Classroom activity: Students are involved in robotic programs or robotics competitions. Collaborating in teams supervised by educators and professional mentors, they will be asked to build robots with limited time and resources.
Soft skills acquired: (1) Students tackle real-world problems and scenarios as they create solutions that have the potential to add significant value in the world (2) students foster innovative thinking (3) students develop collaborative and team work skills.

Being able to work in group is, in my opinion a very important soft skill. Such a soft skills requires communication ability, adaptation, and other soft skills. In my classroom I encourage the creation of work/study groups; I think, in the future, I will use padlet or other similar tools to support peer-to peer learning, and sharing ideas.

As a language teacher I must insist on skills like collaboration skills, presentation skills, time management. I often have projects with kids which helps develop them. I teach the necessary language of negotiating, agreement, disagreement, suggesting etc and students practice during the project work. Sometimes students have to present their idea for the project and give arguments that their idea is better than others to convince the rest of the class to accept their subject. 2. Communication skills, you will have to communicate your methods, research, findings or ideas not only to people outside your area but within it. There are plenty of examples of non effective communication within peers.
3. Learn from failure, almost every STEM area will provide you with more failures than successes. You have to be able to overcome them and look for another solution, experiment, ideas.

I think that one effective way to tackle them in the classroom is the project-based learning. The students have to think creatively, prove and if they fail they have to think again, and then communicate their findings.

It is difficult to choose only
three soft skills but I believe that communication skills, problem-solving skills and creativity are important to address from a primary-school level. In order to help students develop their problem skills I could introduce 'problems' in all areas of the curriculum (maths, story-telling, grammar lessons, science, arts etc...) and help students focus more on the process of how to solve the problem rather than the solution itself. In this way students can apply the skill in different situations. In order to help develop their communication skills I would prepare more group-work activities, presentations and 'show and tell' sessions. Creativity skills could be enhanced by allowing students to come up with solutions, think outside the box, ask more open-ended questions, ask the 'why' question and allow them to learn from their mistakes. Allowing students to learn by doing will enhance both their exploration and creativity skills.

For me, ones of the most important soft skills are: problem-solving, argumentation and flexibility. I consider problem-solving is crucial to everything, we are constantly solving problems. Argumentation is basic to convince with reasons, to support a claim. And flexibility is important to adapt quickly to new demands and new situations, to be open to new paths.

I would address them in the classroom by cooperative groups where pupils are the principal actors.

A soft skill , according to Grabrielle Ferguson, is any skill which has to do with personal interaction with another human being. I agree with the most important ones that she mentioned: communication skills, time management and negotiation skills.

I would propose a project related with my subject, in which each member of the team could develop every role: presentation, leader, supply responsible, salesman…. This way they would also practice their capability to adapt to new environments and improve their problems-solving skills.

1)Problem solving: Problem-solving is, and should be, a very real part of the curriculum. It presupposes that students can take on some of the responsibility for their own learning and can take personal action to solve problems, resolve conflicts, discuss alternatives, and focus on thinking as a vital element of the curriculum. 2) Creativity: One of the things that I hear teachers worrying about is the disappearance of creativity in the curriculum. The beauty of creativity is slowly being phased out and replaced by worksheets. Standardized tests are a reality where I teach, but I still find creativity time for my students. I feel that it helps strengthen their other skills and is needed to develop well-rounded people. Group work is extremely important. Being able to fulfil a role within a group and add to the activity/solution is essential.
There are plenty of projects and topics that can be done in pairs and groups. Getting students to defend and justify opinions/positions is key to the effectiveness of this learning.
Problem solving is also very important. Students must be able to approach a problem in a structured way that can be applied to all future problems. So many teams we fall into the trap of teaching a students to solve a specific problem and then when they come a across something slightly different...they are then lost.
Communication skills is linked to group work above. Students must be able to communicate their ideas well. This can be done in so many forms, and it is important, that we as teachers engage in that and encourage communication in various forms from our students.

Understanding by soft skills those skills that are difficult to measure, in my opinion the 3 most important and that are not part of the STEM field are verbal communication, body language and the ability to be motivating. In my classroom I try to introduce these disciplines, which are so difficult to measure but at the same time so necessary to find success in the world of work. I teach my students body language techniques, correct postures, teach them to communicate in a way that "manipulates" the listener's subconscious, so that it leads them to achieve their goals and success. One of the most difficult skills to acquire is to be motivating with others, the ability to encourage others to do a good job. Which I think is very important if you want to be bosses tomorrow and have a competitive team at your command.

