Apollo Brown has redefined modern boom bap production (MellowGroupMusic, 2024). His style of modernized boom bap, using heavy and gritty drum breaks or creating his own drum loops using punchy kicks and snares with the selection of beautiful melodic samples ranging from Soul, Blues to Motown has influenced me greatly. Brown prefers to use Cool Edit 2000 for his production. Not only does that influence me, yet it is greatly inspiring to know old programs hold up with todays movement of music. Along with his idea of only working in the same room with the artist rather than workig and having to communicate over online. (MellowGroupMusic, 2024).

Madlib

Madlib has a unique approach to hip-hop production. Considered ahead of his time, his instrumentals are labelled experimental with stepping out of the standard hip-hop formula (Naste Conde, 2016). His sample selection ranges from psychedelic to soul and jazz music. Madlib is one of the most influential artists for his unmatched skill of chopping samples. Some don't require drums behind the beautiful, soulful melodies that he alters and chops. His production has clarity and influences me as a producer to bring more life into my beat making.

RZA

Premier use to chop and work with the sample first, then add drums, but now it's reversed. The same process that influenced Apollo Brown by adding drums then chopping the sample over the beat. Both styles are similar with their approach of hard-hitting drums with chopped up samples.

Dr. Dre has a signature west coast, G-funk sound. It has influenced a whole sub-genre in hip-hop and has been the structure for most west coasts artists and producers (BigBoyTV, 2015). His beats were influential to the entirety of the west coast which became huge. With Madlib being from the west, it was highly influential that one of the best to ever do it was in the same geographic. Production wise you can hear the style of Dr. Dre's beat making altered in a modern form by Madlib. With life and a summer feel to his beats.

If it wasn't for Benson, we wouldn't have the Jazz or hip-hop we do today (Rick Beato, 2024).
