Donovan Curtis is a regular kid, until one day he broke a poorly constructed statue and it ruined the gym while a basketball game was happening. He got sent to the principals office and the principal accidentally registered him for the “brainiac” school. He has to hide out at the school while coping with the challenges there. In the beginning of the story he is just a regular middle school kid and doesn’t really care that much about other people. When he goes to the brainiac school he finds out some of his friends are going to have to do summer school for growth, health, and development. He decides to convince his pregnant sister to help them out so they don’t have to go to summer school. He starts to become a caring and helpful person.

DISCLOSURE A LOT OF THIS INFORMATION YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ IS GOING TO SOUND CRAZY AND RIDICULOUS AND MIGHT NOT MAKE ANY SENSE.

My theme is Fear. I think fear is the best theme for this book because there are so many examples of it, one example is when they are driving through the “Taco Bear” and they open up there box of tacos a whole bunch of demon squid tacos jump out of the box. They are in fear and yelling and screaming. Another thing is when they drive back to there school all their friends and mom are hypnotized and under control. This is proves they are in fear because they might not see their loved ones again. One last thing is when they start to get sucked down into earth and the teeth monster try’s to attack them. I think they are in fear of dying. Hence why I think fear is one of the best themes.

I think Lonnie’s writing is important because a lot of things have happened to her in her life. For example, she lost her parents in a house fire, she was separated from her sister, and lives in a foster home. For these reasons, I think her writing is important because it is how she expresses herself. She needs this to get her feelings out.

I think a good theme for this book is perseverance can lead to good things. One reason I think this is because she has to go through a house fire and lose her parents and then she still goes to school and makes interactions with people is amazing. Another reason is she doesn't get to see her sister all that often and you can tell she really loves her sister. For all the reasons listed above she still has a good life and friends and seems to be pretty happy, I think Perseverance can lead to good things is a good theme.

A boy named Capricorn Anderson, Cap for short, lives in a hippie community with his grandmother. No one else lives there anymore. When his grandmother suffers a hip injury he has to go to a temporary family and adapt to the challenges that it brings. He starts a new school. After a few days the most popular kid in school named Zach Powers gets him to run for 8th grade president. He wins because everyone at the school knows 8th grade president is basically a joke. Zach’s plan starts off well, but Cap starts to become well known. He saves a teacher’s life by driving an out of control school bus to the hospital as the teacher has a heart attack. This makes him a school hero. Zach is now not the most popular in school. A big Halloween dance is coming up, and Cap has to plan it. Not knowing very much about money Cap spends way too much on things not for the Halloween dance but it comes from his heart. The Halloween dance is one of the most important events of the year. Can he do it and stay popular?
