This was a battle fought in the Soviet Union during Operation Barbarossa. The Nazi's were defeated at Stalingrad which knocked out a large portion of Army Group B. This battle turned the tide in favor of the Soviet Union. July 17 1942- February 2, 1943.

The Invasion of Italy

The Invasion of Italy was the first allied foothold in Italy. It was conducted with troops who were in North Africa. It marked the start of the Italian campaign by the Allies. It ended with the capitulation of Army group C and an Allied victory. September 3, 1943-May 2, 1945.

Battle of Rome

This was a battle between the Axis and the Allies in Rome. Rome was bombed several times by the allies. The allies eventually captured Rome. June 4, 1944.

The Yalta Conference

The Yalta Conference was an important meeting between the three allied leaders, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. They were known as "The Big 3". This conference discussed what to do with Germany after the war. February 4th- February 11th 1945

D-Day (Operation Overlord)

D-Day or Operation Overlord refers to the Allied landings on the beaches of France. This was to liberate Europe, it created a two front war of which Germany could not handle. It was the start of the western front. June 6th, 1944

Liberation of Paris

This was a battle between the Allies and Axis which ended in the capitulation of the German soldiers stationed in Paris. It marked the end of 4 years of German control and the rise of the provisional government. August 19-August 25, 1944

Battle of the Bulge

The Battle of the Bulge was the last German offensive in the Western theatre. It was a last ditch effort to stall the allied advance in the west. It was fought in the Ardennes region. It was initially successful but eventually fizzled out. It resulted in an Allied victory and the Germans suffered heavy losses. December 16, 1944-January 25, 1945

The fall of Berlin and the Death of Hitler

Berlin was fiercely defended against the Soviets, but the Soviets had more soldiers and resources. On April 30th, 1945 Hitler would kill himself in his bunker, after realizing defeat was inevitable and not wishing to be captured. Berlin fell to the Soviets after fierce fighting lasting from April 20-May 2 1945. This marked the end of Nazi Germany, they would surrender days later on May 7th 1945.
