Assignment Directions: In this assignment, you will create a self-portrait that shows your unique features. You will also practice writing your first and last names below your artwork.

Here are the steps:

Listen to "I Like Myself" by Karen Beaumont through Padlet's YouTube link.

Gather your art supplies (paper, crayons, markers, etc.).
Look in a mirror and think about what makes you special.
Draw a picture of yourself, showing your unique features.
When you finish your portrait, write your first and last names below it. Remember to use capital letters for the first letter of each name.
Share your artwork with the class and display it in our classroom gallery.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to an exciting new year in our classroom! My name is Ms. Kristin Sheehan and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your child this year. This year, I aim to create a vibrant learning environment that fosters curiosity, kindness, and a sense of community among our little learners.

Our classroom will be a place where every child can feel safe and encouraged to explore new ideas and skills. We will engage in a variety of activities that incorporate early childhood literature, math, music, science, language, and more, all designed to promote comprehensive development and a love for learning.

Classroom Rules and Expectations:

1. We Explore Together - This encourages cooperative play and learning, which are essential for social and cognitive development.

2. We Listen to Each Other - This promotes respect and effective communication, foundational for a positive learning environment.

3. We Take Care of Our Classroom - This instills a sense of responsibility and respect for shared

spaces and materials.

4. We Are Kind and Helpful - This encourages empathy and positive interactions among children.

5. We Solve Problems Peacefully - This teaches conflict resolution skills and emotional regulation.

Consequences and Positive Reinforcement:

Our approach to discipline focuses on understanding and improvement. We start with gentle reminders and redirection, and if needed, practice the expected behavior. For ongoing challenges, we may involve you to strategize together on best supporting your child’s behavioral development.

Classroom Procedures:

• Homework: Most activities are completed in class, but any take-home tasks should be returned in the "Homework Box” or through Padlet.

• Assessments: We use observational notes and informal check-ins, as well as formal exams such as VKRP and VALLS to understand your child's progress.

• Feedback: Progress is shared during parent-teacher meetings and through weekly take-home

folders.
