         <description><![CDATA[<p>Legalistic thinkers maintained that human nature is essentially "evil" and that people behave in an orderly fashion only if compelled by strict laws and harsh punishments. </p><br><p>Wealth &amp; power and the govt.’s demand for obedience were justified by this authoritarian political philosophy. </p><br><p>Legalists believe that every aspect of human society should be controlled and personal freedoms should be sacrificed for the good of the state. </p><p>General concepts legalists enforced:</p><p>fa- a law or principle. All people are equal before the law. Those who successfully obey the law will be rewarded and those who don't will be severly punished. </p><p>shu- method, tactic, or techniques. Tactics that the ruler uses to enforce the law as well as stay in control of the state. </p><p>shi-legitimacy, power, or position.  The law rules, not the ruler himself. </p>]]></description>
