free number to register voters over the phone.
Rock the Vote then changed the game, once again 1999, by making politics accessible to all with the creation of an online voter registration tool.

Rock the Vote is the largest nonpartisan, non-profit organization in the United States driving young people to the polls. Fusing pop culture, politics, and technology, Rock the Vote works to mobilize the millennial voting bloc and the youth vote, protect voting rights and advocate for an electoral process and voting system that works for the 21st century electorate.

In 1996, Rock the Vote created the first telephone voter registration system, 1-800-REGISTER, followed by the first online voter-registration system, NetVote, later that year.

"We supported Rock the Vote," said Radiohead's Thom Yorke, "but – because of the way the whole political system works – it does seem rather odd to be choosing between one unworkable, outdated system and another. We need to go beyond that – because, at the moment, it's just Cowboys and Indians."

They need to create a culture of voting, a culture of defending the right to vote. That’s why they believe partnering with artists, musicians, actors, and technology companies is key to engaging with young people, driving a greater amount of them to the polls and using their inner voice to incite change.

They cannot afford to have young people sit out of the political process when so much is at stake for their future. For example, Miley Cyrus often advertised being against Trump, meaning her fans would follow.
