As the introduction to the novel, it sets the tone and emphasizes importance of machinery in this world. It's so prevalent that it's used metaphorically to describe something as technology-free as the sky. Metaphorically, it also represents the division between the "fleshy" earth and the cyberpsace matrix. The sky / cyberspace may be a representation of pure data, and it raises questions of whether memories can be recorded as data, and if humanity would be better if it can constantly relive these memories?

This quote is introduced when Case misunderstands Molly and her purpose in the first chapter. This exemplifies that although case lives in a galaxy vastly past his comprehension, he still attempts to manipulate the world around him to fit in with his experience and understanding.

In the dystopia of Neuromancer, the capitalist mode of production forces people to commodify their labour and relations into things which can be assigned a price and traded as commodities. This is exemplified when the AI Wintermute assembles a group of role specific character on a missions.

This quote highlights the power hierarchy / discrepancy between the working and the ruling class. With power concentrated in the hands of the corporations, any pretence of democracy is swept away.

This is another example of commodification - both by the U.S government and Wintermute. Corto has been built up twice to serve specific purposes, as tool for those with power, and in both cases meant to be discarded once he has fufilled his purpose. This contrasts with that of Case and Molly's; they have been interpellated to internalise the ideology, and transform themselves into to desired roles, Corto has been denied any semblance of free will, and is ruthlessly manipulated by others.