In my opinion, all of the skills are indispensable and for this reason it doesn't make any sense for me to order the skills at a superiority category, the most or the least. To give an answer about the most frequently used skills rather than the most important ones, I can state communication, adaptation to the change and collaborative working. For example, my students are introduced with a new Web 2.0 tool every two weeks and they are asked to create their own products using these Web 2.0 tools. They are more inclined to employ these tools at other subjects as well. Their own products are also shared on Padlet by themselves and their peers give feedback to their products and they are prone to modify their products in the light of their friends' feedback.

I think the most important skills would be problem solving, argumentation and flexibility.

Problem solving because it is at the heart of STEM subjects. I would like to note that by problem solving, it should not be meant to perform repetitive tasks or exercises about a topic, which is a common mistake committed in teaching, but to perform some task that it is not immediate to work out a solution, instead, it takes time to solve it. I think it is very important that students get used to being aware that not everything has an immediate solution, and that they do not have to give up too soon when difficulties in solving a problem appear. This is what problem solving means. Therefore, I would address this skill in the classroom by introducing some problems of this kind in my students’ assignments.

Concerning argumentation, I think it is very important because having what you think is a great solution does not mean that it sells itself, you need to persuade others that it is a really good solution. This kind of skills are the ones that I miss currently in education curriculums. I try to talk about the importance of this skill in the classroom, but to be properly addressed, it should be included in the curriculum.

Finally, flexibility is also important because the specific real life problems addressed by STEM professionals are changing more quickly every time so they need to adapt from one challenge to another. I think that this skill can be trained by means of the real problem solving mentioned before.

Computational thinking helps to develop logical skills and ability to solve problems creatively and efficiently. The simplest and most fun way to develop computational thinking is through coding for this reason I want use Scratch with my little students.

I believe that the three can be approached with the proposal of activities like those that I name:

Work through a project with Scratch that develops one of the topics treated in the classroom. Then they will have to explain to the rest of the companions how they have done it and what knowledge they have used.
Working math through a trivia game called Trivial Pursuit. Some time ago I made one and my students do more math by playing a day than in a traditional classroom week. They have to address the challenge among all, discuss their resolve and agree on the response. All a waste of soft skills.
Expose to the class a somewhat complex problem, which has several stages. With Powerpoint presentation or simply with the wax and chalk

The way to address the first two is by proposing a problem (a real life problema would be the best) where they have to discover a solution, not just copying it from some place.

Presentation skills need to be practised and acquired. Students are used to write a lot of text and read it and that is certainly not a good presentation. Making them present things a providing feedback for the presentation is very important.

STEM world is so evolving that our main challenge as teachers is to teach to learn: students must be able to look for information, curate it and generate new data. We can guide them when we propose them to do a report about STEM topics.

I think that in an ideal world I would want to incorporate as many soft skills as possible into my classes. I suppose my top 3 would have to be collaboration, problem solving and flexibility. I chose these because if planned correctly they can also incorporate other soft skills, e.g.collaboration involves communicating. Group work can encompass a number of soft skills including time management, collaboration, presentation, communication, problem solving, creativity, flexibility etc. However, we should be careful because many young people hate working in groups. Sometimes this is for social reasons, especially if group members are assigned not chosen, an imbalance in the amount of work carried out by individual members, or because they dislike their role within the group. I know even now, I dislike group work within learning setting so much that my heart sinks with dread, although I have worked within groups, both large and small all my working life. Successfully planning group work to give maximum reward with every member gaining and having a happy experience is hard.

The first soft skill is creativity and innovation we need to teach to think outside of the box. You could address in your class doing opening questions. I mean, looking at a problem from a different perspective.

Secondly, communication is a very important skill not only for the transmission of knowledge but also for the adaptation to each one of the situations. In class you could do different exhibitions

Finally working in a team is quite significant because students can share their abilities and knowledge with their partners and learn about the mistakes. I finde it difficult to finde time to both. I learn my students hard skills, and it takes all the time. I am looking for some advice on this. My studens are so schooled to only focus on learning for the test, that I find it hard to make changes, but I will try and try.
Communication skills have high priority for me, and time on tasks I am working on now, and self assessment I am trying to teach them through peer-feedback where I set visible goals for each lesson.

I really try to work all those skills.
Some of them:
- Communication and argumentation: maintaining an environment that encourages communication in the classroom, promoting expositions, questions, answers, arguments.
- Agile working: proposing tasks in the classroom in which I do not have the solution and do not have a single solution. The student has to find, investigate, solve the problem.
- Adaptation to change: as in the previous case, with "open" problems, which initially seem very complex because the student has not previously solved similar issues.

communication: in today's world where everything and everyone is connected all the time, one cannot lag back on communication skill. This would place the individual at a great disadvantage.

- creativity -> to be able to whatch things from a different perspective to find the best solution;
- flexibility -> to be adaptable and open to work in every situation (alone or in group, self-regulating the time you can dispose) and to be able to communicate quickly and in the right way.

I think the three most important soft skills in STEM would be collaborative work, communication skills and problem solving. One way to address all these soft skills in the classroom is through the project approach in which the students have to design, plan, build and evaluate a prototype or a system that solves the problem I gave them at the beginning. These are the most important soft skills from my point of view.
In my classroom we work with a lot of projects which have to be developed in small groups. After concluding the project the students must prepare a presentation (by using Powerpoint usually) and we discuss about their work. This includes reciving proposals from their classmates in order to make it better. I try to include hypothetical elements to create problems and ask them (first the group in charge and then the whole class) to find solutions. It is very funny and interesting to see how amazing their little brains can be!!
In fact sometimes my presence could be dispensable since the are so critical with themselves and the others so the discuss freely with no guidance, only following their own established rules after practising.

I have some problems in the classroom to develop these skills for different reasons: the group is more than 20 students, the contents are very wide, they have a lot of classes in a day and they don't study at home as much as they need. Collaborative working: I prefer to work with small groups and with an
odd number of members so, in case of a vote to decide something, there is always a tie-breaker. Although the project is individual, they are organised in teams and should help their classmates if they need it.
Adapting to change, problem-solving: must register in a document the problems that arise and how they have solved them, so they have that information throughout the project.
I let them to make mistakes (as long as it is not dangerous for their safety) so they are themselves who think how to solve the situation.
Communication skills: they make presentations about their own work and lessons to the rest of class.
On the other hand, when they finish a project, in order to review their own work, they show it to the others classmates and explain how it works, how they have done it, the problems that have found during the process, how they have been solved them and if any partner has helped them (so they officially thank each other for their help).

Creativity: It is not easy to teach it, but it is easy to encourage it, for example in exams I give extra points for the most creative well argumentes answer.
Argumentation: I always ask them their opinion on how the human body work under different circumstances, and they love it.
Collaborative problem solving: I give them the opportunity to find solutions individually and in groups, mostly they choose groups, and to avoid excesive noise, I allow them to work with their favourite music, they want to hear it so they lower their voices.

My election is not base in how important I consider they are but in my possibilities to integrated then in my real work (in my country students have to pas exams absolutely focused in hard skills). Problem solving and creativity: In my subject (Physics and Chemistry) there are a lot of possibilities to convert the solutions of “academical problems” in a creative task: doing qualitative analysis of the problem before to start the mathematical solution, trying to connect the problem with the reality and analyse all the factors that in the academical problem we do not take into account, use simulation of the problem to analyse how different factors affect to the solution. Argumentation: I try that my students construct the scientific theories by themselves or at least they understand how the theories have been constructed. The key question is that the only way to learn argumentation is writing argumentation and discussing with peers what you are written. Eventually students understand that improving this skills in worthy to obtain better marks even in exams focused in hard skills. Obviously it would be better if exams to enter university were coherent with skills demanded by fourth industrial revolution.

In my opinión, the most important soft skills within STEM fields are communication, creativity and collaborative working. First of all because they are all focused on human relations, which are in my view the most important and significant experience anyone can have. Then, because I strongly believe that collaboration is the basis of success. I think these skills are also quite easy to approach in the classroom in activities such as group activities or presentations in the classroom, where eveyone has a chance to make a personal contribution, but where the final result relies on the work of the whole team.

Creativity- Given the direction automation is going, creativity is going to be one of the main unique things skilled STEM workers will have to offer. Designing tasks that allow creative solutions not simple tests or regurgitation of knowledge.
Intellectual Curiosity- This is the best motivator. Presenting opportunities to investigate answers rather than just feeding them to students.
Flexibility- Particularly since students may be working in jobs or fields that don't exist yet so can't be completely prepared for. By designing tasks that allow students to make their own decisions about the best way to do things.

While introducing a new subject, I give assignments to students about initiating a group on whatsapp for communication. I always try to encourage to use other means such as skype, twinspace(while implementing an etwinning project), facetime for making them familiarize with IT devices. Intellectual curiosity, flexibility and self-regulation are very important (if I have to choose three). In my lessons I try to give examples of exciting inventions, natural processes etc to make students more curious about everything around them. I try to organise study visits, invite guests etc to rise interest. I think it's pretty challenging to develop self regulation in students. There are methods but it takes lots of time.
